Is it possible to add a spectator mode, to the join game screen. I mean it would keep people satisfied while they wait on Dedicated servers.
I'm assuming one problem would be that it would cause massive amounts of lag when someone joins, b/c of how much has to be sent to the user joining. But can you please tell me why you can't or won't add a spectator mode?

Suma said something about this its the same as joining in progress, and would require an entirely new product to accomplish this.
To spectate? If you can Spectate when you die, then You could pretty much spectate when u join http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
unholy chosen one

actually it shouldnt take a new product to accomplish that.
they essentially could make you a camera veiw but it would probably take enough code to have made a new game. its just another case of hindsight being 20/20. you cant expect them to have thought of everything.

You could create civilians, then use "this setDamage 1" in the INIT box, they'd then die as soon as they joined the game and become seaguls!
Of course, this only works if the game has two sides...

yes, BIS has stated that becasue of the way the game was designed, it wont beable to support joining a game in any way, be it spectator or to actuall play
the Game state as it is just cannot start giving player movement info to new commers with out causing the game to Lag terribly or Crash for that matter
this has been debated over and over
and YES we all wish BIS had for saw this, but alas we're SoL
argh http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Oh well I guess I can play quake3 and spectate while I wait for OFP game to finnish
