View Full Version : Multiple theatres?.., why only one era?

While us hard-core OFP fans were under the impression that OFP-2 would focus solely on a Vietnam War-styled setting, many people were griping about it. Primarily because they wanted to use high-tech weaponry, the kind of cool stuff you see on the Discovery Channel http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif. With the Vietnam conflict being in the late 60's and early 70's, a lot of those high-tech toys would be out-of-place.
I would like to propose that the multiple theatre approach that BIS has recently announced should go even a step further. What if each theatre had its own era-theme?
60-70's equipment for the South-East Asia maps.
80-90's Coldwar Equipment for the African conflict.
Late 90's to present day (and maybe some future) for a Central Europe conflict.
I'm sure this might increase the workload of our friends in BIS, but it just might satisfy that nostalgic guerilla war of Vietnam AND the high-tech modern conflict other people want.
Why not HAVE IT ALL!!!! http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
PS- I love what you've done BIS, KEEP IT UP!!

Yea but unofficial MODS and addons are a freaking pain in the rear.
I like them but they slow things down, especially wuith public games on GameSpy....
You have to let people know what addons they need
You have to wait fo rthe 56Kers to DL them
You have to hold the hand of people to help then install some of them
AND AFTER THAT...half of them get dropped because they didn't do something in that list right.
Addons are often too much of a hassle.

Yeah! They should make it multiple eras as well! And they can even sell them separately! I know that I don't want to play Vietnam anyway! Just sell Vietnam version in US only to satisfy American customers.... http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I dont just think that its Americans interested in the Vietnam part of OFP-2.
All the possible conflicts have potential for different types of confrontations.
Vietnam- A guerilla war with a smaller stealthier force confronting a larger better equipped force
Central Europe- Possibly more conventional stuff we are used to from the older OFP.
Africa- Maybe another guerilla war with some peacekeeping type objectives on the side.
Variety is good, I want to play in the emotionally-dark and unpredicatbale enviornment of Vietnam. But I also want to face off against a Soviet-Block style force in a head to head match of technology and fire-power. OFP-2 will have variety...And thats good. you can pick the theatre that suits you or your squadmates.
Say...what do you guys feel like tonight? Trudging through the jungle looking for guerilla camps and hoping we don't get bushwhacked OR take part in a massive modern COld-war-just-got-REALLY-hot conflict and hope we don't get nuked?
Hmmmmm...I'll take one of each!!! http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
