Requires SEB NamPack 2.
A simple aircav mission. Play it loud.

Use it as a SP mission. It will work with up to six players in MP, but everyone will need high bandwidth (all those helos, all those bullets).

Thanks to the Avon Lady for hosting it (and for the nice writeup).

After checking Avon Lady's Mom section I saw the mission rated with 3 stars. I thought wow!! It's not very often that Avon Lady gives 3 stars to somebody. Then I played the mission.

- Cutscenes superb
- Intro superb
- music superb
- realism superb

but, I tried to play this mission for about 10 times and couldn't end not at all. Always when the AI squad commander is running to the battlefield the other guys stuck in the half way and don't follow him. When the squad leader is getting shot, the next leader (#2 e.g.) is waiting at his current position for hours and hours and doesn't move a meter. Even when I destroyed all targets and got the green hook for objective completed the squad leader won't call his men to the LZ for extraction. No matter how many survived or where they stuck they NEVER return to the LZ. Avon Lady told me that she could finish the mission, I wonder how. Besides this the atmosphere in Short Straight is very realistic. The squads that secure the LZ are patroling - very realistic. The mortarts and machine guns are very good hidden in the foliage and the NVA units are well placed. It's a challenge to take them out AND survive. It's a shame I couldn't see how the mission ends.
Maybe you DINGER have a hint how to finish it. And I hope too to see more mission made by you.

Well Kroky, that's the first I've heard of such problems, and I must say I'm puzzled; none of the beta testers came up with any problem similar to that.
What I'd do if the problem persists is:
A. Make sure OFP 1.91 is installed.
B. Confirm that you're using the latest version of SEB Ia Trang Valley map
C. PM or email me with specs and specific description of the problem.

If the only failure is your group, the mission should be robust enough to end without it. At the end, just get in the far helo (E end) and hit "take Off Now". Of course, it'll be a lot harder without your group.

I had only a few minutes to have a look but according to what I saw this is a very well presented mission. Thumbs up for the use of the mapAnim command in the intro.
Lot of atmosphere and you really feel like you were here.
I'll give more impressions when I have more time to play.

Well done Dinger

Ok

- patch 1.91 is (was) installed
- I have got the SEB_Ia_Trang_1_00.zip file and did not find any newer version of the island anywhere on the web

And what did you say dinger about a far helo?? (E end??)
Yes I hear helos far away during the mission but there is no helo anywhere waiting for anybody. I really can't help what the problem is.

my specs: AMD Athlon 1200 Mhz overclocked to 1344 Mhz
Asus a7v133 mainboard, 768 MB SDRAM, GeForce 3 Ti-200 overclocked as much as possible without flickering (Core Clock 223 Mhz Memory Clock 447 Mhz) Windows ME, Using Ram Idle in the background for Memory Managing, and applying MemBoost everytime I start OFP.

Ok now I try to specify when the game stucks:

After landing on the LZ everbody gets out and my squad leader goes to the border of the landing zone waits some 1min there and then gives the command to move to the next waypoint. He runs like the devil would be behind him and then stops to wait for the teammates giving the order of hold fire. After that he gives the order engage at will and move to the next waypoint. At this stage the most of the buddies are stuck somewhere in the jungle and radio where are you. Once the whole crew managed to follow the leader to the final waypoint and engaged the battle. But even after destroying all weapons (mortars and machine guns) the squad leader (no matter if #1 or #2 or whoever) just stays on his spot and waits until he gets old http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I run back to the LZ to check out if there is any helo waiting for us, but no. And there is no command or any radio command to call for extraction. The only thing I can do is to run around and kill as much of the VC and NVA as I can but nothing further happens.

Really don't know what to do else to get the mission finished.

- Do I have to wait more time?
- how can the trigger get activated to get on the helo?
- sometimes the 1st objective gets a red cross saying mission plan updated but anyway nothing else happens. When I eliminate all the targets the red cross changes to a green hook but even then nothing happens.
- Is there any other way to call for extraction?

Hope you can somehow help me Dinger!

The extraction is automatic. For it to happen, though, certain conditions must be met (Mission completed or failed -- you had that, and LZ secure -- you didn't get to that part. My guess is that a pathing issue hung up the enemy too).

Okay, run this test:
A. Start OFP:R
B. Load the mission into the briefing.
C. Exit to the main screen.
D. Watch the default mission for the map.
E. It should say "Ia Drang Valley by SelectThis - Version 2"

if it doesn't, then you have version 1.00 installed. As I understand it, pathing was a bit of a problem in the earlier version. This is probably what your problem is. Follow the Avon Lady's advice to resolve the issue.
(You will still get a couple of "where are you?"s during the flanking maneuver, but the staggered column will make it).

Thanks for replying Avon Lady and Dinger.
It solved 50% of my problems.
For some strange reason I had still the old version of Ia Trang installed. (the intro cutscene was from version 2 so it was really confusing.) now the soldiers follow the squad leader better. Only better not very good. I played the mission again about 6 or 7 times and 2 times they got stuck again.

But one problem remains. there is no helo coming!! after the radioman (skylark) is calling for firemissions the fight goes on, I was the last man alive of my squad, ran back to the LZ but there is no helo coming.

Dinger what exactly must occur that the helo would come please be very specific. Maybe I miss anything.

Follow orders. When the commanders calls everyone back to the LZ, fall back. If you are able to secure the LZ (=eliminate most enemies within a radius around the LZ), the helos will be called in. If the enemy completely overruns your troops, so that you are in absolute the only one alive and you have no hope of overcoming the enemy, well you better start hoofing it back home. After about 300 m, the alternate, "avon lady" ending should kick in.

I followed orders

squad commander #2 got back to the LZ and i got back to the LZ #3 stuck anywhere in the jungle and the squad leader call him about 100 times return back to formation and nothing happend. No helos landed. And no enemies attacked the LZ. I wonder why you are writing that I must hold the LZ? There not 1 VC or NVA attacking the LZ. About 3 or 4 squads are standing at the LZ and nothing happens.

I tried to edit your mission in the Mission Editor. But after using PBO tool and placing the folder in the users/name/mission folder I cannot open it because it says y instead of = what is this? is this because of the new OFP:R format? If yes can I convert the files?

Simple. The mission.sqm is compressed. Open the PBO with UnPBO instead of with PBOTool.

Thanks Avon for helping. Didn't know that UnPBO and PBOTool are not performing the same job. Will try.

I am still very sad about it that I can't finish this splendid mission http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Dinger: I even reinstalled the mission again, but the results are the same somewhere after the attack the squad leader just waits in the jungle calling for team members which are lost somewhere. Yes he is commanding to move to IA52 where the LZ is, but no one is going there. Except me http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I experienced something strange: When I delete the saved file under users/Name/Saved/Missions. And start the mission again instead of replaying it, it seems that the soldiers can follow the squad leader better. But still no helo is coming for us.

Obviously I am the only one who is experiencing this kind of problems. It's for the first time that I can't finish a mission whatever I do. (After playing OFP, OFP:R, and about 350 other user-made missions and campaigns for OFP) But i won't give up. I will play around with the editor a little bit and maybe I'll the reason why the helo is not coming.

If so, I will tell you what I found out.

You should delete the would Short Straight folder under that subdirectory before starting over.

Yeah, I don't know what to say. You've got me at a loss; again, you're the only case like this I've heard of.

.fps files contain an image of the game, so if you started with a corrupt map or something weird, you will get that weirdness every time you reload a saved game, regardless of whether you change the mission.
All I can say right now is: A. delete everything related to shortstraight except the original pbo. B. Make darn sure you've deleted the old map following the instructions in the SEB NP2 zip. C. Take the mission apart if you like.
Again, if you want me to take a look at it, contact me via email or pm.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!!!

This is a kicking ass mission, Dinger! I mean I played it and couldn't end it properly and found it fantastic - but now that it works like it was supposed and designed to - i run out of words. The best mission for OFP I played ever.

What was the reason it didn't work from the start? Well, it's a stupid mistake by me. I had all the new files for the new Ia Trang Valley installed, except of one: sebnam_obj.pbo.! I was playing with the new version of island but with the old objects on it. What a shame!!

I remember that I had to switch some files for Ia Trang earlier and somehow the old objects file came into the addons folder.

Dinger cant't wait to see another mission made by you. I will praise your work in the forums! No problems with following the squad leader anymore. Super fast action gameplay, with the most intense atmosphere in OFP i ever played!! Even better than the original BIS missions. AND YES IT DESERVES THE 3 STARS FROM AVON LADY!!

This Mission is a must for everyone playing OFP!

Dinger, Avon sorry for stealing your time for such a stupid mistake and thanks for your patience!

(I will copy this e-mail to the forum topic)

At the bottom line, Dinger: This is fantastic work. And because you are doing it for free: This is absolutely awesome work!

SEB Nam Pack 2 is rocking OFP!!
