Hello,
This is LTC.Warpig of the 1st battalion 8th Marines OFP squad. I am writing to every squad in the ofp league to ask if they would like to join us in a renting a 100 player server. We are looking for 6 squads to join us we would like these squads to be well involved with ofp with regularly active members. The cost for this server is $600.00 a month split 6 ways would be $100.00 each squad a month. The full 6 months must be paid up front for each squad. The reason for this up front payment is due to the fact of the bandwidth that is required for the game. Our server company must sign a 6 month contract with there bandwidth provider to receive this much bandwidth. If for some reason a squad can not make a monthly payment or if we pull out after 1 month the company will go under. So to protect them and to keep us out of a legal contract we pay the 6 months up front. each squad will have a 4 hour block of time that they are allotted every 24 hours times will rotate on peck times every 6 days. We are currently paying $100.00 for a 20 man server.
If you have any questions please contact me at andystev@hotmail.com
or call our server company www.actionblaster.com

ok but how are you going to get the conection speed

RN Malboeuf
Nov 15 2001, 09:06
huh? a T3 Server is Fast, my T3 Web Servers have set upload band width for each Site so can't be used in gaming

it turns out I only have 1 T3 that is not capped, and our RN server will be on that one as soon as I find a spare 1 ghz to put on it

If you buy the computer (server) and talk nicely to a Tech at your ISP he might beable to get it hooked up for little cost

Well, I have a 100mbit switched network connection onto a 3Gbit internet uplink. For free.

And my suggesion is this: harass BIS to make opflash dedicated server more stable. I don't know if you were planning to run multiple servers on the same machine or if you're trying to just run one big server but earlier 40 player games were possible but now ded server conks out before you can even start a 24 player game http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

(p.s. gimme a linux standalone executable!)

What kind of bandwidth are you guys seeing with this game? Man, it’s totally off the scale for me. I’m hitting 700k sustained uploads (peaking over 1000k) to the server while at the same time hitting 400k downloads with only 10-12 guys. I don’t see how hosting 20 or more is even possible unless you own your own ISP site. I host a racing game that can host 30 guys and it uses a fraction of the bandwidth that this game does and the warp is a lot less. It’s also far more important to have fewer warps in a racing game. Are you controlling the bandwidth somehow, or am I doing something wrong, or is it really this much of a pig? I can’t even afford to host this game anymore and we have a great server with tons of bandwidth, but not enough for this game.

My ISP bill is gonna kill me this month.

Hey Guess what they are Free Since I OWN them and installing new ones cost me but they pay for them sekf through the work load they handle

for every 2 T3's I get i get 1 free
FREE 100%

each of those will be a RN Based Server as time goes by

We have Multiple OC3 connections at FragHaus... I also own the ISP it runs off.

However, my problem is actually utilizing that bandwidth... I can't seem to get our servers to actually soak the bandwidth. They peak out at like 1000-1500... no matter how many people are on. We have had 32 playing on an intensive mission I made... Rescue Randolph and still not going higher.

We have at any given time 20Mb+ available to the server...

Someone tell me how to use more Bandwidth with an OFP server and I will give you a cookie...

>>>>They peak out at like 1000-1500...

sounds like your capped at T1 upload, my Cable at home is 1700/1500

how do you own it? can you actually walk into work and look at the server or is it rented/bought else where?

my two main lines are capped for each DSN link to it
and my T3 locally is not capped, it's not used for web servers, I think from the last pulse through it it can handle 4500/4500 but that was 2 months ago, and the line is just not used

BigQEd
Nov 27 2001, 08:57
Again I own the company (ISP www.1st.net) and I would know if it was capped. It is not capped.

We own multihomed OC3's. We have full access to the whole circuit... no caps.

RN Malboeuf
Nov 27 2001, 22:08
You said it your self, you cant reach past 1500, and I've used the server allot, it in to way has the speed you claim it has.

Now once again, do you rent them else where or can you actually walk into the building and see them?

BigQEd
Nov 27 2001, 23:47
WE OWN THE CIRCUITS... WE OWN THE BANDWIDTH... WE OWN THE BUILDING.

LOCK, STOCK AND BARREL

How many times do I have to say it... and in how many ways?

FIRST Net is a large Regional ISP and we have a hefty network... and it is our network.

THERE ARE NO CAPS! Other than maybe the game having limitations.

We have several different types of servers running and none have these issues. From Quake to CS to WolfenStein.

That's a fact jack!

Ask the hundreds that play on our server everyday... [/QUOTE]<span id='postcolor'>

it's called Radish's
he's had up tp 40 players

you have been just squeezing by at 20

Angry Radish
Nov 28 2001, 23:42
To stick my neck in this really quick, yes, we have had 40 players on the server, but it was on a simple map, and the FPS suffered pretty badly. My current bottleneck is actually processing power, the GHZ processor is maxed out with about 26-28 players, so I currently have players limited to 20-22 to keep flying possible on some of the larger maps.

BigQed, as far as I'm concerned, your server has set the standard for OFP servers. The only real differences between our servers are the types of maps played, and the hours they are operational. (not having my own ISP, i need to save some bandwidth on my measley T-1 for my users during the day :-))
Many of the players that frequent my server either play on mine, or yours, no others, so I'd say that I at least compare to yours:-)

BigQEd
Nov 29 2001, 10:01
Thank you Radish...

We are doing all we can...

Now if BIS can get OFP to require less CPU we will all be happy... It's a d*amn HOG! http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Nov 29 2001, 15:01
Less CPU? Better FPS? Go in your user config file, set the framerate to 120, and stay away from the video pref. screen in-game ^_^

RN Malboeuf

yes there is the fact that Frag has mostly AI Populated maps

OFP cannot just lower it's CPU load, it's not like other games, there are more AI/player tasks, take for exaple, we can see where a player/AI is looking while he's using the look mode (*)

there are meny more such add ons, you cannot compair OFP to Q3 or CS

also you stated that your running on a Deul proceesor, is OFP Ded server really using both?
head over to
http://techtv.com
and go in to the screen savers site and you'll find a program for testing to see if you are using both at any given time

I've used Radish server allot and have played 20vs20 many times, hours on end really (have not been home in the last week to beable to play)

The only map I've had problems with is the Vehicle Desart map with that many players, we all tend to die and crash when we're in the air in choppers/planes

BigQEd
Nov 29 2001, 19:00
Malboeuf...

The ONLY map you would have played on ours that has 20+ slots available (until recently) would have been the Mission that I made... Rescue Randolph. And as I have stated that missions was VERY INTESIVE with choppers all over the map. I have since tweaked the mission and now it seems much smoother.

We are able to play with 20+. Just some missions with Choppers and such are hogs and kill OFP.

Also you mentioned SMP... no OFP is not utilizing the full potential of Dual Processors. BIS do you plan to have a setting for this like Q3?

TechTV... LOL... ROFLMAO... they are a consumer informant and thus are dumbed down.

thats why I posted the link to them,

you said that OFP works fast becasue you have the s**e
r on a Dual Processor

when in fact most all ready knew it did not suport it.

if you want to talk to BIS about it don't post it here, send it to the Support Email here on this site under the FAQ page

Best get your Server on a real system like a Athlon XP

BigQEd
Nov 29 2001, 20:06
LOL... thats a funny statement:

Best get your Server on a real system like a Athlon XP

You should revise it to say:

Best get your OFP Server on a system it likes, like a Athlon XP

Because I can tell you most servers run much better with high end Dual Pentium Processors. i.e. Web and Email servers. XP is optional... however their does seem to be a little better SMP with XP.

AMD is not really good on servers, thats the only good thing I can say about Intel. I'd never put one of thoise in my PC, but If I built a server it would def. be a Dually Intel

BigEd as far as their SMP being a "little" better, thats an understatement. AMD just doesnt ,market as well. But AMD's newest XP 1900+ smokes teh P4 2.0GHz In EVERY test. Now I'm not sure about when teh Northwood 2.2GHz is out(ETA Jan.7, 2002) but then aain teh TBred will prob. beat that http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
