Bojler sent me a link on the interview with Marek Spanel at the Czech game server doupe.cz. Of course, it is about OFP2. And M. Spanel says there a bit sad fact which we could wait: OFP2 WON'T BE RELEASED IN 2004 at 100%. We must accept it is better to release better game later than a thing full of bugs at the time. But keep up good mood. We was waiting on OFP for a long time, too. And that waiting has a worth...otherwise we wouldn't have been here today...

The most of work is just behind us, however we have been working on the game for the whole year. Today, we know for sure the game won't be released next year because there are tons of work and our plans are very ambicious.

Well I guess its gonna be really really good.

Like I said in the other thread (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=34;t=33666) about this... we'll probably still be playing OFP:R in late 2004 / early 2005 anyway.

I don't mind waiting for longer.. But I would really like a patch that included the "join in progress" for our current game. The xbox will be getting this awesome feature.. it would be a nice "hold over" for Resistance because of the delay..
If fact I would even pay for another expansion pack if the "JIP" was included in the release.

Most likely that's what the developers are asking themselves. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

LMAO, I like it how people on the forum try to figure out all the next steps of BIS, but sometimes I think there are no definite plans and things just roll into place.

Well It has some good sides:
-More time to get a new PC
-Lot of lesser bugs (OFP V1.00 was bug paradise http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif )
-More Gameplay 'features'
-.- And more missions ? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Actually it's not as bad news as it seems to be.
There are plenty of unfinished projects for OFP:R and plenty of things that haven't been done yet and are possible to do using OFP's engine.

I think OFP2 release will cause lack of interest in the addons prepared for original OFP (and even if it will still be possible to use original OFP addons in OFP2 - OFP2's engine improvements and new addons prepared specifically for this engine will be much more attractive to players than 'old' ones).

SpecOp9
Sep 8 2003, 17:00
Yea it's not bad news to me either. By the end of 2004 I am guessing most mods will be calling it quits with the Original Flashpoint and move onto OFP2. Meaning most mods will be able to get everything they want done b4 the ofp2 release in 2005. Namely the GTA mod.

Quote[/b] ]Operation Flashpoint 2 Delayed

Bohemia's eagerly awaited sequel may not see the light of day until 2005...

In a shocking revelation that has sent us all babbling like little babies, it has emerged that Bohemia Interactive eagerly awaited ‘Operation Flashpoint 2’ won’t surface until 2005 at the earliest.

The reason behind the delay is believed to be because Bohemia is currently hard at work developing ‘Operation Flashpoint’ for the Xbox and including Xbox Live! functions, which should go some way to making the delay a little easier to swallow.

Hopefully the delay will also allow Bohemia to develop a true sequel that pays utmost respect to the groundbreaking original, without worrying too much about time constraints.

I wish they would prioritise the PC version, surely the market potential for the PC title is much higher than the XBOX, and nothing motivates games publishers more than extra cash in the bank!!

Having said that, using XBOX users to bug test OFP2 so we get a perfect game is a very clever idea!! http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif

Phleep
Sep 10 2003, 14:36
Given that the XBox is very similar to a PC, they are optimising the code to work well on a 700MHz processor which should give them sufficient experience to cram all the features of the sequel into a mid range PC without sacrificing too much performance.

It's important to note that BIS doesnt use others engines, they write their own stuff from ground up. Developing games like that takes time, it should take time. If they didn't take their time then people would start bitching at once about "old engine", "bugs" etc.

I personally hope BIS does this project thouroughly rather than sloppily(no risc there) so we can all enjoy a great sim in 2005 (or whenever). I hope they invest more time into team AI, realistic platoon maneuvers etc so it becomes the de facto standard for realistic combat sims.

Plus; With games like Söldner and other neighbouring sims BIS gets the opportunity to see what works and what doesnt work in other games.

I know that everybody will hate me after this post but....
I don't understand the reason of this shift in time.....
They clearly said that they'll use the SAME engine of the first ofp; all this time for some addons on an existing engine?
And again, for me one of the most exiting things of ofp was fighting in a conteporary scenario with (almost) actual weapons an vehicles.
Sure Biz know their work, but I'd really have preferred a (fantasy) scenario of this century instead of Vietnam or WWII that have already been IPER-sfructated and don't mean anything to me.

There's an interesting titbit of info from The Spy section of the latest PC Gamer UK.

"For those looking for carnage, you can put some money on a certain Cold War squad shooter arriving in some guise in 2004. Not a full-blown sequel to the massive-selling original, but more than an addon pack. It'll be new and exciting, and should hold the fan base together until the sequel appears, possibly in 2005."

While OFP isn't actually mentioned by name, I can't think of anything else it could possibly be, so it looks like BIS could release something to keep us going til OPF2. If this is true, hopefully it will include JIP for multiplayer and other new XBOX content.
