It doesn't affect the gameplay -- which is terrific -- but the system by which OFP tallies mission scores is mysterious to me.

I scored 3800 in the Pathfinder campaign mission yet got three red x's. I achieved all of my mission goals and even though most of my team died, they were not directly under the player's control, so why would I be penalised for their demise?

In the subsequent tank mission, I took out a T-80 plus crew and a soldier: 3000 and one red x. All mission goals accomplished, no fatalities.

Again, when escorting the Spec. Ops guy to Everon: Got him there, met the resistance leader, got the map, returned with it, pat on the back from the Colonel, a promotion and... 3 red x's with a score of (i think) 200!

This is not a complaint. Just a request for enlightenment. Thanks!

theres really too many veriables, this might in it self cause the bad scorring

but mainly it has to do with Mission Scripting and Goals and a few other things

pretty tough stuff, if you do a search for score(s) you should find what you seek

It's possible to get lots of kills and three red XXXs if you kill a friendly (but your score is normally severely affected). The 'take James to Everon' mission is noted for giving crap scores if you follow orders and get back to the boat without hanging around to shoot something.

It varies on whether you kill yourself, etc. If you fail the mission, but kill a few commies, and attempt it as best you can... you still get a good score.

What seems stupid to me, is that, for a game thats based on teamwork... in the campaign, you have to do it gung-ho rambo style and kill half the commies yourself, or within a few missions you fail. Whats up with that?
