I have read on some PC Game Magazine that Indepedence Lost from BIS will be released in the 1st quarter of 2003 this year so it means before April http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
There was some pictures too but the old pictures that was on the IL site but people from BIS have not confirmed yet on official forums that it will be released in the 1st quarter of this year 2003 so can people from BIS team confirm if this is right http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
Hmm, do you remember the name of the magazine?

Didn't the IL website originally say it would be released at the end of 2002? So maybe 1st quarter isn't too unrealistic, but BIS are keeping a bit quite if its true.

Do you remember how little info BIS released on resistance before it was released? 4 screenshots on the website and 1 or 2 of a bridge? I bet BIS is doing the same thing w/ IL.

I would not be too sure - at least with resistance it was official that the extension would be released. They kept the details for themselfes, but 3 month before the release we all knew it was about to be out in summer. With IL we do not even have any confirmation that it's still being worked on... I'll start getting exited when I hear a confirmation from BIS about it's release, not a second earlier.

I mean No website, no screenshots, no info about if its a sequel or a new game, etc etc.
So my guess is that IL will come but it will take longer time then 2 or 3 months http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
EDIT: i was typing so slow (ok i was eating mean while) that joltan posted the same thing before me http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I would think they would have announced something already if it was comming out 1st Quarter.

i would wait for an official statement from distributor. and hopefully US will get IL as fast as EU gets this time, if it is released.

What I'd like is 2 hours to turn BIS's headquarters upside down looking for info on OFP2/IL. The jail sentence for breaking and entering (and possibly assault if I don't like what I see http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif ) would be well worth it.

what I h8 is ppl putting news in the news section without any proof. We all know that they are working on something, but still I didnt see any1 posting in the news section. Y? Cuz it is not telling us anything new. PC GAMER Volume 10 number 2 February 2003 says

I think that BIS is going to release OFP - GOTY with IL in the USA. That explains a lot to me why they've delayed the American release. It seems to me like OFP was much more popular in Europe and the rest of the world, whereas Ghost Recon was more popular in the States. I think Codemasters and BIS are trying to fix that by giving us Amis the whole kit n'kaboodle at once, rightfully blowing GR out of the water.
Also, alternately, they may be timing it for the XBOX version of OFP.
It would be really nice to hear from BIS once or twice about what they're doing. I miss them. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

CNN is a joke as far as I'm concerned. If I could, I would love to pull a Beltway Sniper on Wolf Blitzer (don't quote me on that) for all the sensationalistic fluff quasi-reporting he has subjected me to in the past. Their reporting is irrelevant, Crossfire is a joke, and the only show worth a flip is Moneyline, and that's only in comparison to the other crap that is on the air. I could care less about any alleged liberal bias or anything like that, that basic fact is that they just aren't any good at what they do. Now, in contrast, Fox is shameless about supplying their particular brand of infotainment, but they are good at it. Regardless about how I feel about the policy they are pushing, they are really really good at it.

Na, Suma just answered a post in a thread today or yesterday... so at least one man's still standing! But then, as long as we don't get any information from BIS on their running projects, we can just speculate - and in that case it's better to educate some geographically and politically hampered Americans, then waste the time completely... http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

It's makes business sense and it's the right thing to do.
It basically says the publisher's job is marketing - not the developers. No company wants to have two voices.
In fact, it's most probably in their contractual agreement. Standard stuff.

Well, ok, i already knew/figured that. Simply stating that making it seem that they are "restricted" from saying anything is retarded. I understand if maybe a statement in a magazine or seomthing could be restricted. But i mean, if Suma, Marek or anyone from the BIS team came on the forum, said something along the lines of:
"People, settle down, IL is real, and it will come in time"
I don't see the harm in that. Its not saying anything specific, it will jsut simply end all the speculation and BS rumors that people are starting and spreading around. If anyone one of them came in this thread, simply posted "Yes" or "No", i would be completely and utterly satisfied. But if Codies restricts them from even that, then that is just ploppycakes.
P.S.
Don't start an argument of contractual agreements or anything like that, i'm just stating my opnion.

I'm quite sure they are working hard on the next patch and also on something new. They are neither dead nor away for holidays. It is a pity there is no comment from the team, but thinking that there will be nothing just because there is no announcement is just stupid.
We all know that BIS and Codemasters keep the news for themselves as long as possible, and while we do not know if the next version will be another extension, a completely new version or if it will be the IL scenario or - as Avon suggested - the Vietnam theme... there will be something coming up, and I'd bet on a summer release and news within the next 2-3 months.

'just even a slight info release' idea runs two ways.
1. it'll keep some ppl happy.
2. it'll make ppl ask more about it.
when OFPR was announced, ppl were making threads and demanding more info about it. before the news, ppl were complaining about not having info, and after info, people were asking for more. so it's like a sea water next to thristy drafter. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

The camel made me think about a possible WW1 addon. I think OFP would be great for that. The only things nescessary to add would be proper artillery, deformable landscape (for trenches, craters, etc.) and a way to fight with bayonnets and spades. Horses would be nice, too...

You guys sure go off topic quickly!
Instead of paying attention to rumours, listen to the facts.
1) Last patch release for OFP was beta. That means another official one is in the works. Obviously it would be possible to go on patching a game infintely, especially in the way BIS have done so to date, that is enabling new commands, not just fixing things. At some point, that support has to stop.
When? It would make sense to me to be on version 2.0.
Would that coincide with GOTY release in US? Good chance IMHO.
2) For the next bit you need to have read 2 things. The interview with Ondrej Spanel, and the last OFFICIAL comref.
Both of those hint at the next release. Roughly paraphasing it goes like this;
"To make your addons compatible with any future product please use such and such code"
In the interview Ondrej highlighted the importance he attaches to addons, and wants to make them a more integral part of the game. He also states they have been looking at vertex and pixel shading technologies, which to me implies a new graphics engine.
In the comref they highlighted a better way of scripting things, again mentioning a future product.
There IS something in the works. But also OFP isn't finished yet.
And I mean that from both BIS standpoint, AND ours. Check the quality of the addons and features that are now starting to be released, OFP isnt stale or dead. On the contrary it gets stonger each week.
Personally I feel that once news of a sequel gets out, some of the enthusiasm for what is currently in the works will cease.
Take a look at the flashpoint1982 site and project as one example, and you will see what a crying shame that would be.
Even if the addons were portable (as they should be), my guess is that players would rather play them on a shiny new engine, instead of coming back to what they have.
That would mean a hell of a lot of wasted hours, for a hell of a lot of people.
So Bring on OFP2. But not just yet. Let us get the very BEST out of OFP first.

You know what would be really cool? If BIS told the addon/modmakers out there something like this:
"If you produce a really good quality add-on or campaign and we use it as an official add-on or campaign, we won't pay you, but we'll give you a free copy of the game/expansion disk and put your name in the credits."
That way, everyone is happy, BIS looks like gods, modmakers get rewarded for all their efforts and the community gets really good official add-ons more often then they used to.
The only downside is that maybe more mods and add-ons wouldn't be released to the general public (maybe betas would) but I think the notion that all these add-ons would be standard throughout all OFP players would be a bonus. They way, when you play a mission with them, you don't have to hunt for a missing add-on or anything like that. And it would give the modmakers some official recognition.

I think I have some quasi realistic info on this.
I had a conversation with someone at some point...let's call him...Mr. Black (obscure Simpson's reference there).
Please bare in mind that this was almost a year ago I heard this...plans may have changed...money may have intruded into the equation..however...
IL was supposed to be a small mini campaign that was supposed to be FREE...it was going to be a kind of marketing tool for the release of OFP2. The idea being..complete the campaign and maybe get a glimpse of what OFP2 was going to be about. IL was going to be a way of showing what was capable in OFP as far as new units and also as a "filler" until the release of OFP2.
Now all this was before O2 was released and at that time there wasn't talk of Resistance....so things may have drastically changed.
OFP2 is going to be a new engine....I'm sure much of it will be based on the pioneering techniques made in OFP1 but it will be a new engine which will not support OFP1 addons I don't think. However...I wouldn't throw out those models and textures just yet...I'm sure...given the success of the addon community so far we will be given the appropriate tools straight of the bat to perhaps recompile our addons with a little effort into OFP2 addons.
I may have just added fuel to the rumour fire here....but I did have these conversations with a credible source. How relevant all this is now I'm not sure.
I can guarantee though, that OFP2 will be a totally rewritten engine...and as such...I doubt it will be backwards compatible with addons.
It would be like buying a Ferrari but making sure it has the capability to put a Toyota Corolla engine in it.

Look at the plus side though...with a rewritten engine they can fix bugs like the swimming bug, new provisions for proxies, more than one weapon firing in a helo, the loading cargo in helo bug, a gunner/bombadier in a fighter jet.
The possibilities of a new engine makes things exciting....even if we can't use existing addons mod makers and addon makers will be inspired by the new capabilities of the engine to not only recompile their addons but also enhance them to exploit the new engine functionality.
What can be wrong with that? Personally...I'd be willing to sacrifice backward compatibility for significant engine enhancments.
Yep I agree with Tigershark, as long as we get the same support as we did with OFP than for better we should always change, even when sometimes it as some downsides.

Well, what I would hope for is for BIS and CM to let the addon and mod making community in on what's going to be.
If addons will NOT be upward compatible, this takes the wind out of the sails of many an addon maker right now. Even the rumor of it does. Why work hard on something that's useless tomorrow.
This is a mature community, both in the amount of time the game has been out and the sincerity shown by those of you who have spent ages just to get a single addon released.
It would be considerate if BIS would at least tell us now:
1. Whether existing addons are useable or not in OFP2 or whatever you want to call it.
2. How, if possible, can new addons be started on and exisiting ones modified to meet any such new requirements.

Heh, a C130
if the addons wont be directly backwards compatable but maybe they have it were after a little bit of editing you can get it in the game w/out having to completely redo the addon.(if IL/ofp2 is still under developement)

Its a security blanket. If we didn't have all this "news" and rumors, we'd all start freaking out and possibly cause harm to family pets.
On topic though, speculation leads to dissappointation (yes i know, just making it rhyme) So i say, whatever happens, happens. If nothing is compatible with the next, who cares? Does that mean you should stop your work? Shit no. If everyone just dropped all this, concentrated on making the best out of what we have now, IL and/or OFP2 would be here before we know it. All I would like to have BIS tell the addon community is:
1. Will their addons generally work in Independence Lost?
2. Is their an "OFP2" in the making and, if so, will their addons generally work there.
These are questions that will simply remove the doubt lingering as to whether it's worth people's major time and effort to continue developing addons at this point of OFP's product cycle.
The doubt itself is damaging. There are no big secrets being given away by BIS answering the above questions.

See, personally i see that as too much to ask. I doubt they would announce such a thing this early. (i'm assuming its early because they still work on the original OFP somewhat) It would be great to hear "Yes, we are working on OFP2 right now", but its not going to happen, and you should face it that it isn't, or at least i doubt it. The most i see being "spilt" about is IL at this point. Like i said, leave the subject be for the most part. A little idle conversation is fine, but sitting there saying "Tell us if OFP2 is being made" surely isn't going to help. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. *cough* Ok, thats the best analogy i could come up with. But what i mean is, telling them to tell us isn't going to get them to. Let them do it on there own terms. I'm sure we will get more from waiting then by asking. Thats just my opinion.

From what I've been able to find out, the WWII RTS, being developed by Maddox Games (developer of IL-2 Sturmovik) and published by Codemasters, looks like it's based on the IL-2 Sturmovik engine, if it's based on anything at all, and not a new engine. The terrain and water effects very closely mirror those to be found in Maddox Games' upcoming IL-2 Forgotten Battles.
It's not based on the Operation Flashpoint engine, as far as I can tell.
Too bad we haven't gotten much in the way of info on upcoming BIS titles...

What's about this formula?
June 2001: OFP CWC
December 2001: OFP RH
June 2002: OFP:R
December 2002: OFP GOTY
(ok, Marketing lets wait the US Boys'n'Girls http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif )
June 2003: OFP IL
June's next http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I was just thinking that Maky, although i wasnt too sure when RH was realeased but i knew that OFP and OFP:R were realeased in june.

It would truly be a coup for Codemaster's marketing division if it turns out that BIS has had Independence Lost finished for months now, and they managed to cover it up. I mean, if CM goes by their regular pattern of behavior.

If its off the same game engine as ofp then it couldn't be that much different. Though in comparison of graphics IL is by far superior.
ofp and resistance have system requirment drastically different. I imagine same for IL

Look in the top left hand corner on this Site (http://www.independencelost.com/) , possibly that will give you an idea of what specs your pc will need to be to run IL (only guessing though, but it does say VBS1 does it not)
Also have you got this article that says release date 1st quarter of 2003 or were you just trying to wind us all up?......
I have to agree fully with Tigershark about the need for the NEW ENGINE this would allow us most of the things we all have been whining for over the last while....

VBS1 has other military modules in it that make it much more complex than just the FPS portion of it.

Just a stab in the dark, but i'm guessing from what i've seen that these "modules" are what we know to be called AddOns. Therefore it isn't much more CPU intensive than Flashpoint is now.

I dont think it is just addons, else they'd call them addons, + we would already have our vbs and even better as we get very professional addons from our modding community.
The unannounced product that BIS is going to release in 2004 according to their website (http://www.bistudio.com/), you think that's Independence Lost? Personally I'm not sure... IL website was put up in early 2002, right? Seems a bit early for a product coming 2004. Plus IL looks a bit too much like OFP, so I think it's an upgrade of some sort hopefully to be released this summer. And the unannounced product coming Q2 2004 - I certainly hope it's a sequel to OFP. I'm dreaming about a 2004 product from BIS... http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Ah... With IL, OFP1 will easily last until the unannounced product is being released. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

On my personal wishlist for the next 1-2 months is either a new patch (I don`t install beta stuff and some of my clan comrades have problems with 1.91: loosing connection in MP games and so on, which I don`t have with 1.90) or an Expansion, no matter how it will be called.

My speculation is that, IL will be released not too far from now, maybe in next 6 months (lol its still far) anyway, Q2 2004 looks more accurate for ofp2 or some bigger project. Yeah,
I think & hope Independence Lost will be an upgrade for OFP and will be released this summer, and that OFP2 is coming in Q2 2004 (preferbly earlier http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif).
Well wow, this is great news. I had no idea some of you dug up details (tiny ones, but still) on a OFP 2! I knew about the IL and was certain it was not dead at all, after seing how long BIS have been making patches for OFP and now Resistance.
So, it boils down to: First we get IL - and it will make us pleased and happy. Then, after a couple patches for IL, the scene turns somewhat silent again, the spots are off and stage empty, but you can still hear something is being worked on behind the curtains..
And that might as well be OFP 2 - with a new graphics engine! The thought alone almost makes me drool.
IL in 2004 ? Not a chance IMHO. Even if it is a completely different game using the OFP engine, it would never take that long as they already have the engine from OFP and Resistance. The latter is just excellent, I love the dents in the terrain in Resistance.
I am pretty sure we are talking about OFP 2 to be released in 2004. If it is, the developers will get their pretty faces on popstar posters on my wall.
I can (I do mean "can", not "can't") wait for OFP 2, let them take their time with it. There will be other games until then, like Stalker (or was it Chaser?), IGI 2 for the fast and furious MP play, Deus Ex 2... (drool).
But when OFP 2 hits us, it will go off like a bomb, I'm sure of it. OFP already got this great community (in it's winter sleep alright but soon there will be a new spring). And no, I've not been smoking anything illegal lately. Sorry for rambling, but I'm just happy to see the community still going strong, and now the "news" about OFP 2. What can I say.. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

*EDIT* Here's the pic:
http://www.virtualbattlefieldsystems.com/screenshots/Maps/vbs1_1025s.jpg
Hi all
I think the pic by IL was probably jimied at the time it is a marketing pic after all. Allthough it could be that they used an algorithm for the water in IL that is based on the marine's picture. Such an fractal algorithm could show similar effects.
As to water effects that is out of date compared with stuff available in particle effects such as the the dust clouds from helicopters, and burning tanks not to mention this great pic I saw of the copter over the boat with spindift over the boat and a wonderfull chopy water effect all caused by the downwash of the copter. Of course it might be jimied too but it does not take away from the fact it is serious eye candy.
Look here at Screenshot for week 53 (http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?sekce=screenshots)
Your finding is interesting as an historical example of marketing but it only predicts what the finished product will look like and indeed has allready been surpassed.

So he means a new forum replacing this one? An IL forum? Doesn't make sense if IL is just an upgrade like Resistance. Me neither, and I'm patient, just curious. They didn't make a new forum for Resistance, and I don't see any reason why to make a new forum for IL if IL is an upgrade like Reistance. That's why I'm thinking it might be something bigger than an upgrade http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Seems weird too, as that unannounced product is coming in Q2 2004 and David mentioned "in the very near future". no-one knows when IL will be released... the one for 2004 is OFP2 so it has to be somwhere between now and OFP2 otherwise it would not be usefull to play a OFP upgrade when OFP2 already is released
IIRC when Resistance was released there were those accusing Bis of cashing in by releasing too many addons too soon, so now there's a gap of 18months or whatever and that's too long? Damn this community is exacting http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Personally while I'd love to see a new official Bis addon tomorrow in the meantime I'm more than happy to play some of the outstanding mods and campaigns that the talented people in this community have been making, don't moan about a gap between Bis releases, join a mod team and support the community that way http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
/Me falls drunkenly off his soapbox http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

This is an very odd situation here.IL has been shown to the public way longer before the OFP2.Maybe IL is going to be the first addon campaign for OFP2.I also think that OFP2 will have alot of the VBS vehicles and stuff in it as well,

How do you work that out? VBS1 is a modern training simulator, with modern equipment, vehicles and aircraft, OFP2 is set in the years surrounding 1970, the equipments/weapons/vehicles are completely different.
I find it to be funny. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/tounge_o.gif

well i don think its funny http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/mad_o.gif because IL is the first OFP game then with a Carrier from BIS so that must be grat job thn and many many more.
If they release it after OFP2, then it will dead sure be an expansion for OFP2.

according to recent interviews from ofp.info and @<hidden>, BIS Austrailia is also going to be involved in OFP2 project. maybe this is why IL is delayed.
I believe IL will be an expansion for OFP2 to bring it to a modern setting, an addition for those that don't like playing in the 70's. At least that sounds like a good idea to me. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard311/non-cgi/Skin/SKIN-2/PostIcons/icon14.gif
Hopefully it'll be out just a few months after OFP2, instead of a year like it was w/ resistance.
and it wont be comming out soon after OFP2 either.

Well if you look at the pics on IL you will see the what I mean.Im not talking about OFP2 being Like VBS.I just think that the units will be there. And about the 1970,Thats is going to be for the OFP2 main campaign. Not IL.It all makes sense to me,But I can be wrong.

Well, even if IL is an expansion for OFP2, if your theory is correct, then it will be IL with all the VBS1 units, not OFP2, i mean, just because OFP:R includes a V-80, you dont tell people that its in OFP:CWC do you?

It's also possible that BIS will be using/stealing East Timor from BIS Australia, then the Australia guys will release a unit pack or something.

Jun 9 2003, 05:43
Doesnt fit in with their campaigns, East Timor is in Australasia/Oceania i think. The vegetation/buildings will be different from Vietnam.
As one of the OFP2 campaigns will deal with some sort of caucasus invasion, which would be positioned somewhere at the end of the 80's or the beginning of the 90's, I think we will for sure see some modern unit's beside the Vietnam setting of the other campaign. Most likely the Afrika campaign will be somwhere in between (early 80's).
But yes, IL will most likely be an expansion for OFP2. I believe that, too.

Quote[/b] ]Operation Flashpoint 2, a true sequel to the million-selling military simulator, will feature three different theatres of combat set in environments across Southeast Asia, Central Europe and Africa. The game’s mission-based campaigns will take gamers through fictional conflicts based upon authentic events during the years around 1970.
From the wording of that it seems all the campaigns will be set during the years around 1970.

I think at the start of IL it will flash back to NAM as the veteran soldier reflects on his days there, the soldier is now involved in the East Timor conflict which will be in more modern days. This is a project worked on by BIS Australia that was going to be before OFP2 but now it will be released after it. As I think it has been rethought to be based on OFP2's engine rather than develope it's own, or use Resistance's. I was going to explain about the link between OFP2 and the soldier in IL but that would give the ending to OFP2 away and ppl would bash me. (Or the info provided to me could be tricksome lies and in that case I know nothing :P)
edit - my sig is mental after the new forums, anyone know why and how to fix?? http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/wink_o.gif

On this website (http://www.independencelost.com/IL/index.htm) it's got a newspaper with the headline "US MARINE PEACEKEEPERS PULL OUT OF EAST TIMOR FOR GULF OPERATION..."
I assume IL will be set during the gulf war, but in East Timor.
This has probably been said and argued over a billion times already, but I don't understand why you guys are saying IL will be in the 70's when we've got that.

Why argue when you can search The FAQ (http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/) for "independence lost" and read the story line. http://forums.bistudio.com/oldsmileys/rock.gif

I had the same problem - simply go into your forum setting and resubmit the info, it should work then...
