Knocked this together seeing I'm getting a few emails asking how to do it.
Basic Island Creation Using Paint Shop Pro Online Tutorial (http://www.dc3d.co.nz/VisitorTute/psptute.htm)
Great stuff, as usual! One more hint though:
By using the terrain errosion tool from the visitor tool menu you can make your imported terrain look smoother and more real. Especially if your island is not based on real height data but on an image like in Col. Klinks tutorial it will improve the looks of your island greatly!
Cheers for all your help Bob. I can now make heightmaps with ease thanks to your little guide. Just gotta get the art of making a island that looks natural but at the same time has a nice valley in it http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/crazy_o.gif
Great tutorial for height-/displacement-/bumbmap beginners.
Use smooth tool in Paint shop/Photoshop. It helps. And as a coninue to your tutorial i have made a small interval texturing online tutorial. Go here (http://koti.mbnet.fi/~hekezu/visitor_tut.htm). http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif
EDIT: Link was broken. Now it should work.

Hi folks,
tried the tutorial. But after importing the ase file into visitor, I get results like this one.
http://www.x-plane.org/users/jens198/Bild2.gif
after pressing the button on the right side of the zoom tool I cab see the island that way (twice the island plus the green line above it)

Any ideas what I did wrong?

Save your file as 32bit tga before you convert it to ASE. To get a 32 bit tga copy your grayscale image into an rgb image and add the alpha channel (3x8 bit rgb + 1x8 bit alpha = 32 bit). If you have less than 32 bit the image gets distorted when converting it with Kegetys tool.
Can someone make this a sticky??? This question turns up every second day...
Just also check that when you are saving it in rgb format that you do not compress it. You should see a box at the bottom when your about to save it called options click that and uncheck compressed.
Great tutorial klink! Already have my island done http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/smile_o.gif
