I fail to understand why BIS/CM doesn't subcontract Kegetys to do the rest of the islands and snow vehicles and purchase the materials from him.

Because im doing it for tree http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Snow vehicles will be ready sometime soon, I still have to do the resistance trucks, scud and the jeep with machine gun. Then you'll all get them.

There wont be a snowy malden since its geographically located in a way theres never snow at there, at least not from me (I dont want to do unrealistic addons) But someone is working on a snowy everon already. (Though I did make one too but thats was just a quick test, it missed half of the trees and stuff)

Why would it need to be official... It wouldnt change the addon... Sure it might get some more downloads if it were on BIS/CM site, but it has gotten quite a bit of downloads already: about 6000-7000 downloads from my site, 5000 from ofpec, and who knows how many on other ofp sites (www.operationflashpoint.cz, etc.) http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Btw. hoz, theres version 1.1 of winter kolgujev available, you can get if from my ofp site at http://koti.mbnet.fi/stede/flashpoint or at www.ofpeditingcenter.com

Kegetys, i think what Avon meant is that your doing a pretty good job for the community why not make some bucks with it http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Avon, correct me if i was mistaken...

My feeling is that snow landscapes are so elementary that they should have been an integral part of the game. We've seen them in DF and others, We sort of expected them here, too.

There would need to be some game engine changes should BIS introduce snow. For example, if you can have rain, you should be able to have snow precipitation.

But what's really important is how snow and arctic camouflage uniforms should affect AI logic. Just as it's harder for us players to discern other players and AI wearing arctic uniforms in winter landscapes, so too the AI would need to be adjusted to also have this problem and the problem of distinguishing friend from foe in these circumstances.

This is something that could only be done with code changes and not through addons.

Please make Winter Malden and Everon. As much as the island maps are based on real islands, their names, locations and towns in the maps are totally fictitious. You would be providing the player community with what they've already stated to be one of the most popular addons out.

Please reconsider.

Well, snow rain would be nice indeed... Though there already is an unofficial addon that adds that but it makes my computer crawl http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Maybe BIS could add something in the next patch if they have time for it... Also what i'd like is make the puffs editable that come from the ground when you shoot it/drive on it. They are brown now, i'd want white puffs of smoke from snow...

As for camoing, it is possible to adjust the "AI Camo", theres a setting in the config.cpp that tells the AI how well camoed the unit is... well, unfortunately I kindof forgot to change that (*doh*), but I will propably fix that, im thinking of releasing a new version with snowy buildings, but for that I need the model editor.

Winter Everon is already being done (not by me though), and afaik. even in the game Malden is supposed to be located so that it never snows there, and the trees etc. dont suit very well on a arctic environment either.

Kegetys ***thanks for providing the Winter Addon!

I live in Canada and all my buds would love to play more winter missions.
I grabbed the updated version this morning.

The reason to make it offical would be that everyone could play winter missions. BiS should really provide a central site for custom made addons and missions. As it is now you have to search for addons when you want to play with missions requiring specific addons. Its a pain!

Here is why it should be official:

If it was official, BIS could change it so when you set the date to Jan 15, you actually get snow.

Heck, even if Kegetys doesn't want money for it I wish BIS would make it so the snow showed up automatically depending on date...

probably a little too much to ask for, but if BIS did it, it would be cool to see the soldier's breath. After all, they have shadows.

It's easy to modify the soldiers so that AI gets a detection penalty. Just adjust the camo value in the config. Lower is better. Just a little tad would do.

Kegetys, you should consider that for any winter island updates you might make. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

haven't tried it yet but it looks awesom.

Two questions first o anyone that can answer:

1) I currently have no addons installed cos people are always saying they cause problems - does this addon cause problems, is it just a file I can add/remove to the directory.

2) Do the vehicles leave tracks in the snow?

Quick Question...If the winter add on is placed on a dedicated server, a client that connects but does not have the add on will NOT download it from the server...correct???

Kegetys
Dec 18 2001, 14:55
Im lacking motivation to do them right now... But maybe someday.

But I dont think snowizing the aircrafts would be a very good idea... If theres snow/ice on the aircraft you're not allowed to take off afaik. And the aircrafts are kept in hangars when they arent in use so no snow would could ever get on them.

Urrh... the original question was does Winter Kolgujev cause problems... And, no addon can mess op your OFP so bad that you'd need to reinstall (or delete the whole addons folder) if it is a standard addon with just a PBO file. Just delete the PBO and you have uninstalled it.

When i started up OFP with the addon it crashed and then i restarted my computer(it also screwed up my videocard, it changed the resolution from 1041×768 to 640×480 in 16 colour mode), OFP didn't start anymore while scandisk gave me the error log when restarting my pc. i deleted the addons folder via DOS and started windows on safe-modus then i reinstalled OFP.

So the problem wasnt the addon but instead your Windows filesystem driver screwing things up... Windows 98 or ME I believe.
