I'd like to know how many addons I should add to the mission I'm making, if any at all. I personally don't like hunting around for addons, unless its for an entire campaign, but maybe that's just me? How many people use the BAS addons for instance? Is there a limit to how much you're willing to download for single mission?

As long as you include links to the addons, or, if small enough, zip them up with your mission file.

Also (this may be difficult), try to stick to "popular" addons, try looking in the best addons ever sticky.

Make two versions. ONe with the addons. ONe without. It's not hard.

Hmm...that would change the whole mission really.

***Sometimes (I know I do this) people make missions simply so that they can play with a particular addon that they like.

If the addons are nicely laid out its not too much of a problem, the Nam pack 2 was no problem with 'getright' but if I'd been asked to download it as a dozen seperate modules I'd never have bothered.

Likewise I'm much more willing to download for a campaign. If a single mission requires addons I'll usually not bother.

I voted Single missions only because I hate not having the right addons for an MP mission.

When designing a mission I try and keep to the popular addons such as the nam pack, or the BIS deltas.

I have some addons, which are the most important i think.
If a mission needs up to 20 MB addons or Nogojev, its ok

Addons are fine as long as they are easy to get hold off. Everyone who bothers with any addons at all will have SEBNAM2, BAS Delta/Rangers, Winter Nogojev.

Other addons for multiplayer games may mean that they cant be uploaded to servers, as the server must have the addon.

For single player mission you may download a 5mb addon to play the mission, but proably not 100Mb of addons from 37 different websites, so make it as easy to get the required addons and as small as possible.

I personally like when the missions/campaigns come with all of the addons necessary. I don't like hunting for the addons. This is why I plan on including all of the addons necessary in my missions. It saves time and anoying hunting for addons that were removed from an old site.

What i'd like to see (not sure if it's possible tho) are missions that use an addon, for example a comanche, as a first priority, but if the player doesn't have the addon, it would be replaced by a standard BIS gunship.

Yeah that would be ideal, maybe still kick up the missing addon message so that we know something is missing but not make it a fatal problem http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I'm not sure if this wouldn't cause a major desync to any
calculations done by the game.

Think about: unequal model, flying abilities, weapons, pilot
actions, armor, cargo space, etc.

I don't think this could be easy to implement and i even don't expect this to be possible.

I like missions that use addons, as they tend to add character. e.g. Anmac's aussie missions (but that's probably more due to the classy voiceovers.. )

One thing I don't like is when 574 addons are used for no reason at all, or if theyre crap ones (no blood textures or just BAD). An even worse crime, imo, is referencing addons that aren't actually used in the mission..

We have a pack of addons compiled which contains some good stuff from various artists at www.digitalgrenade.com ...the addons are geared toward adversarial online play, but still some good stuff and all in one place. Have a look at the site for more info. There are currently 8 dedicated servers using the pack we put together.
