He can shot you even if you don't see him. He shot you before, you can even detect him. You have to be smarter then him. I have no problems with v1.30 A.I. This A.I is the best. V1.20 A.I was stupid, OK. What is wrong with you? I can't uderstand. I can play the game normally with superb A.I

yeah i know its super smart but its got some probs
like i was prone under a bush in the middle of a forest i fire 1 m16 round and hit a enemy soldier in the back wounding him, he turns around and fires a 3rnd burst and all 3 bullets hit me in the head. he is wounded, at least 300m away, using a ak-47, spotted me in my hiding spot after only firing 1 round(i know he didnt see me fire either he had his back turned) standing up, firing burst mode, and putting all 3 rnds in my head

also ive seen em shoot thru buildings and run thru walls
and run into rocks and cant figure out how to go around em and some other stuff

OFP is not realistic, The only thing B.I.S got somewhat correct was Infantry Warfare.

Everything else is arcade like, the only Reason OFP is so popular is because it looks good and it's deverse, You can fly, tank around and be a soldier in one.

Realism is not the selling point.

Nov 27 2001, 06:03
It was for me, and personally I think it's a very realistic game...

Infantry warfare is just as unrealistic as other parts of the game...

hollywood
Nov 27 2001, 08:54
...but at the end of the day, if realism's the only concern you can just join the army.

It's a game...and as a game it ROCKS!!! (Said in ultimate kerrang echo voice).

I really really disagree..... How many people have the skill to fly a Attack Helicopter?

Not a #### of alot. And in Operation Flashpoint it's too d*amn easy.

I do say that the Soldier combat is not 100%
but it's more realistic than everything else.

Helicopters are like this quote
"Trying to balance a que on a 8 ball"
It's hard, they are sensative to input and don't just hang in the air with your hands off the controls like they do in Operation Flashpoint.

If i had the tools i would be moding realistic flight models.

it´s a game and is supposed to be funny and amusing to play. and sometimes realism is not the funniest way to go. it´s a fine balance between fun and realism (war is not funny), and i think BIS did it well.
the game is NOT supposed to ease some of you guys weapon-addictions.
hollywood, you said it: if you want more realism, join the army.
the ai might be strong, but as everybody knows, they are working on it.

Far to unrealistic!!! I mean, I burried my head in the ground so I couldnt see my enemy and still he saw and shoot me! Man, I never even caught a glimpse of him. Thats unfair. Since I didnt saw him he shouldnt have seen me.

OFP was not made as a comedy game.

Lessure Suit Larry is for that http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Unl33t: well, i´m glad you put your little Smiley at the end of that sentence. now i´m certain that we all agree on 'funny' isn´t always 'laughing-funny'.
'funny' is the thing thats makes you sit down and take one more round of OFP.........but now i´m getting way off topic http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

On the AI side of things, it pissed me off to to start with (I'm talking 1.2+ here), but as time's gone on I've just changed the way I play to suit...i.e. rather than sitting in a bush and being able to take out a whole squad while they run about like headless chickens, I now spend a lot more time shooting and moving...much more fun.

As for those that want ultimate realism...maybe I'm the exception here but I don't want to have to undergo years of training before being able to play a game.

Plus there are a number of conflicting factors here e.g. model everything 100%...need a ninja-bast PC to play...

take helicopters...model it to be as real as you can get it and your gonna need 2 sticks and some pedals just to even get close to being able to fly the bloody thing...perhaps there should be realistic failures too...pull off a super slick performance...get picked up by a chinook...plough into a hillside killing all onboard...game over...no restarts.

I guess the point I'm trying to make (in an extremely long-winded way) is that, by definition, a game is not real and so a balance has to be struck...there will always be those that want more realism and those that want more run n gun.

If at the end of the day you want to experience a war (though god knows why anyone would)...switch off the PC and get down to the local recruitment office.

Alternatively (if you just want a taster of violence)...pop down the pub...find the hardest looking bloke and gob in his pint.

Lets start it from simple. How many of you people, out of those _who havent done military service_ could plan and execute platoons attack? How many could do squads attack? Even cooperation with combat pair or let alone pass the test of soldiers inviditual skills?

Just as many people would have skill to do those tasks as there are people who could fly helo without training. Zero.

I'm not asking OFP to be ultra realistic. I would be happy if it would be even somewhat realistic in a way that everyone could still play it - even without military training.

I like it for it's simplicity.

Seeing as it's the first game of its kind, it's not suprising that its not as good as a tank sim, a heli sim, or a plane sim. The engine just wouldnt handle all that.
Personally I think having all those keys to press would suck, being able to do so much, with so many keys to remember? Forget that. ####, I play GR for an hour and I forget half the OFP keys.
