Is it possible do define a transparent color in a squad logo ?
And what x*y size is possible for squad logos ?
At the moment i use a 256x256 logo and it works, but is it possible to use larger logos and logos with unequal x and y values ?
I never find a site with usefull information about squad logos, so i ask here. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

No, transparency is not possible at this time. They have to be square, non-progressive bitmaps up to 256x256 in size.

transparancy IS possible.
just download TexView (official texture tool from BIS)
then:
-create a squad logo
-create an alpha channel
-save in .tga format
-open with texview and save
-remember to update the filename in your squad.xml (and ofcourse upload the file)

It works great, the logo is now in paa format and with
transparency it looks like it was all the time on the
vehicle, no more squad edges in the logo. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Aldega:
What do you mean by "alpha channel"? I can't seem to find one in my graphics software to "open". Please give me some help on this.
Thanks,
Davie http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

13th MEU logo is circular with transparency. I made it http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

But how do you make it? What graphics program(s) will allow this "alpha channel" thing? What is an alpha channel? And how do I open one?
Thanks,
Davie

I used Photoshop and went to the "channels" dialog. There I did an "add channel" and it become the alpha channel. I then painted in a black and white pic of the outline. I'll post some pics of what it looks like doing it if you want. I then ran that through the texture tool and named it a .paa I think.

Again, would you mind posting some of the screen shots we discussed above. Also, where is a good place to purchace Adobe Photoshop? Every where I look, it is over 700 US dollars!!! (too much for my blood).
Thanks again,

I believe you can do it with Paint Shop Pro. It might be a better optino for you as it is consumer priced.

ALDEGA

Yes, it works perfectly with Paint Shop Pro (which is shareware). I made my transparent logo with it.

MaF

just use the magic stick to select the thing u want to be not transparent than goto selections than save as alpha channel.

Than do the same thing as above in texview.

Result is something like this :

This would give opaque transparency, not alpha transparency, which may be needed.

Aldegra:
You say Paint Shop Pro is shareware, do you have a link that I may use to obtain it? If MaF's methods creates "opaque transparencies", then what methodologies should be used in Paint Shop Pro to obtain an alpha transparency?
Thanks in advance, you guys have been great and very helpful!!

Ok... I figured how to make one using Paint Shop Pro 7 by piecing everyones suggestions together.

1. Open your saved logo (*.jpg). Resize the image to be </= 256X256 pixels (image - resize)
2. Select the "magic wand" on the left side toolbar
3. Click on logo (should see an outline of logo and outer border).
4. Selection - invert (make sure "tool option" is set to "match mode" RGB value, "tolerance" 10, and "feather" 0)
5. Edit - copy
6. File - new... Make sure the new image deminsions are 256X256, "Resolution" 72, "Background color" Black, and "Image Type" 24bit.
7. Edit - paste - as new layer
8. Select "magic wand" again, click on the newly created image and you should see and outline of the logo and outer border, as before.
9. Selection - Invert (now you should see just the outline of the logo).
10 Selection - Save to alpha channel (you should see a preview of the alpha channel; where the logo should be is all white surrounded by black)
11. Save this as a *.tga file (Truevision Targa). You will get a message stating something about being able to save only one alpha channel (that's all you want).
12. Open TextView (you get from download section of www.flashpoint1985.com) and drop image in to this application and save it as a *.paa file

YOU ARE DONE AND HAVE A TRANSPARENT LOGO!!!!
Thanks to everyone for their help!
