I had the same problem I'm quessing. It was my Norton Virus Protection running in the background. Seems it checks all incoming and outgoing material and was slowing me down.

With it enabled I would get pings of 500ms on up.

With it turned off I usually hover around 130ms on a cable modem to a decent server. Hope this helps.

no offence but every Gammer out there should know that Anit Virus programs should be truned off to allow for smother game play, your not going to get a virus playing a game

it does scan every program and file being run by you computer

it can degrade you FPS by 20% (low end machines say 300 mhz)

and 2 % on high end machines (800+)
