View Full Version : Requirements for new ironsight-file?
I am altering the Beretta BIS made.
I own a 92FS and I want to make the one in OFP to behave and look as reallistic as possible.
Bullet-speed/trajectory, recoil, reload-sound, gun-sound etc.
The only thing I got left now is the iron-sight.
I see the Beretta's iron-sight is optika_Beretta.p3d.
Is there any way I can convert this to format Photoshop supports and then back to P3D-format?
Does it have to be P3D or can it be GIF or something?
Any specific requirements for the file (i.e. progressive, baseline etc) ?

Attention .p3d files are model files.
but afaik that are only simply surfaces on what the "optic" texture is placed.

here is a good tutorial that I've seen by baconbomb....
tutorial (http://www.baconbomb.com/modworks/tut_ofp_custom_optics.html)
I'm assuming it works, I don't have photoshop or anything so I can't test it myself. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
there is a tools for changing original texture from a p3d this is : P3D Texture Swap Utility v1.0.2 by ©2001 Mike Schell (m.c.schell@<hidden>)
Texture Swaper (http://www.ofpec.com/includes/download2.php?id=260)
View the name of the texture is used in that optik model and extract file in data.pbo from your DTA folder in OFP path, next convert with TexView utility from BIS into a *.tga, then import in Photoshop.
After you have edited your tga save it in jpg or paa or pac with the same utility and with Texture swaper change the path of the pic. then save your p3d with your name ie: myp3d.p3d.
Let's now the time for coding your *cpp

I used that texswap-thingy to open the optika_beretta.p3d file.
I see there are three files inside it, but I can't see any preview window in that program and I can't see how I can extract anything with that tool http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
okay, I found the file with the iron-sight and the front-sight.
I can't seem to get it to work as tga. Trying to convert them with texview into tga, but they always show up all black (24bit).....they obviously loose their transparancy http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
any ideas?
This topic might help...

But yes I think if you reopen and save a tga you would have to save the alpha channel again from my experiences

Does anyone know how to make the scopes edges blurry in Paint Shop Pro 7? I can only make the alpha channel from black, not from lighter shades, and I can't write on the transparancy. Can anyone help? Preferably, I'd like someone to PM their address and I will send them the bmp file that is the scope.

It seems to me that the image looses its transparancy when I save it as tga in Texview.
I can't see how that thread would help http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
A way around this problem is to simply take a picture of myself holding my pistol. Can the image be in colours or black only?
k Shadow,
When you've saved your tga with TexView, this utility save it with all those you want to begin.
In Photoshop you have to open it as the same (Leave as is (don't color manage)
It open it and when you save it use 32bit insted of 24 then use texview for preview and save it as *paa for Alpha channel. (transp.) - The best is to open it directly in O2 if you have correctly installed it, it would convert your pic automatically. with alpha channel.
24 bits don't work with OFP save it as 32bit.
cya Shadow.
I have seen that you have to define mannually to save alpha channel in Photoshop 5.5 but not in 7th. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Thanks, bud
I'll re-install Photoshop today (with all the plug-ins this time, don't have the tga-plug-in at the moment) and have a look at it again..... I just need to get rid of a headache first http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif Dang these OFP-LANs with "networking essesntials" http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
btw I have PS6 right now. I think I got 7 lying around here somewhere. Do I really need 7 or is 6 just fine?
aaah headache is gone and Photoshop7 installed. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I get the addon to use my newly created p3d but I have a alpha-problem (shows up in ofp as white and grey squares).
The alpha channel check-box in the save-dialog in PS7 is greyed out (disabled) when I want to save my tga. The background of the tga in PS7 is transparent (white and grey squares).
Any ideas? http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
Hello,
When you import your tga in PS7 look on RGB "channels" palets. for Alpha channels is right after you modifie it.
If you want create a new one direcly, delete the backgound "layers" then create a new layer in Layer->New layer (set backgroud as transp.). Next create your pic and at the end create a new channel in "channels" pallets. (the withe is for non transp. and black is Alpha...
