Ofp 2 plot - it's about evil russia (or u.s.s.r.)

Believe my guys, it will be again about evil Russians. With no doubts for me.

I've got some reasons for such statement:
1. There are no such powerful opponents for NATO or USA in the world exept Russia (may be China is, but it's not so interesting. Why? Look at number 4 http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif );
2. There are no countries in the world with so big weapon arsenal like in Russia;
3. There are no good possible scenario for military conflict except for Russia vs NATO (USA);
4. Czech's people aren't like russians and developers of this game aren't expulsion (Believe me, I'm know what I'm talking about).

1.) Maybe not in terms of military technology, but countries like North Korea (and Vietnam c.1960&#39;s) give the US a run for it&#39;s money in terms of sheer numbers.

Other, smaller & less tech. advanced countries & non-state forces may not be able to take the US head on in a conventional military conflict, but would be a real thorn in the side if fighting a guerilla war. ie. Vietnam.

2.) If you equate power with arsenal, then the USSR was a pretty good match. But most conflicts the US has been involved in have been with much smaller, far less well-equipped forces.

3.) Why? Why wouldn&#39;t a game set in Afghanistan, the Middle-East, Africa, S.E. Asia, or South America be as good as a fictional war between Russia and the US?

4.) Just because the BIS guys might not like Russia doesn&#39;t mean they&#39;re going to base another game in an anti-Russian format. They have to think of sales as well - OFP was set against Russian forces, why do the same thing in OFP2? If anything, they may lose sales from such a single-minded approach. They know that people other than Czechs play OFP and I don&#39;t think they&#39;d risk the popularity of OFP2 just to stick the boot into the Russians.

However, I won&#39;t be surprised if the US is the main force in the game (and even if it&#39;s portrayed in an overly positive light). In fact, if its based on a real war, it would probably be a good idea as the US has been involved in some way in a lot of conflicts...

Looks to me like a Vietnam War backdrop - perhaps OFP2 will be based in a sideshow conflict rather than the main war, or it will be a fictional war in Vietnam - one that proceeds differently to how it really did.

The original Flashpoint which was all about fictional war had great sales and in every review that I had read it got a good
score on the story...

They probably faked it because their soldier models are not complete, as far as i know in the production of OFP the coding of the engine came first, the aesthetics were an after thought, so i cant see it being any different, especially if OFP2 has some major engine changes, and possibly major netcode changes, as they mention full multiplayer support, the current netcode, although a lot better than the 1.00 version is still clumsy in places, and to any people hoping for another fictional setting on fictional islands, i think you should check the bis info about ofp 2:

I think the several different pictures that are almost certainly vietnam, coupled with the BIS ofp2 site which is obviously 1950-1970&#39;s era tv, and the fact they call it modern-historical, which indicates it will be some kind of true setting, retelling some kind of story, and the fact its relatively modern is another clue, it really doesnt take a genius to work out where they are going with this, also, i mentioned the pictures, there is not just one picture, there are several, from both the bis site, the ofp 2 site, and the codemasters ofp2 site, all vietnam:

IF it wasn&#39;t based in Vietnam, I personally would love to see the game based on the other insurgency wars during the 60&#39;s/70&#39;s. Places like Oman, Rhodesia, Angola (looking forward to that mod) or even if it is based in Vietnam, even I would love to see Aussie and NZ troops get more attention, at least to make it different. I&#39;m at the point now where I&#39;d be more than happy if BI based the game in Europe and used European units just so people would STFU and stop with all the anti U.S. sentiments.

Uh....? Is there some sort of official War-Interest-O-Metre that I&#39;m unaware of? Maybe other wars of the same vintage are more interesting to you, but Vietnam was certainly the most important. I can see that maybe your disinterest in Vietnam is due to it having been done in a lot of other games (Vietcong, OFPs Nam Pack) and that&#39;s understandable. There are a lot of other conflicts that could be simulated that have never been represented (and a lot that won&#39;t ever be). I&#39;d love a game focusing on Aussie troops in New Guinea or Borneo during WWII, but I know that not a lot of other people are terribly interested in that.

My point isn&#39;t invalid, and certainly isn&#39;t as subjective as yours is. If OFP2 is set in Vietnam it&#39;s because of a number of factors - among them:

1.) BIS thinks Vietnam would play well in the gaming demographic, better than a war that not many people have heard of.

2.) Vietnam is, for some reason, of more interest to BIS developers than another US/USSR game.

Ok here&#39;s my theory.

Guba is 40 years younger, he flew to north vietnam to "try and take over the world" *put pinky to mouth*.(okay okay.. he&#39;s just a dentist for the top leading VC general.)

While based in NV, he meets a albino/viet girl who&#39;s named angel. They get funky and have a daughter named angelina. The US and SV troops are sent in, and Guba is the secret dentist no one knows about. During the war Angel gets HIV. The VC castrate Guba, which makes him furious. He grabs angelina and flies to Russia(home country), and then becomes a officer there.. and we wind up with Resistance..

NVA and VC didn&#39;t have a chance with their weapons and vechicles, yet they won because of stragetic battles and great opprotunities on attacking the allied army. I wount start to discuss about them here, there is wrong place for it, but I fundamentaly changed my relations to Chez. There shouldn&#39;t be eny good vs. evil setting. There are good and bad on both sides. Soldiers are ordered into battle by the government whetever they wanted it or not so even if the leaders are evil the soldiers arent. Right, shouldn&#39;t be. But it is imposible to find a game without evil side in main storyline. The reasons what guided by developers can be various, but the basical are well known - incentive to increase profits (why such storyes are so popularity, it&#39;s another question) and detestation.

Concerning CWC scenario I think no one excepted a Czech guy can understand the resentment Czech people had against Russia since what happened in the late 60. And it&#39;s a very bad taste behaviour to blame them for feelings we can&#39;t understand.
By the way i can&#39;t stand either how americans are always the good guys, but i think it&#39;ll never be possible to make them evil in a game , simply cause they can&#39;t handle/understand it.

according to their recent interview,  the U.S was one of the largest markets for the game. You don&#39;t realize how large the market is in the U.S.  A #10 game in the U.S market will still earn far beyond #1 in most other countries.

One thing that would be fun is if they made a big crisis, and that they implented a great number of countrys that are involved, and that you can choose to play for any of them...
They can have like a short country crisis as the begginning missons, and then in the later missions when the enemy is driven out of your country, the country have to send troops to the front, and among that troops is ofcourse you...

Why there are so many negative comments against France? I don’t understand it.
France is the beautiful Country (I’m dying to see Paris). And their military has the same competence as any other military in the world.
You don’t like them because their didn’t support war in Iraq? So no one did.

I don’t think there is any hate. I’m personally didn’t hate anyone, especially Americans. This country gives me much more then any other. And I do like most of the Americans.
If you will know them better, you will realize they are very nice peoples.

Sometime I’m just disagreeing with the “target” they choose. I 100% support US in Afghanistan, I.m 100% unsupported them in Iraq, and I,m will 100% support them if they choose Saudi Arabia as next "target".
