Real weapon balistics (while not kiddy frendly OFP never was realy anyway) this was the only thing that preveted me from call in the OFP the "Greatest Game Ever" .
As like alot of ppl I have come a cross in the OFP world, they look at the game (OFP) as a sim, as do I, so this stuff makes sence to me,
I see the next step in the evolution of this game is to go more to the real world. Realy only one company novalogic has tryed this (balistics & grass) but after DF2 the seemed to kiddy things down to the current level of crap they try to sell us , with auto drop-compinsators (because the kiddys couldent play DF2) , why they went this way has me stumped when you look at the stats on the sales of computer game some 80%of the games sold here in Australia are to Men aged 25-35 , and the bigest seller's are sim so I am told. As part of this bracket this is what I seek in a game at the moment its Balistics(Windage inc) and grass lots off grass , realy for me thats all the first game lacked not inc the netcode thing.

If you haven't noticed, there aren't any games that have a combination of large/detailed environments, ballistics/physics and multiplayer: there is just too much info to send and the cpu to handle. Remember "Global Ops"? Also, with that, forget about any competent AI. You have to remembet that game design is a series of tradeoffs.

Delta Force 1 and 2 where the first with masive maps (i mean MASIVE) and balistics ,ie, you had to hold off 16inches at 300m with a zero at 100 and so on
me and a mate sat down one day and looked at it all ,the M40 in this case as i have heeps of my own range data on .308 and also it's very close to the set up i use, when we looked at the virtual drop(DF2) and what i would wind on in the feild they where very close (very)
it was also posable using the .50cal Barret to kill a target at 2000m+ only twice did i kill past this range at 2800m and 2400m but it was posable and i never realy used the the Barret I played with the m40 90% of the time
As for the data rates it has been done in MP, DF2 prouved it was posable
while the first OFP sp was good the mishions where too predictable, i got the game for MP now days, if a game dont have MP i dont even look at it
I think it was the M4, i have never heard of an M40.
But yes, weapon ballistics would be very good and need to be highly detailed, and also have some way of marking pretty much exactly on the body of the ai the entrance and exit wound, so you can see if you're aim is on, also bullet holes in targets would be appreciated, for the same reason. If grass is desirable and implemented, find a way of cutting it, because in Vietnam the Americans put out so much fire that they would cut grass and small trees down to sight level. Huge fields of elephant grass would be a couple of inches short in minutes of a firefight.

This topic really hasn't had any new posts recently, so....
Okay, Delta Force didn't exactly have a massive outdoor environment. It was just the same 2km x 2km terrain tile that was fitted together over and over and over and over and over... you get the point
Balistics: I think wind is an excelent idea. Not many games simulate that really. Of course, I'd like to be able to turn it off, because I'm not too great of a sniper. One aspect of ballistics i'd like to see is bullet mass combined with ragdolls. Also, bullets should be able to pass through the materials they would in real life. 9mm wouldn't go through much, maybe really flimsy crates, .45 through most interior walls, 5.56 and 7.62mm through decent cover (thin metal, oil barrels, unarmored vehicles), and .50 and 20+mm going through just about everything, with the exception of thick concrete barricades. (actually a 25mm + round would) I loved shooting bad guys through walls, doors, and metal containers in IGI 2.

The original DF didnt had any ballistics, those and wind effect were introduced with DF2, it was kinda weird to see tracer of bullet do a jump before hiting target, specialy with the M4 eh? I think it is more realistic to compensate for barrel jump by aiming a bit lower than to compensate for bullet drop specialy with non scoped rifles. Wind efect i find unecessary because of MP games and LAG http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif , and the grass was ok but the terrain wasnt even close to the realistic display and dense vegetation (forests and stuff) of OPF, it was a cool game at the time but OPF alone beats every game that company ever released and problably everythink they will release in the future too http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/biggrin_o.gif .
