View Full Version : Ofp 2 system specs
Just browsing through the amount of suggestions for OFP 2, often makes me wonder what type of system would actually be able to run such a game if all of the wishes were granted. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
I didn't want to start 2 different topics so:
The POLL question
1. Would you upgrade your system specifically for OFP 2 if it really pushed the boundries, e.g.
Far larger playing area, scalable view distance greater than 5000, more defined urban areas , more realistic vegetation, areas of tall grass, etc, etc... ?
On a slightly different tack ;
2. What kind of system should OFP 2 be geared at ? Bearing in mind that BIS have to appeal /sell to many system configurations yet still try and make OFP 2 an ambitious project in terms of content.
What desktop technology will be around late this year / early next year ?

Where's the "I would upgrade - minor improvements is enough - only the best is good enough for my favourite game" option?
Well, I would argue that Resistance provided "minor improvements " and more.
OFP 2 is a full on sequel, so I would hope that BIS ups the ante quite a bit. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I was just looking at the requirements for Raven Shield and the Minimum specs for that is 800mhz, 128 Ram and 32 MB 3D video card with hardware T&L.
Should that be the base system for OFP 2 ?

I think ill do fine cause my comp is pretty good now and i dont expect to upgrade in the near future, optimization is the key here has i cant take full advantage of a 2 year old game on a very up to date machine http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif , i think bis is a company that is way ahead for its time, ppl should consider hardware limitations before asking for some of the stuff that is posted in the OPF2 sugestion threads http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif .
I assume it will all be scaleable anyway and therefore able to run on systems that are considered toward the lower end, so it's not like they have to technically target an audience with specific specs ...

I'll probably do it the other way around: When recommended specs are known for OFP2, ill have my absolute minimum requirements for my new PC http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

when ofp2 comes out i want to make sure i can play it at full graphics and resolution. I will definatily upgrade for ofp2. Does anyone know what graphics card you think will be majorly supported? Last time it seemed to be nvidia, but now that ATI and Nvidia are facing off pretty close, its a hard descision.

I voted the second one, I plan to upgrade anyway, but if it wasn't for Opf I wouldn't be all that fussed about upgrading as everything else runs ok on my current system, I just want Opf to look the best it can http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I'm wondering if some BIS guys or maybe mike from CM can give us info what about the system minimum will be !?! http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
I just bought my comp a year ago, so by the time ofp2 comes out I will have to get a new one. I dont think anyone knows how much power a comp will have by then.

Well i bought a new comp about 2-3 months ago ... AMD running at 2.2 ghz so its pretty fast, i hope so anyway by the time Op Flash 2 comes out, the only thing i will prob upgrade by then is my graphics card, at the moment i have a GF4 Ti4200 64mb which isnt to fast even though it is overclocked.

System specs aren't determined until nearer the end of the development process, where the code is optimised and a load of debug stuff is removed. I wouldn't even guess at the specs as of yet http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I think OFP2 is too early in development for BIS to have decided what the minimum specifications will be.
I voted option 2, as I am sure I will have upgraded most, if not all of my system by the time OFP2 reaches my computer.
*Edit* Miker CLO posted while I was typing.

Now i got a AMD XP 2200, 1024 DDR Ram, 120 GB, Geforce 4 Ti 4600 (128MB) - i think the onliest thing ill probably upgrade is the graphic card. Ill take a geforce 5 and OFP2 will run http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Well i vote for number 4. I think its stuped to Upgrate your comp just for a game. i Have Duron 1100/512MB/GeForce4 MX 460 and OFP is working OK on it. And i am not planing to Upgrated him.
Ofcause in 1 year, When price on XP 3000+ fals down to the 100$ i will buy it. But now. Buy this thing for 500$. Neeeh find another idiot for this.

I can't upgrade my dell dimension 4300s any more. The frame is too small to hold a good video card, i have a nvidia Geforce 4mx 420. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

You dont know what you are missing out, seriously it is like a completely different game on a high specs computer. I can tell you cuz I have play ofp on a amd 400, res on a 1.1 p3 and now a 2.4 p4, but I am not gonna upgrade for a couple or 3 years (broke http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif )
Well I voted: I`ll never upgrade just for a game http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I`m such a liar http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .....I forgot Lock On http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
I need one for it to, so I stop delaying my upgrade for another 6 months http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Considering that is due for release at the end of 2004. I would of had this current machine for 2 years.. I will probably upgrade.
I would have prolly upgraded my 'puter by then anyway. you know that Motherboard you just bought is obsolete by the time you get home and unwrap it.

I think 18months is a long time to finalise system specs ... anyone who thinks technology stands still is stupid.
2Ghz, 1024DDR 128Mb machines will be slow and old hat ... but may be minimum for OFP2. and thats fine.

Tell me about it http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif
I bought the newest KT3 mobo, and by the time it got to me, there was a new model.
I am not going to upgrade anything until September at the earliest. Everything is working fine for me, so there really isnt a lot of point to change now. That and I am gonna be buying an Athlon64 at the earliest possible point! http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

i think its a waste of money being at the bleedin edge of computer hardware, computer speeds double and prices half every 6months, like im gona buy me a 2000xp for like 150$ NZ when they came out they were like 500$, when ofp2 comes out 2.2ghz or sumthing will be slow computers. I dont see the point of being at the bleedin edge as long as u are over 25fps u cant tell.
my geforce2MX is going to retire soon http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
im dreading upgrading my system again as ive only just done it and hope it will be still top for when ofp2 comes out id guess by 2004 they will be getting close to the 4 gig mark in processor and the radeons and geforces will be using ddr2 and dx10 with having at-least 1024mb of ddr2 in ya comp. well thats all the componants i guess i will be upgrading next year http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

Well I upgrade my pc on a regular basis. At the moment i have duel core amd 6000+ (runs at about 3gig) 4 gig of 800 ram Geforce 7950GT with 512 ram and I still dont think it runs it that well. So what that next one will need is beyond me. Flashpoint could never be set to the max no matter what spec you had

You dig out a topic from 2003? There is a newer Topic from 2007/2008 regarding the system specs of (now named) Arma2.
Regards, Christian
I regularly upgrade my computers to increase performance on my favourite games and usually it is just one title that spurs me on.
Whether or not ArmA 2 will be that title remains to be seen. ArmA 1 wasn't.
However I suspect that if they are looking for console compatability that no upgrade will be necessary this time round.
If anything I expect the optimum specs to significantly reduce.
