Hello All
First off i'd like to say well done to BI. This has all the makings of a fab fab remake of one of the best games ever made. I'm saying this on the basis that this is the beta, that there'll be a lot more content etc... in the final version but in short I'm loving the first pass. I was there playing scramble on my C64, then Barbarian on my Amiga (love the sound of a synthesised rubber band for the bow ;):D), then CCand Elite on my Atari!! So I really love it when studios remake the classics as they should be made.
I'm sure you've seen how Egosoft have done a phenomenal job updating ELITE into probably the best space strategy game ever made. I think CCGM could be the same for CC, especially if they focus on the depth of the game. All we now need is an super update to XCOM-Enemy Unknown and we'll have all the kingpins of strategy gaming... :bounce3:
Some questions/suggestions:
1. Agree with other posts around the position of the main gun on the ship. It would be great to have 360 traverse like original. Love the other guns tho.
2. Think the free-roaming nature of the original was a big part of it's success (like other posts have mentioned) and really adds to the strategy requirement of the game however understand if the engine just doesn't support this in time for release. Maybe for v 2.0 next year??
3. What's the heli-pad at the rear of the carrier for? Or is that a surprise for the release?
4. Agree that the manta's are not great to control in the air and have the durability of maybe blancmange...:p Having said that, you do get used to the controls and have to use them properly. ie. you can't just fly over a load of AAA - you have to work closely with the ground troops so maybe this is a good thing.
5. Agree with the comments around the enemy carrier being powered by di-lithium crystals and basically dis-apparating if when it wants to... (joke) it is fast though and perhaps needs to be balanced.
6. Are their plans to introduce research trees to research weapons to give you an edge against enemy plans/walrus's? ie. upgrades to the carrier guns? cruise missiles etc...? Cloaking tech?
7. Think the "Assist" option works really well for the Walrus's - they really support each other as they advance against different enemies. Top job. Not sure if this works as well with the Manta's tho.
8. It would be good if you can set a "Combat air patrol" for the mantas. I don't know if the "Attacking" stance is the same thing but it would be great to have a patrol option to fly top cover.
That's it for the moment. As i said, these are not criticsms - I think this a great great start!
Great job!
