Hello everybody,

I'm looking for resources on infantry and combined arms tactics on the Eastern Front - my ultimate goal is to create realistic portrayals of smaller pitched battles within the framework of IF44. The scale of the engine lends itself to especially realistic scenarios, and it would be great to have some sort of accurate reference on how both armies conducted smaller-scale operations (for example, capturing a village or establishing a defensive perimeter). The small details make all the difference.

Would anyone happen to know where I can find these kinds of resources? Maps, sketches, example scenarios, etc. would be incredibly helpful.

Some of the information here (http://forum.iron-front.com/showthread.php?394-Historical-Resources) should be of use to you.

Probably some books written by veterans.

I was thinking of something like this (free of course :) )

Have a look at the page excerpts. Basically, maps showing how infantry and mechanized units would attack/defend small-scale areas.

WW2 Infantry Tactics (http://www.bayonetstrength.150m.com/Tactics/infantry_tactics_of_world_war_tw.htm)

Best I could find. The 'Small Unit Formations' link takes you to what you need.

The 'Combined arms operations' page is down, however, I found it archived here. (http://web.archive.org/web/20090201093445/http://bayonetstrength.150m.com/Tactics/CombinedOps/combined_arms_operations.htm)

I also found a bunch of WW2 US Army field manuals that cover tactics here. (http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/ref/FM/index.html)

Great stuff there RknHarry. I added those to the 'Historical Resources' topic in the IF forums.
