View Full Version : Two questions - lod levels and windows / glass

I need some help, thankyou in advance for any advice you can offer.

A have a question about LODs, how many resolution LODs do you recommend for a vehicle. And does 0.35 mean 350meters that the LOD will kick in?

If for example, 0.00, 0.10 and 0.35 are recommend, what sort of details would be expected for each? Should .035 be a simple box shape with textures?

And the windscreen, I am having numerous problems with it. The inside view of the windscreen is provided by the View - Pilot LOD, I have made it so the player can set out of it ok and it looks like a windscreen.

From outside though you can see through the windscreen and through various parts of the frame :/

Any guidance is much appreciated.

We talked about the windscreen in the other post.

On the LODs...if you look in the Bis or other car models you usually see about 6 or 7 lods
First of all hardly any have a 0.000 LOD (weapons I think maybe do)
But you don't usually see a 0 lod, depending on the complexity of the model 6 lods will do
You want to achieve less than 300 faces in at least the last lod so you can make it have a shadow.
The lod numbers do not relate to distance ,relates to cpu usage and such

As long as you shave faces throughout the lods your doing good.

But best thing would be look at a Bis model,unfortunately the demo models are from back when P3's were coming out so you can make em a little nicer as computers are faster now
