The Take On Helicopters Pre-Order Beta rewards those who’ve pre-ordered the game with a generous batch of early-access content, playable above a huge section of the Seattle terrain!

The beta will be available for those who’ve pre-ordered the game from October 4th, while the full game itself now has an official release date of October 27th! Check out the full details and some of the latest screens shots below.

i have preordered for a long time and only found out about the beta access today via a news site. so as it's recent news i'd guess that all pre-orders made before the 4 Oct get beta access. Why would BIS cut off a a potentially increased revenue source?

I got an email when ordering (like you) and then I received another email when payment had gone through shortly after.

If you did not get the payment confirmation email then the payment most likely did not go through. Hope that helps.

Just login on sprocket and click account maintenance. Here you should see Take On pre-order in the list with the S/N on not available. Below this you can also view your order history and if you correctly made the payments.

The Pre-Order Beta is only in English, but there is full Czech localisation planned for release, October 27.

A full list of supported languages will be made available at launch.

As i understand it, 27th October is worldwide release date. If you buy through Sprocket (http://www.sprocketidea.com/joomla/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=sprocket.tpl&product_id=47&category_id=16&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=2) you will receive the download link at this date.

Yes it does. It also checks the integrity of the files, when it is resuming the download.

Try the other mirrors aswell. I get the best rate on the US server although i'm in central europe. Also remember that actually quite a few people are trying to download the beta.

The way the ToH comm prevs and beta release have been handled should be a model for all gaming companies. There is no better way to fire people up for the game, get some constructive criticism and suggestions along the way, and of course, make some $$$ via the pre-order. You can't use the manual links when using sprocket at the same time, it's from the same server. I'm using an ftp-client, works much better.

As already said, i'm done in less than 5 minutes and you can have my bandwidth then. :p

On a serious note, i don't know why it doesn't load faster at your side as here it loaded constantly with ~1600Kb/s all the time...from the US server while living in central europe.

Just switch the mirrors to see if one of the others gives you better performance.....or use the direct link as it was also suggested.

Strange, I also had full speed on the direct links. Did you try FF7? I downloaded the direct links with FF7 which was all good. Do you have any download manager software installed which gives an error for trying to download the links? Might want to disable that kind of software (if installed). And just in case, try adding the sprocket website to trusted websites. Also, if you've been logged in too long on the sprocket website, your authentication is not good anymore and the download links don't work.

You might want to check with the poster on the previous page who downloaded direct from FTP. I believe the log of the BIS downloader has the connection info to the server, you might want to try that.

Good idea with torrent file for the future. Eagle Dynamics with DCS A-10C did this and no problem with download of DCS. Till now was 9 patches + some of betas before. Sometimes it was need to download all the sim again (5Gb). Always too is online activation with CD keys so it safely.

You could also offload 99% of the content (in an unusable way, i.e. not complete pbos but just leave out every 100th bit randomly) into a (possibly even public) torrent and then breathe life into this zombie file with a small patch over sprocket. Similarly, Steam allows preloading content so it's not totally overloaded on release day.

Got game today and started on Expert without Trim on mouse and keyboard -failed badly. After switching to Trim and Trainee- its alot of fun tho somewhat easy to fly save landings. Gotta get a joystick I guess.

Overall, seems fun despite the lack of shooting -a much more sublime experience.

Got game today and started on Expert without Trim on mouse and keyboard -failed badly. After switching to Trim and Trainee- its alot of fun tho somewhat easy to fly save landings. Gotta get a joystick I guess.

Overall, seems fun despite the lack of shooting -a much more sublime experience.
If you have a dual analog USB Joypad, I would recommend trying to fly with that instead of keyboard and mouse. :)

Well I don't see a thread for n00b questions so I'll just ask here:

For some reason, when I start airborne such as in the training fly thru the hoops flight course -I can never regain control of the beast as it just continues to want to roll right and trying to correct it by going left just picks up the nose to fall into a rear descent. Is this correct behaviour?

The reason I'm puzzled is I can control the heck of the chopper with same settings (Trainee/Trim Auto) in the PMC mission -easily navigating thru skyscrapers etc...

Is it just a tougher chopper to control or the fact that Im starting airborne and already rolling right?

I have also problems when the mission start with a flying helicopter. The problem for me is that once the mission starts the current input of my throttle (collective) is not recognized. So I have to move the throttle up and down and than it kicks in (usually the helo starts to descend quickly). I continue to add collective until the heli stops descending. It's always a bit of a battle the first 5 or 8 seconds, with also some right rolling tendency you describe.

Are you using a throttle?

In freeflight I usually start with the collective (throttle control on my joystick) about half way up. Then I only need to move it a little bit and the collective is instantly changed to that position and I can make small corrections to stabalize the heli. Works pretty good for me.
