This thread will be inticing more competition between scripters or mod teams. I suggest if the community is to be based on a cooperative form that this thread be locked to avoid conflicts that will arise.

To clear it up: these kind of threads will eventually lead to scripters holding back useful information from each other, and trying to encrypt their work. (the very concept we are against the the Chain of Command)

Okay... as for buidling scripts, would MF CTI be considered that? You build buildings in it, so I guess it would qualify.

I don't know, Bn880. There are plenty of "Best addon" sorts of threads out there. I don't see it as cause for competition.
I mean, if we look at the best addon stuff, the addons that garner the most votes aren't necessarily the "best" -- they often are the ones with the biggest texture maps, the highest face count, and the greatest number of performance-clogging "bloatware" scripts. (I am speaking in general, and not in specific)

but, yeah, beauty in scripting is something that's hard to judge. What uiox or I may consider as a drop-dead gorgeous hunk of code may not have much application or interest outside a small group.
Some will think MFCTI is the best set of scripts out there for the new dimensions of gameplay it opens; others will see it as a pig that eats a bunch of resources and causes servers to catch fire.
also what about the categories?

Category 1
Cars and other ground Vehicles script
Category 2
Airplanes and Choppers Scripts
Category 3
Unit Scripts
Category 4
Building Scripts

These all sound like addon scripts.

If you really want to categorize them, do something like:
1) Mission Scripts: scripts that a mission editor can put in that enhance the gameplay of the mission
A) SP Mission Script
B) MP Mission Script (If you've seen Bn880's CoC Network Services, you know what I'm talking about)
2) Effects Scripts: scripts that produce visual, audio or ordnance effects (such as all the rotar wash scripts out there; napalm).
3) Total Conversion Scripts: scripts that when installed make OFP an entirely different game (SP and MP): think the Command Engine and CTI
4) Addon enhancement scripts: Scripts that make an addon that much better.
5) Script-Based Addons: scripts integrated closely with addons so that they're essential for basic functionality (Basically, I'm thinking about the kind of stuff we did for CoC_Mines, and are doing for CoC_UnifiedArtillery. I'd be pretty poor if I didn't blow my own horn).
6) Dialog scripting: There are some handy dialogs out there.

But then you'd need to evaluate them on a variety of criteria, such as:
A) elegance
B) utility
C) efficiency in the OFP environment
D) innovative quality

In the end I don't think it's possible. There are a lot of good scripts and scripters out there, and if those guys are like me, they waste so much time working on their own stuff that they don't always see what everyone else is up to. Yet they are probably the best judges of this stuff.

Uiox, moze bys tak po Anglielsku muwij jak kazdy inny?

Anyways... here we go: Like Dinger hints if you think there is such a thing a an overall best script you are fooling yourselves. Almost every new script out is like a new type of fruit (lol), some are crearly at different skill levels than others, but when you try to compare them, you get into this apple and oranges problem. There are really no exact categories, no judges that can be trusted and fully informed at the same time.

You can judge by scripter skill, and that is best done by other scripters. The community has 10 to 20 excellent scripters, Uiox and Vektorboson are one of them, Dinger is a sure other. So what&#39;s this, you guys think it will be rewarding to name the best scripts, but what is really going to happen, is the 15 or so scripters will get their egos up, and the rest will be feeling like losers. A hobby turns into more stress, information is held back from scripter to scripter to avoid losing in the opinion polls. Really childish stuff and below the belt. The exact point Dinger is making about best addon threads, the competition is ridiculous.

You guys want to have best script awars I have a suggestion, have a competition. Think of a task that has to be accomplished and get scripters to compete. We&#39;ll see how many will participate freely, as they are being drawn into competition here right now. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

So take it from me, I majored in Computer Science and I am a hobbyist scripter, don&#39;t draw programmers or scripters into rivalry when we&#39;re talking about a game/hobby. There is enough of that at work.

Sincerely, Bn880 saying
<span style='color:red'><span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'>THERE IS NO BEST SCRIPT</span></span>

I agree.....

If there is ANY type of award or competition it should be:

Judged by an unbiased panel (not the community)
Consist of "submitted" scripts or like Bn880 said "Think of a task that has to be accomplished and get scripters to compete."

I do believe in recognition for hard work AND quality scripting... but not a war and NOT held back code.

In real life, music awards, movie awards, etc...
Money is spent and spent and spent on fads, icons, one-hit wonders, most flagrant spending of money etc...
Scripting is based not on return, but on how much someone can give out of how much time and involvment they are allowed. I&#39;ve seen scripts 3 lines long by a complete novice that even made me go http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wow_o.gif .... but it sat in a corner because it only applied to his ideas/work.

I like the idea of formal recognition, but it must be dealt with EXTREME care and not overpower the real goal: to improve OFP through scripting ideas and COOPERATION.

Hi all

Cant cause people have or are already doing them
Dust scripts
Swimming
True Indirect Fire
Multi unit control
Blood and gore
Support assets
Buy Sell
Working Light houses
MP Services
MP Anti Cheat scripts

Wait I know
A Logistics Database

For supply, and movement of ammo fuel personel and armour by land sea and air With a FARP and DROPS system.

So that invasions of islands from sea can be fully controled and properly suplied all tied up with a replacements system giving GIGANTIC BATTLES.

Should not be too hard as the replacement systems allready exists. It is mainly the database and Dialogue system that is required.

At CoC we would sponsor it and supply a forum section and download space for the final solution.

Kind regards Walker

what a silly thread.............

The best script is the one that does the job it is intended for, in the simplest means possible.

And as we know only too well, what pleases one set of eyes is torture to another, as personal opinions should be just that, personal.

..best script indeed&#33;&#33;

Just about any script from Snypir would qualify http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif. Almost everything he does is useful and most of all, user friendly.

His helicopter landing script is excellent for one.
