View Full Version : Take on Helicopters: Addon Request Thread

It would be really nice to see if TOH could get a comparable amount of "Community love" in the form of Mods and Addons especially since there is so much potential in editing the flightmodel and new engine features making awesome things possible.
Therefore here is the TOH Addon request Thread. :)

Same rules as in any other Addon Request Thread.

The first request comes straight from Jay: Zombiemod! :coop:
:D

I vote all the way in for "4 in 1" proposal!

TOH civilian flight simulator, second mod proposal, Vietnam FPDR

That would be fine if the proposal would be for today's Vietnam but I bet that is not the idea right?

Attack helicopters! Actually, if somebody feels like converting the entirety of Gunship 2000, Novalogic Commanche, and the old sim HiNd to TOH, that would be great. :bounce3:

Mostly, I'd like to see ToH become the chopper sim I always wanted Arma2 to be!

So what ? It's an addon request thread. People are free to request what they want, be it a flying sausage or a Vietnam mod.
If TOH is following the ArmA path, the game can be whatever you want it to be, that's what is so cool with BIS games.

OT:
Don't exactly know how far it goes in the vanilla game but some sort of coast guard mod would great. Basically this idea (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=125993)

Being a former Helicopter student pilot, I'd love to see a Schweizer 300CBi and maybe a Robbie. Wouldn't mind an Enstrom, either.

Personally I want to see more civilian helicopters before we start blowing things up...not that I have a problem with that... :)

Or maybe the good-ol Eurocopter EC135 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurocopter_EC135)? In Europe they are the standard workhorse for emergency-medical, offshore, police and army purposes.

Well, and for scenarios: Think about Singapore or Hong Kong!

P.S.: I got to admit, I am from Germany. :)

me wants : realistic mountain terrain scenery where we can work our mountain rescue folks into the bitter cold of night. with ground crews. pilots uttlilising FLIR, joint operations with those ground crews on skidoos, animated snowboarders, ski'ers, piste bashers. Avalanche surveiliance & rescue. Ski resort expansion duties (heavy lifiting) , cable car repair/rescue, sightseeing. camera crew filming, and well what about an ALTIPORT ! a functioning mountain airstrip.

Thats an environment i would like for Take on Helicopters, make sense ? Ive done some terrain for A2 before. but populating the scenery was another thing. But i would be interested in making this idea come to life. very interested ! with alot of knowledge of these real life areas.

Jeez Dwarden, didn't BIS already received enough "love" from this community (ok, ok I know, "love" and a thousand complains:rolleyes:) , what do you want, buses organized from all around Europe packed with people raving BIS personal each time that someone goes in or out the office? :D

Nope, use proper PBO Tools, like Mikero's PboDLL: http://dev-heaven.net/projects/mikero-pbodll/wiki/DePbo_Project

What happens is that, in my opinion (you know, I also have the right to say that a mod request sounds "funny" to me), it is sad to waste human hours to model military helicopters in TOH environment when TOH flight model will be implemented in ArmA 3, if you want to blow up things ArmA 3 will provide you plenty of opportunities you only need to wait a little bit.

By the way, You are playing SAR4 in Win7  ??? mmm is your joystick working fine with the game?

1. you can be certain most addon makers are making whatever they want to, rather that what is desired and written here in the addon request thread
2. One can start now to create models and have them ready by the time A3 is available...
3. ...especially for models that won't make an appearance in A3 (which from my POV, will be a lot of).

If modder wants to make a military model it is a waste of human hours to share Your ridiculous opinions online. Stop Your rant already please...
Arma won't have TOH level complicated features implemented as It was already stated by BiS. If You want to blow up things in TOH just load default "light" us army version helicopter and do so. Aw wait BiS! Issac things that model is a waste of human hours...

Back on topic:
I am looking forward to first complete heli model to be done as it might convince guys from hovercontrol to try TOH and hopefully start making us a couple of nice addons!

Vietnam mod all the way;)
SamB AGREED!!!

Reminds me of the search and rescue games!! kinda

This game (TOH) is the closest I have come in a long time to the fun I had with some of the oldies... Not sure why some of the things they had even back then does not make it into a game of this caliber! Such as... rain on the windshield with working wiper controls... basket retrieval of people in the water... dropping a diver into the water and retrieving him with sling...smoke...(unless I have not got to those parts yet.. I appologize)
I know that this game isnt all about rescue but to me it is the most fun... taking off, traveling to the waypoint, landing or hovering , retrieval, getting them to the hospital and then returning home. Much more fun then... on approach to a waypoint having some stuck up passenger yelling "CAN YOU GET A LITTLE CLOSER" "I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING FROM HERE" makes me want to open the door and push them out:D
Anyway here is some links to some youtube videos of the oldies I mentioned if you all haven't played or seen them. Maybe some one can mod us up some good old Vietnam MedEvac FUN! (with guns) :yay:

Both actually had a pretty good FM for how old they are... windows 95/98 2002/2003 ish

Oh yeah can someone mod out the whinning sound of the turbine? sure it sounds great but I like flying with the external camera sometimes but that whine gets way too much to handle... just me? or is everyone a fly from the cockpit only kinda player? I enjoy looking at the helos and the surroundings.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeoHAdhZ5jw&feature=related wtf 1:27 airplanes!!!!
How bout some airplane traffic..( am I missing something?) I mean this is Seattle... Sea-Tac /Boeing Field/ JBLM.. I live in the Puget Sound Area so I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to this area... I wish I could mod but I don't... All the modders out there have made alot of the games I play alot cooler!! keep it up!

SamB
Oct 31 2011, 01:46
Yeah SAR: Viet Medevac was a blast! I spent so many hours flying it. I'd still play it if i could configure the game so i can use my df:pro as rudder... Physics were really great at that time. I remember it had a bunch of great missions. If we could get anything like that in TOH with multiplayer it'd be like a ultimate game for me...

Sikorsky X2 Technology helicopter

Sikorsky video of the Sep. 15, 2010 test flight during which its X2 Technology coaxial-rotor helicopter demonstrator achieved its 250kt speed goal. Conventional helicopters cruise at around 150kt. The X2 reached 260kt in a shallow dive as is expected to exceed 250kt in level flight once a sail fairing is fitted between the upper and lower rotors to reduce drag further.

X2 uses a single T800 engine to power both the rotors and the tail-mounted variable-pitch propeller, which provides forward thrust to enable the high speed. Other technologies include fly-by-wire flight controls and active vibration control. As the video opens you see a full-scale mockup of Sikorsky's proposed X2 Light Tactical Helicopter in the hangar.

A helicopter similar to this and not 'never seen in a game what do you think?

So, I'm not a modder, but I have had a little experience with OFP and ARMA editing to understand the basics of scripting etc. Unfortunately my skill is mediocre at best. But my idea, I think, is a pretty good one...

I was thinking about how clever the subtlety of the mission system is in Take On Helicopters, but how it can leave the player feeling a little empty of 'purpose' after the story has ended. It spawned an idea that might improve on the 'post end-game'. I got to thinking about why I should be saving for choppers after I bought the initial ones and upgraded them. For a solo pilot, there's a point of stagnancy on my motivation (other than flight entertainment, which is a given.) for why I should repeat another 'emergency' or similar style mission, when I already had all the chopers I needed. Which really only leaves free-flight.

But imagine if there was an ability to buy a slightly larger airfield (or 2) that could house more choppers and allow for more advanced business options. Including the ability to hire AI pilots and assign them to one of the available mission types. Now there's a real reason to work hard for my money, while still enjoying the flying, but also working on a much bigger picture. I can work hard to get a fleet of choppers that I can assign pilots to, then get them to earn for me - in real time, alongside my own missions. I think this would also give the world a more lived-in feel as other birds are flying around you. Plus the larger income would be needed to upgrade airfields etc too. Then you'd have to pay the hired pilots (skill dependent would be cool), and also maintain all the aircraft that they (and the player) are using.

I understand that the ARMA engine isn't so great for multiple AI scripts on the fly, but even restricting the player to a maximum of 10 or so hirable pilots, would still add something to the gameplay. Plus, a couple more really nice and expensive choppers for that continued drive to upgrade the fleet etc. I know that modding new helicopters isn't tricky for the community, having seen how amazingly the community modded new stuff for ARMA(2).

Question is, is there a modder (or group of) out there that could run with this idea and make something workable? I'm happy for anyone to take this concept and use it to their own tastes. Coz I'd love to be able to play a mod like this and I just wouldn't know where to start. :P

Anyways, I hope it's also an idea others would find enjoyable too. Kinda like SimCopter meets Transport Tycoon.

Maybe others could vote on whether or not it's worth doing, from a gameplay aspect.

Peace!

it might be fun to fly as a 'plane guard' attached to a carrier group...maybe a whole series of missions including ditched pilot rescue, mine sweeping and ASW hops in all weather and time of day scenarios - HH60-H and/or Sea King helo's would be welcome -

All requiring a host of Naval ships and at least one carrier...so - yeah 2 weeks?

SO, um I started a thread with the following post in the mods/modelling forum which I am informed now that I should have posted it here, I apologize to the Mods and you can delete that thread or whatever magical thing you guys do ~ :)

Hello !

Is anyone working on a mod to correct the inaccurate representation of the helicopters in the game (that B.I obviously had to do to avoid having to deal with official licensing issues with the IRL manufacturers, IMO I am OK with this tactic)

But the awesome community can now fix these inaccuracies and since I can't do it, and have not seen a thread yet concerning the issue I thought I would start one to get the ball rolling... ^_^

Everybody knows sauser can't fly, or it's called a frisbee

just joking :D

On a more serious note, this might be a nice addon to port :

It's using part of WarfX Blastcore, don't know if this might be a problem

Volevo sapere gentilmente se esistono gia' dei forum non ufficiali dove poter scaricare nuovi Elicotteri per ''Take On Helicopters''.

I wanted to know if there are already gently unofficial forums where you can download new helicopters for Take On Helicopters.

the a2 websites such as armaholics would generously host those, if there would be any.

I for one would think about creating some if Bis would actually do as they said prior to the game hitting the virtual stores and release some sort of samples and proper documentation for their new changes. i really don't have the time and patience anymore to find those by trial and error anymore...

I have to agree with the Vietnam addon, Vietnam was the helicopter war and this is just perfect for it. I know people say that this is a civilian sim, but sorry, I see it as a rotary sim, that way we can use it to sim all aspects of rotary work. Also just because the aircraft modelled is a military aircraft, that dosnt mean you will be blowing everything up, most military heli ops are ass and trash missions, but still fun in there own right. Apart from Vietnam, I would love to see,

Off shore transport, ( flying the puma from Scotland to off shore rigs etc )
Full air Ambo career,
Full police heli ops career,
Power line repair,
Search and rescue. ( would love to see the seaking here, the daddy of sar ops )
Ranch work.

Too be honest, as helicopters work in almost all lines of work, the list is endless, BI has a Hugh chance here to make a difference in the world of heli sims, the potential for DLC and addons is Hugh, but only if they can get the intrest out there. The thought of heli that has the amout of addons ala ms flight sim, is a dream come true.

I watch with baited breath, and hope this works and dosnt crash and burn.

Since I love to play Swat missions or similar, I request a Policecar replacement. Its Seatlle, so the copcars shouldnt be some strange looking skoda with a nonworking Blue/Blue lightbar.
THis is how a Seatlle copcar should look like.

But hey, there are some cool Crown Vics available for ArmA/2 so, maybe some cool dude can make a Copcar replacement.
That would make me happy and I can enjoy my CopPilot missions more.

THank you in advance.

PS: Its allready possbile to use the ArmA Vics in TOH, but just as a placement no working lights and not driveable.

Hi community,

I am loving my time in Seattle with the Larkins, but i feel it would be nice if i could expand my heliport from 3 helicopters to could hold 6-8 helicopters instead. Or the possibility to buy another heliport at a different location...

Does any of you know if its possible to mod a solution, and if someone would be willing to do so it would be great :-)

Thanks in advance,
regards

Hey guys, somethign Id like to see and I thin its FINALLY going to be possible. Proper fast ropes, Zip lines, and Grappling hooks. With the inclusion of A2/OA content into TAKE ON. I know there are a few Fast rope mods that never quit looked proper, close but not perfect. With these added physics, Im hoping a talented modder can give some some sweet things to do with ropes.

Even more ideas,

3d scopes (using render to texture)

this game is so fricken cool!

Take on already has fast roping, which also works on the vanilla A2 helis although the positioning is a bit out on most except the chinook which comes right out through the centre hatch.

I thought I heard that the ropes in TOH were not MP compatible. IS this true? That could put a damper on that project but everything else should be doable soon.

Any sound modders out there? I've given it a try and failed terribly. I'm hoping to get new sounds for the light heli, closer to the MH-6. The best example I can give is the one that J.S.R.S has created for Arma2. I'm going to get in touch with him but not sure if the process is the same for modding sounds with TKOH or even if you can open the PBO's at the moment.

Obviously I don't expect the helicopters to work without the config work, but do the units/environments transfer to Take-On?

would be interesting to see missions randomly generated during freeflight and would certainly add to the feel of the game where upon receiving certain contracts (such as Police and SAR) that those tasks then appear, this would make managing fuel much more vital as it would play directly into the game and would allow for a wider range of methods for earning currency after the campaign has finished.

certainly though; fire, transport, medivac and police missions in lieu of "Sim Copter" would add to the dynamic of the game.

Is there any chance of an MV-22 Osprey showing up in ToH? I love flying it in A2, and it'd be nice to be able to do missions in it that don't involve being shot at. =P

That said, since it has such a different flight model from a normal helicopter (Is it even classified as a helicopter in the game engine? Or is it considered a fixed-wing aircraft?) because of the tilt-rotors, my hopes are not high.

Still, this would be about my favorite thing ever, in this game. So is it even likely/possible/etc?

PuFu
Sep 27 2012, 10:29
should be possible, yes. is it likely: by the amount of content released for tkoh (as in very little) i'd say it isn't.

AlloyRabbit
Sep 27 2012, 22:18
In a bout of desperate curiosity, I found the MV22 in the A2free pbo files and copied some of them over to ToH's addons folder. Among other things, I'm now able to fly around in an osprey in the editor.

Sort of.

It seems to be using the default A2/ToH control schemes even though I have my own custom ones set, and the physics are nothing short of wonky. The model and animations and landing gear and hover mode (that is, locking the nacelles in the vertical position when auto-hover is engaged) all work properly, though!

Unfortunately I have no earthly idea how to go about tweaking it to work better with ToH's flight model and get it to plug into non-default controls.

Oh, and there's no sound. Though I don't much care about that right now. =P

AlloyRabbit, do you know that the latest patch contains "Take on Helicopters: Rearmed (http://takeonthegame.com/take-on-patches-downtown/#more-3421)" which lets you combine Arma 2:CO with TOH so you can use Arma content and maps in the TOH engine with the new clouds etc. ?

It makes all the units playable in TOH with almost no errors :)

AlloyRabbit
Sep 28 2012, 00:25
I wasn't aware. That sounds promising, though. How might one go about doing that (with the Osprey specifically), exactly? I'm kind of a noob =P

PurePassion
Sep 30 2012, 00:15
It's actually nothing more than installing the patch which includes the TOH:Rearmed modifications :)

You can then use all the Arma content and units (including the Osprey) in the TOH engine and maps. Though it will still use the Arma 2 flightmodel.

Thanks, guys. I've been messing about with it for a little bit, and there's just one problem I've encountered so far: The Arma 2 vehicles refuse to gain or lose altitude without increase/decrease thrust inputs (which only work as long as you hold them down; let go and your altitude stops changing. This only works with the key/button ones; analog inputs for thrust don't do anything.). Any idea what might cause this? Auto hover on or off, helicopters can remain quite perfectly stationary. I can even go get a sandwich with the osprey in the air (in auto hover mode of course), come back, and still be flying.

Is this a bug with the physics engine or something? Or maybe my controls need tweaking?

Edit: If it's any use in diagnosing my problem: the A2/OA helicopters' controls are affected by the "aircraft" control sets rather than the helicopter ones, and inputs for flaps on aircraft that don't have them cause the game to crash.

Is it possible create mod with crew chief or second pilot functions? I want see text message with distance and height to waypoint or cargo.
Like "next waypoint 1 km" "cargo 2 mm left 3 m down" or something like that.
First to correct slow down. Second to slingload missons. It is hard to fly alone in expert without navigation help. I know that in real slingload missons crew chief helps pilot to orientate.

Are you asking for someone to create a 'MOD' for WP in single player missions? Or are you asking how you would go about making one?
