On the face of that interview it seems like Bohemia have really listen to the functionality requests/requirements of the community to make gameplay more realistic.

I just hope this all translates well into a final product, Can't wait to see some screenshots!

Err...

My impression from that interview is that OFP2 will largely be a polished, tweaked and optimised OFP1.

Three things the interviewer raised that I think are really important and the kind of stuff I'd like to see in ofp2 (ballistics, better armor modelling as well as air flight models) were all rejected by Marek.

I get the impression that they plan to release the OFP2_Oxygen into the commnity before OFP2 hits the shelves.

I suppose they will do it like they did Oxygen - a limited release to people who know what they are doing and have a prooven track record.

I create addons 95%, play OFP 5% so this aspect is more important to me than anything else.

Perhaps by 2004 I might have even released / finished something.

There might not be screen shots at E3, but I can hold my breath for them, its the actual game I wanna see, not the graphics.

There probably is no such thing as OFP2_Oxygen, it will probably just be oxygen, but using different selections...

the full version just has an animation editor as extra, and extrude, which we can do manually anyway, and we have an unofficial animation editor already, so, theres not a whole lot of point to be honest...

Great reading, they are planning to make the game look better and larger islands too http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif , i wonder what the recomended specs will be to run such a beast eh? Very nice to hear some news from BIS, the future looks promising http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif .

IMHO BIS does listen to the community but what I think is happening is that all of the things that we want they already had in mind from the beginning but had to release CWC before they could all be implemented. I believe OFP2 to be the realization of everything they wanted in a game.

I'm a recent convert from IL2 FB, and I have to agree with the previous poster that Op Flash's and FBs AIs are the best in any existing game. Obviously imperfect, but the best currently available.

I really hope the vehicle and aircraft are improved, because right now both are very arcade (at least in damage modelling and handling) in contrast to the realistic FPS aspect. And I hope the multiple gunner positions allows for infantry to fire out of gunports on APCs. I thought that was an amazing detail the first time I rode in a BMP, but was disappointed that I couldn't actually shoot out.

I also hope that body armor and realistic grenades are addressed.

That is true, all the CWC/R AI really needs is abilties for open CQB (CQB in alleys and towns) And some improved ways for controlling the AI in your team. All other than that OFP AI is great, flanking, running away and all sorts of goodies. And multiple gunner positions and animals i cant wait http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Do you know, does the export as 3ds work? That would be a major bit of help. Export as 3ds with the mapping in place, the paa and pac files get converted to tga, open that sucker up in Deep paint or 3ds and work away. Then reimport with hopefully the same selection tagging in-place. <sigh>

I can't speak for IL2 FB since I don't have it but I fully agree with you regarding the AI in OFP. It's maybe not perfect (yet!) but the best I've seen so far.

Details like AI snipers never firing standing, AI snipers changing to pistol in "CQB" situations. AI advancing in "combat pairs" while other staying down providing cover. AI trying to outflank you. Retreating AI seeking cover near strong friendly units, to mention some of the things I noticed while playing. To me this shows that BIS put in quite some effort in the AI programming department...

Hope they will continue to improve on that and the scripting functions among other things.

I dont actually know, but from what ive heard about BIS' use of o2 and 3ds max, probably not, i dont think they would have any use for exporting into 3ds max.
