I just built this AWESOME PC...

It's a AMD 1600+ XP processor with 512 DDR RAM, a Gforce3 Chameleon video card, SB Audigy soundcard, 16x DVD and ,you guessed it, Windows XP operating system.

Now with that said, you would think this PC is good to go.  Well, it is! It's a great PC. It does everything I need it to do and it's fast! One exception, I cannot get OFP to load on it. I receive an error when installing it.

ERROR: "File Copy Error (CRC does not match)

What does that mean?  Before my last reinstall of XP, this is about my third, I got it to load just fine but when I started to play the game it would either kick me back out to the desktop or reboot my PC entirely.

Guy.. We all know how OFP is a great, awesome game and how we couldn't live without it..
Help me!!! I'm having withdrawls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE!@<hidden>@<hidden>@<hidden>!@<hidden>#!@<hidden>#!@<hidden>#! I'm going MAD!!!! When is Windows XP Second Edition availible.

Get the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers for XP:

<a href="http://www.viahardware.com/download/index.shtm#4in1

There" target="_blank">http://www.viahardware.com/download/index.shtm#4in1

There</a> are well-known data corruption problems with the VIA 686B Southbridge for AMD processors (it really should be called the 666B  ).

Thanks for your input, But...

Doesn't it matter that my Motherboards chip set is a sis736?

Thanks,

Yes it does.

I assumed that you had a motherboard with a VIA chipset, since the vast majority of AMD systems use them.

Never mind...

Since you are getting CRC errors, my first guess would be DVD drive. Some copy protection schemes have problems with DVD and CDRW drives. If you have old CD ROM drive throw it in to see if it fixes the problem. Other than that the only thing I can think of maybe drivers. Make sure you have the latest drivers for sound, video and etc... The rebooting problem sounds just like what I was getting when I tried some beta NVidia drivers. Splash screen would appear and PC would reboot. Although I can't see how it would generate CRC errors.

Windows XP is conspiracy.

My theory - It was designed in conjunction with PC manufacturers, and game designers. So it would suck resources and force us to buy new computers, to tackle the slowing trend of buying PCs. Also games, that could be made to run fine on existing computers, are made to run on XP only, and high spec computers.
Then they'll make a patch for XP, force it onto our computers, which will stop the ability to play games - Forcing us to buy the Xbox. (seeing as how nintendo sucks) Sony is the only competition.

Oh, and I was just watching the X-files, it might have something to do with it.

It may be the DVD drive, but it isn't caused by the copy-protection. The two SafeDisc V2 files (00000001.TMP and 00000002.TMP) that are impossible to read reliably aren't copied as part of the installation process.

Any CRC errors that are produced hint at real data corruption problems caused by the hardware or system configuration.

I got it... I have an Elitegroup ECS motherboard, k7s5a, with 1600+ XP processor. Chip set = sis735.

I changed the CMOS from 133/133, for a front side bus, to 100/100 and it worked. I don't know why but wtf, I need something to work.

Don't by cheap, noname brand MB's. I now feel that I'm not taking full advantage of my processor.

Now I just have to wait for a flash upgrade and XPse.

Thanks for all your help everyone... See you on the island.

You do know that you've now slowed your PC down quite a fair bit, don't you....?

This does not look good at all. Because the clock multiplier is locked at 10.5, your 1.4Ghz CPU is running at 1.05Ghz - this, to me, is completely unacceptable.

One of my workmates had a similar problem to this - are you using no-name RAM? If so, bite bullet and head over to www.crucial.com and buy a decent brand. If it isn't that, it could be your Mobo/RAM overheating - do you have a good airflow through your system (I have a 92mm blower and 80mm extractor + PSU).

If none of these solve your problems then it must be your mobo - buy a different one.

While I must agree, in my experience SiS mobos haven't been the most refined, I'm not sure that they would still be in business after all this time if they were THAT bad... Also, ECS is (as far as I can tell) a budget manufacturer - IMO, they are the top bugdet manufacturer, but budget non-the-less. Personally, I catagorise mobo manufacturers like this:

Top end:

Abit, Asus

Mid-range

MSI, Gigabyte, Epox

Budget

ECS, Aopen, Chaintech, FIC.

I could (and probably am wrong) but that's my opinion from my experience.

haha, didn't know AMD was locking their CPUs again....

oh well, looks like you've slowed it down a #### of a lot now http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

my OLD SKOOL TBird 1.4 on the other hand is running OFP happily

hahaha and it came unlocked from the shop

get that pencil out

edit - hahaha, you can't even do that

man

Heck, VIA and Creative Labs are still in business, and both of them have a huge number of buggy and poorly supported products out there. Strangely enough, they both own their respective markets.

Weird...
