"At ease, CorguMolax" http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I dont remember how the score is calculated, but there is a couple of threads that have this info, just now i'm to lazy to find them http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
But the importent is that doing a mission well 'doesnt count'. Many times have i done the missions 'by the book' and still got red crosses. But then someone said to me...KILL! KILL! KILL!
And thats what you have to do. Kill as many as possible. Dont care what the orders are, use every opportunity to kill the enemy. One particular mission that is confusing here is where you and Gastovski meet with the resistant leader at the tower at night. The Gastovski tell you to go to the boat while he will stay put and do some fighting. Well, to get som score here you must obey his order and stay as well, and kill as many as you can before you head back to the boat.
Hope this will help
Also kill high in rank if you kill an officer you more points then when you kill a soldier and killing a chopper will get you more points then a Tank..... If it's is more important too the other side destroying it will get you more points and more silver medails!

I don't get silver medals - I get gold stars.
I also can continue campaigns even if I totally failed some missions as long as I survive and I get red crosses. Never have I been moaned at and I play by the book.

Do you have to be playing in Veteran mode to get gold stars or something? ***Because I play Cadet and throughout the campaign the most I've gotten is 4 silver medals. ***I nail every soldier they target for me plus a big chunk of the rest (if my team doesn't get them), and yet no gold stars? ***

What gold stars. I've got 5, 6 or 7 silver medals in hind attack. I think, that's the best. I destroyd everything moving with my hind and satchel charges..Even, two Shilkas, and the flying hind. AT8 is good for helicopters.
I played as veteran too, but i didn't see no gold stars. Maybee he's thinking about those stars on forum.

No, I'm sure you can get gold stars cause I saw it on the Avon Lady's FAQ. I just don't know how.

Maybee, you should try to kill all moving targets. I mean all. Without team helping. But i don't understand. In Hind Attack i kill everything living and i didn't get any gold star. Mybee you get one, when the game ends, if you were very good through campaign.

To get goldstars you have to play 'Veteran'.
IT is strange this thing about red-crosses and not be able to continue the campaigne.....there are so many different experience around just that that it feels like we are playing totaly different games................?
Some can have as many red crosses they want and still continue, others (like me http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif) can have a few and be kicked out !

I assume it depends what mission it is you are playing.
Some, if you possess bearly an ounch of skill there still is no reason why you should fail. I guess then if you do you then stand to get yelled at. I only ever got crosses for the mission in the tanks when I have to negotiate a mine field (I didn't get to Montignac in time), and the one in which your superiors Jeep is destroyed and your team goes to investigate. I was allowed to continue on both without a problem. I guess if it effects the story line by failing then you have to retry it. Or maybe it only occurs on cadet - because I always play veteran (hence the gold stars I always get).
So it might seem that playing veterains means you can get through the campaign just by having successful missions, ratrher than getting loads of kills?

Anyone ever heard the old adage, there is no such thing as a bad soldier, only bad leaders. Well, the only time Col. Blake ever yelled at me was when I was a pvt and we had to retreat cuz the t80's were inbound. Shouldn't he be yelling at my officer instead of me?

yup! Mostly yes. But if you REALLY screw up then some of the leaders that are in charge of the whole operation wanna have a go at you. (But your nearest officer will probably get some s**t to).

What I really want is an overall rating when you have finished the campaign!!
Maybe with following promotion or medals http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

As mentioned by QUiRKiE, there is a FAQ item (http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/#sp.stars) on this.
I should point out that each mission has it's own scoring goals. I've forgotten which packed file this is defined in but each mission has its own minimum, average and excellent scoring levels.

5 pearls or silver medals or whatever is the maximum in Cadet mode.

If you get many red crosses, I suggest you use tank and helicopter missions to get back in business.
When in the Abrams, I try to do as much as possible without the rest of the platoon. If I for example engage the T72 and BMP in the beginning of Killdozer, I take the BMP first and take one other tank with me to give the T72 a shot. Then, I can take the T72 with one shot and score the kill. So always keep track of how damaged the enemy tanks are. By using tactics, I got my dream score in Killdozer: 2xT80, 7xT72, 2xOfficer, 1xBMP, 1xRPG soldier, 1xMachine gunner, 1xMedic, 3xUral, 2xSoldier, 21xCrew. To a total of 22100 points and five gold stars.
And in the helo, I quickly use the guided missiles to score as much as possible. And don't forget to use every bullet you have in the MG, as it is quite effective against armored targets as well as people. And if there are more helos, just try to be first and use the same "shot count" tactic as that with the tanks. Also, you should use manual fire with the FFARs and 54mm rockets. That will give you more for less, as the gunner would just waste all of them on one target.
Btw, SpaceAlex, BI has fixed the "AT-missile-used-as-AA-missile" bug. So you can no longer target the helos with AT6, Hellfire or TOW.

This is a very old thread, and you can still target Heicopter with any helicopter rocket. Yust, you must know how.

Some short and inconslusive research, showed me that I could target a Mi24 with Hellfires when on the ground. So now I will guess that this can be done with all choppers as long as they are on the ground. And you can not keep the lock, it will disappear if the target takes off.
Then again, I guess that would work in real life too..... Right? And was it another way you had in mind, SpaceAlex?

In real life, you need to have the taget on lock. And, once the target is locked, you can fire. It is possible to hit a chopper with hellfire, because they're auto guided missles. The tanks are moving too, and you fire when you have it on lock. The missle will go in the way you told her to go. So, if you lock the chopper you can hit him with the missle. If the chopper goes too fast and swinging, than he can avoid the hit, but if he's slow and don't know that you have it on lock, then, he have no chances. The rockets are not, like those in the F-14 and other planes for that. They're designed for ground attacks. But still, you can destry a chopper with a rocket if the taget is slow and unexperianced. Well. V1.20 was like that, and this was the right thing. You can hit a chopper only if he is not moving, or moving slow, and if he's going to the direction of the rocket. But this is only availbe in v1.20. Don't know what they remove the future.
Anyway. In real life, almoust no chopper is trying to engage, other choppers with a rockets. All of them are using the front cannon, because, before they would target a chopper, the enemy would destroy him with the cannon. That's the way it is.
I alos, herd, that attack choppers are more dangerous to planes, then planes to choppers. Strange, heh. I read, that some choppers, can detact plane, before he can detact him. He loads the cannon and destroy the plane with no problems. Planes are fast, and it's difficulf for him, to fire the cannon. Chopper can swing with the cannon and can destry him, quickley.
