View Full Version : Un-armed and melee combat?

Im just thinking how smart it would be to be able to punch and kick. Im not suggesting Tekken or Jackie Chan moves, but just a simple punch and kick, done by clicking with the left or right mouse button when you are unarmed or out of ammo etc.
Maybe go further with the idea and let it be possible to pick up bottles, wood and anything else that could be deadly and swung about as a weapon?
Actions like this would make hostile civillian units more of a threat instead of lying down on the floor, pointing an invisible gun at you, or running around like headless chickens.
Also as many people are requesting the option to use some sort of knife, what about the option to fit a bayonet to the end of a rifle and have some sort of thrusting animation so you can inflict damage to another this way.

I would deffinetely like to see some kind of melee system implemented into OFP2. Like you said, it could civilians more of a threat. You might come across and angry mob and you could find some angry guy throwing punches at you.
Also, would be a lot better if opposing soldiers would get in a tangle with each other. Now, they just shoot each other, even when their only feet away, and even then it takes them awhile to getting around to shoot their targets. Melee is something BIS should look into for OFP2.

Yes, I realize that I've dug up a topic older than 4 months. I can get away with this because I think I'm adding something productive to the topic, not because I'm asking "BIS please respond to this" or something similarly innocuous.

I had an idea for unarmed combat last night while lying in bed. Yes, I do think about these things more than I should.

When I was in the Army, one of the more important things we were trained on in unarmed combat was something called "Unarmed sentry removal from the rear". Essentially, it is the art of sneaking up on someone from behind and killing or otherwise incapacitating him. You might imagine the usefulness of this for some Special Ops missions and whatnot. There's also an "Armed sentry removal from the rear" which involves a knife.

I think I may have thought of a way to implement this in OFP2 that might even work in OFP1.

In order to silently take out a sentry, you need to have your weapon on your back - as obviously you can't strangle someone while you've got your weapons in your hand. You must walk up to within 1m of your target undetected. Once you get to within that 1m an action menu option is created asking you if you want to "Eliminate Guard" or something similar. If you select this option, you will see an animation of your soldier's arms reaching out and look like it's breaking the neck of the target. Or, if you've got a knife, it will look like your soldier has cut the throat of the target. Once the animation is complete, you are then free to put your weapon back in your hands and carry on with your mission.

I like this idea because it makes it very difficult to sneak up and kill a soldier - how many times have you been able to sneak up on an AI in a game? Not many. It also provides for that "Oh shit" factor if at 2m distance, the AI detects you and you've already put your gun on your back - I think this realistically simulates the difficulty but also the potential effectiveness of "Unarmed sentry removal from the rear" and at the same time, it'll prevent it's overuse in MP games, I think, because you can't make a smooth transition between your weapon and unarmed combat like you can in so many games. And I'm sure most of you have played other MP games (CS, DoD, DF, etc.) and been gutted by some schmuck with a knife and an effective bunny hop.

They got melee on Call of Duty too, it is very good to have sometimes. Smashing a gun to there head.
We must have melee combat at OPF2 !
