I'd like to a minute so just sit right there, i'll tell ya how i became the prince of a town called Bel-Air. *cough* Well, anyways. I'd thought i'd just take a minute to post a completely useless topic about a problem i have. I'm sick of people releasing CAMPAIGNS and calling them MODs. Maybe i am alone here. But, when someone releases a campaign, with some new addons, do you consider it a MOD? I mean really, what are they modifying. Shouldn't it be taking all the stuff BIS gave us, the config files and whatnot, tweaking the shit out of everything and basically revamping the game unto its own style? That is really a MOD. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

It's just semantics, so who cares.
In fact, when I install a "mod" and it doesn't modify OFP's configuration, it makes me happier than had it actually gone and messed up my config.bin file or whatever. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

That's if you trust the default directory settings used in these mod's install EXE programs. I never do.
Lol....I never trust the default for any exe......I usually have to change it. So a mod is not really a special case of this. They should go in your OFP folder though surely.... http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I always change it to C:\temp2 or similar. Then I examine the contents and, if I like it, I manually move them over to my OFP directories.
The worst thing is that some of these install EXEs have the gall to add an uninstall entry to the Windows registry. This is really excessive!
Yeah but not suprising. Over time I've downloaded about two thirds of the mods for Quake3, and I would say about 25% of those put in uninstall reg info. I don't take great offense to it...been toughned up by loads of mods before http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Grin and bear it Avon http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Actually, with Win XP, I care less than I used to with W98 because XP lets you delete orphanned install data for programs manually deleted.
So, c'mon mod makers. Throw whatever you've got at me. I'm ready!
