I was working on a small 4 or 5 mission nam campaign a few months ago, various issues have caused me to stop working on it. One of the biggest factors that caused me to stop is the crashing that the nam pack *seems* to cause, some claim that the nam pack doesn't crash their computer, others say it does.

The reason for releasing this mission at such an early stage of development is to see if I can contrive a method of stopping the crashing or discover what causes it.

This mission is quite like the we were soldiers film. Though it fails to capture the correct atmosphere that the film has, it is certainly worth a quick play http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif

Please let me know what you thought of the mission, and most importantly if you had a crash and how far into the mission it occurred (was there much shooting going on at the time?) any bug reports would be greatly appreciated.

Just tested it, nice intro with the smoke and all, the music didnt really fit with the nam setting but it was still very cool, now comes the bad part http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif , i ctd on the second atack, i think this happens when there are many soldiers atacking at the same time, i dunno...parhaps you could make the enemy respawn considering they dont atack all at the same time.

it must be a prob with the nam pack displaying many units at the same time, definatly not my comp...
Small request: would like to have more cover in the LZ, its kinda open and hard to defend, also the view distance option isnt really necessary has we can change it in video settings http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

First 5 minutes of the mission was F-U-N. Great atmosphere, the intro needs a little work (change the music, and a helicopter crashed in the first few seconds (not the one that was shot by the RPG)).

Second test: I was able to play for a while longer but it still crashed on second atack http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/sad_o.gif , and i was doing pretty well, i think you should try it with less soldiers on both sides, it kinda feels it really is a prob with many units shooting at the same time, never got to see night, nor use arty strike and flares, i hope you fix it, it is a very promising mission http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif .

Is it just sound effects and backround because that can be eleminated if you use Aeon's misc. pack. It had nam objects phrases and alot more intense battlefield backround. I suggest you try it. It's alot better than the bis combat backround

Thanks for the feedback guys, I am really at a loss as to why the crashes are occurring. I have removed all of the nam pack weapons except the M79 and grenades and replaced them with BIS standard weapons, this seemed to increase the time it took for the game to crash but did not prevent it. I have tried moving the mission to another island, this did not seem to stop the crashes.

Artillery is available from the start of the mission, you will have to wait a while for the flares option.

I will take a look at the sounds and see if they would fit in with the mission.

Thanks to all that have been helping with testing, I will post a new version as soon as I have made some progress.
