Our site managed to get an interview with Marek Spanel.
You can read it here. (http://west.flashpoint.ru/)
Flashpoint.ru: Are you going to release any more editing tools for OFP? Is there going to be a new version of Oxygen? Will you release a proper user manual for. Oxygen? Will there be a plug-in for 3DMax and other modeling programs?
Marek Spanel: We still...

A new add-on such as OFP: Resistance or a full game with the new engine?
Marek Spanel: Independence Lost is an effort of our studio in Australia. It's an interesting project but it's still too early to reveal any specific details or even to confirm it will be released. We will decide later on future of this project but we have no intention to release it this year. At the moment, we focus on the Xbox version and on the second generation game using our technology due out 2004.[/QUOTE]<span id='postcolor'>
so we got to wait for 2004 anyways, o boy I hope u addomakers r gonna keep me busy, very busy, and u guys make missions and campaing loads of em (I cant do them I suk too much) http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Nice interview, but I fear that OFP will losse a large majority of it's current fanbase, if there will be no more updates/addons.
OFP 1.91 has serious issues with multiplayer. A large number of players get timeouts en masse, which didn't happen back in 1.85 times. Without a fix for this, many people might loose the interest. Furthermore, if the next game indeed is far in the future (at least a year) the community will be reduced to all but the diehard players because of no more updates till then. If it is really planned that the current 1.91beta will simply loosen the beta desigantion, with no further changes, this will be a catastrophy for many of us. The community has been waiting since mid-december for a decent new update. Letting us down now WILL come back to you sooner or later. There has been talk for months now regaring the 1.91b, with lots of feedback and smaller requests. Now they tell us it was all in vain. Well, my day is screwed. Thx. :-(
What a disappointment that IL won't be released this year. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/Skin/Default/PostIcons/icon12.gif

I wish BIS would consider capitalizing on the addons they've already produced for VBS1.
If they are or can be made compatible with OFP 1.9, how much would it cost them to whip up an expansion pack, including a new campaign and missions using those addons?
To cut marketing costs, it could be downloadable, like Red Hammer originally was.
If enough would sell to see a decent profit on this, everyone would be happy.
It certainly would increase the current version's lifespan.

Me neither, but I want at least a working stable netcode for multiplayer and voice-over-net fixed/tweaked for socket netcode. However, I won't mind new addons either. Hell I would even pay for them as long as they are official. I'm not even asking for a fix regarding sliding tanks etc., as I have given up on this long ago, but at least the game should be stable. I`m not so happy...
I`d have rather liked to see some old bugs fixed, like the missing strela pic, the bug where you can`t lock on with AA in MP until you reload your already loaded launcher, and many other things that were mentioned as bugs in the forums. I know that OFP:R is a very complex game, but a final patch should at least fix the known bugs http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
And what`s with the Camel for example, it`s also just beta. Or the direct speech thing? It`s still not working...
I don`t want to sound too negative, but right now I`m still very depressed, because I waited for a new patch since the 1.91 beta. That`s been four month, I guess...
I really honor BIS for it`s support up to 1.85 or 1.90, that time has just been outstanding. But I expected a happy ending so to say, a patch that fixes the known bugs and not a 1.91 beta that just becomes "official".
I`ve been with OFP from 1.00 on. That it ends this way makes me sad and it also steals my illusions somehow. Of course I`ll buy OFP 2 too, but OFP:R is losing it... I think we`ll lose a lot of good men (and women) especially in the MP community worldwide. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
I second what FallenPalladin says and i have to add that many ppl willjust move on due to unactualised patches.
Sounds sad but life continues....
I´ve been playing OFP since the demo and its the only game i have really played with some exceptions, i´ve nearly lived with it....
What are we gonna do now?? http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Codemasters should reject the current 1.91 beta and demand a better patch than this, especially if there will be no new OFP until 2005 at the earliest?! OFP on the XBox is not a "new" OFP, and Independence Lost still might not even come out according to what Marek said. If IL does come out, that would be a nice time for a MAJOR patch, like sometime this summer.

I have no problems with current netcode, and super-fast servers, I think that the biggest boost to OFP Multiplayer was the 2Ghz 1024Ram servers, with 5Mbit+ connections. since these have been afforadable the gamplay is fine, we can have 24 people on a complex coop map and still maintain performance. ... hosting a game for 6 people on a home dsl line may not be as smooth, and maybe thats where the sockets netcode lacks ... 56 and 64Kers do struggle more on MP thesedays, but the improvement for those with good connections is great.

It's not a problem with the server, it is a problem with the game itself. Many people (not all) are getting time outs during play on a regular basis. The problem is that this only happens since the second last patch, and only for certain people. These people are getting the timeouts very often, though.
Now with BIS discontinuing OFP, people like me are screwed, as we have to live with this game bug introduced with one the last betas. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

A sad day indeed to hear we will be getting no more OFP related releases from BIS until 2004.
I was hoping that IL would be out this year to tide us over, but apparently not.
Now more than ever, we need the OFP community to pull together to extend the life of OFP.
High definition texture updates, high quality addon packs (like BAS Rangers), and a more uniform approach to addons (we really need to pull our collective fingers out and create some sort of standardized addon packs for MP and SP use) to make new and exciting missions & campaigns.

1.2 million copies of OFP sold, but only 200 000 OFP:R sold. Now the GOTY edition would prop up that number slightly.

Yes, I would guess that for every legitimate copy there would be at least 1.5 pirated copies out there.
That = about 3,000,000 copies of OFP.

I think that's because they are secretly three-heaed aliens from Sirrus B, with a mission to enslave all mankind with their addictive computer games. How's that for speculation http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Hey, what`s so funny with that? I`m with the forums for a very long time now and I participated in the first patch testing after 1.00. Why shouldn`t I get interviewed, too?

Mark says BIS are going to make a big announcement shortly, HOWEVER, and this is the big one, he's not sure that Independence Lost is even going to be released......
Now, I dunno about you, but maybe.... MAYBE there are 2 projects on the go here, an OFP2 and ID perhaps?http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif?http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif?

ID = IL by the way http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
Ya, he did say BIS in Australia is making IL, so yeah -- two projects are in the making, I guess. But who will buy IL (assuming it's an expansion to OFP1) if it's going to be released about the same time as OFP2 is out...?

My initial thoughts on IL are.... flight.... Ive yet to see a SS with Infantry in, only aircraft. and a boat.

Granted, their are humans there, but they could be used for things like when you get captured (Like in one of the EuroFighter games) or just look that good when you get up close, because most Flight Sim games nowadays have views of Ground forces when you get low, I know Falcon 4.0 did, and that games ancient.
Also, who said it uses OFP engine? Correct this if Im wrong of course, but I havent seen it said anywhere that it will use the same engine as OFP, these SS could also be taken from VBS1 (I doubt it, but you never know http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )
Therefore lotsd of unfounded rumors but when I first saw OFP SS's the emphasis was clearly based on Infantry, while with IL the first SS's I saw were of choppers and aircraft on Carriers eor in flight.

I'd say the IL emphasis on aircraft/ships in their screenshots is to illustrate the main differences between it and OFP - perhaps the simulation of infantry in IL isn't that much different to regular OFP, while other areas (ships in particular) are leaps and bounds ahead. Makes sense to point out which parts of the engine have been improved the most...
Seeing as IL is based on the East Timor conflict (or a future conflict in ET), I think it's highly likely that the infantry aspect will be the main part of the game, just like it was in real-life...
