The last few weeks we’ve been collecting your questions. Today we’re answering 5!
1. Will there be infantry in the game? (metalcraze & ProfTournesol)
Yes, there will be infantry in the game. The enemy (Asian Pacific Alliance) makes use of soldiers and several types of droids. Also, during some of the FPS missions, you will be assisted by teammates. However, you’ll not be able to control the droids/soldiers like you can control the Mantas and Walruses.
2. Will Carrier Command be released on Steam? (Krzysztof Jeffrey Krzyszczak)
Yes, we definitely plan to release the game on Steam.
3. Will I be able to design my own units? (Luboš Muknsnabl)
Not in the sense of designing completely new units, but as you acquire and manufacture new items and upgrades, you will be able to heavily customize each unit with different armors and weapon loadouts.
4. Will there be multiplayer? (PvPscene & MadDogX)
The multiplayer will not be present in game upon release. However, we would like to add it as a patch or DLC afterwards, but that is something for the future. Right now we are focusing solely on perfecting the singleplayer gameplay.
5. I think it would be cool if the A.I. of the Mantas and Walruses would work just like in the original Carrier Command (i.e. they don’t shoot automatically and only move to where one tells them to). So my question is, is there any chance of that happening? (Gus Tavo)
In the earlier development versions we used to have something similar to what you describe, but after some experimenting we decided to go with something that fits the current gameplay standards, yet is still challenging.
To elaborate, at the moment, units under player control are either in idle mode or in ‘plan’ mode. They can be assigned a defensive or offensive stance.
When in a defensive stance, vehicles with a plan (i.e. destination), move directly to the given waypoint and will only engage hostile contacts that are within reach of its course. They will not deviate from their course to pursue enemy units. An idle-defensive unit holds its position and only reacts when it’s fired upon, trying to defend itself.
Setting the offensive mode means that idle units seek out targets around their current position and destroy them. This can be useful for things like guarding the carrier or clearing out the last defences within a base. If you set a waypoint (plan) for a vehicle in offensive stance, you give them an order to search and destroy enemies along the route. This might be handy if you want to clear the way for weaker units.
If your question isn’t among the 5, it is probably because we’re planning to answer it in the future. Also, new questions are always more than welcome!
