Well considering Red Hammer is made by Codemasters, this is likley to be a mistake on their part. I wouldn't worry about it (I probably wouldn't have noticed in the first place!)

With regard to the rank, it looks like just a bug, as I am now back to a lt following Under Orders.

Still wondering about the pearls.

Are you confirming that one or both of those missions does give pearls/stars?

Uggh, what do the little stars, circles, etc, mean?  I've seen them a lot on missions, but I've never really paid attention to them.

They indicate how well you've done in a mission. If you do a mission well on Cadet mode, you can get 1 to 5 pearls.
If you do a mission well in Veteran mode, you can get 1 to 5 gold stars.
If you do piss poor in a mission on either Cadet or Veteran mode, you can get 1 to.... a helluva lot of red Xs.
