Absolutely loving the preview. Just curious what all of you out there have setup and running for Take On Helicopters - CP.
I've got:
Logitech G940 HOTAS - This is very useful, especially with the pedals it's very easy to set trim.
TrackIR 4 - Yay! More degrees of movements!
22" Monitor - No 3 screens....yet
In the latest revision (http://takeonthegame.com/download/community-preview/) (83244), we've added some logging of how the game detects your connected hardware peripherals. We're working on better schemes, default mappings and solving compatibility generally. If you could help us by posting the log results in this thread, together with the description of your setup as you've been doing, that would help a lot.
Depending on your OS, the RPT should be at Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Take On Helis Preview\takeonpreview.RPT
The relevant section looks like:

Hey Dice, i'm thinking of splashing out on a G940 too, can you tell me what the FFB is like for TOH or other flight sims.
Based on the majority of review's out there, the feedbk has been quite positive regarding the FFB.
It's not really a huge deciding factor as i think without it the G940 pkg is still relatively well priced.
*I also wonder how many of us with Flight sticks etc fly with the Joystick between their legs (using some kind of custom bracket etc) or use a desk mount with the stick to the side or in the middle?
If your a helicopter fan i'm guessing the obvious?
My spec:
Office Desk setup
24" Monitor
Saitek EVO
No pedals
Thrustmaster FLCS + TQS HOTAS (SWF22 modded)
I have no room for pedals so I use the antenna pot
on TQS for that, works great.
TrackIR 2

I use 2 small bed tables, on the left and right side of my chair so my stick and throttle are at legs level. It feels quite natural. I've tried putting the joystick between my legs but
1. in order to make it work properly I'd have to modify it
2. I already have a joy stick between my legs (can't make it work with any games tho) :D
I just don't understand how some people are playing with their joystick at mouse/keyboard level. Using your mouse with this setup is really unpractical and your arms are standing way to high, doesn't feel natural to me and...it's tiring :p

The FFB on the G940 is really good. The stick, throttle, and pedals are very smooth. You can also adjust the tension on the throttle and pedals. I absolutely love my G940.
If you do get it, be sure to download the drivers from Logitech. The device will actually show up as 3 different controllers, so it might not work good in all games. But most flight sims allow multiple controllers, so there should be no worries there.
I don't have the stick between my legs, I tried it once and felt pretty awkward. I actually play with it sitting on my desk. I tried the stick and throttle on my sides and really liked it, but I need to get a good, sturdy mount.
Another good thing about the G940 is you can hard-mount each peripheral as they all have screw holes on them.
Cheers Dice! yeah i think i'm gonna get one, it's in my price range. I think TOH will be worth the investment (hours of play i hope?)

Yeah my cyborg-evo is taped to a small lamp shade table (about office chair height), it's a bit cheap but it does the job, cant fly with the stick to one side:confused:
BTW: chk- http://www.simhq.com/_technology3/technology_188a.html
For center stick mount desk bracket solutions. Might get one?

Those desk brackets look like they'd be pretty good. But they are damn expensive as well! I'd rather create a mounting system myself because it would be much cheaper!

Saitek Cyborg Evo, Logitech G700 mouse and G510 keyboard, Xbox 360 wireless pad, TrackIR 5 and triple 24" HP monitors.
The Cyborg needs retired now as it is a bit sticky to move from centre position and makes it a tad awkward to fly precisely, I will probably try chalk or graphite powder first as I have grown fond of it over the years and don't really want to part ways.

Thx for the update. My controls:
Logitec Wingman (pretty much an antique by now).
CH Pedals.
For the joystick I have set up switches to enable/disable manual trim, action menu up/down/selection (for airplanes I would use these for aileron trim, but in Arma I fly with mouse+keyboard, as I'm primarily infantry grunt). Num 5/(and stick button) resets view orientation, and ctrl num 5 also resets view position.
Not in use: CH Yoke and CH Twin Engine Throttles (6 levers). I also have TrackIR but don't really use it.

currently using keyboard/mouse because I'm just now learning to use the joystick. credit this sim for that lesson !
Depending on your OS, the RPT should be at Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Take On Helis Preview\takeonpreview.RPT
For Win7 it should be at
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Take On Helis Preview\takeonhpreview.RPT
Alternatively use rptmon (https://sites.google.com/site/macsarmatools/rptmon) and just browse up a couple of directories to find the ToH rpt file.
For my X52 Pro with throttle and pedals (and a few other things) the report contains...

Hello Community,
First post here, mentioning in particular for the other guys out there that bought a Saitek X-52 for their flight sims. Obviously this is relating to a few posts I've read about ARMAII interacting oddly with the mentioned model.
Apologies in advance if I missed a post about this, but the only thread I had found I was unable to access. locked??
That being said, this is for the Saitek X-52 model.(not the pro)
Initially I read individuals were having particular issues with their game crashing when attempting to remap the controls to their flight system. I have confirmed no issue on my side remapping any controls. (Again, reading that it may have been resolved in a software update) prior to me purchasing the game.
Initial config, everything worked excluding firing any weapon from the vehicle requiring me to reconfig the trigger function to fire.
Tested in single-player editor to check quick and worked great.
Then restarted the game and the settings were then gone.
The X-52 & Arma II configurations went through automatically the first time. However, upon the second launching of the game the controls were lost and I ended up being forced to manually re-configure the aircraft controls.
No problems at all when setting throttle + the Y-X-Z Axis + changing firing trigger again.
In case anyone is lost.. I was using in game mapping vs the profile editor from Saitek.
Re-mapped eject key, get-out + landing gear up + down, lastly flaps up & down on the 3 switches on the bottom of the joystick. I found it was best to set the eject to occur when the tab is pushed down. Seeing that as I was getting used to the flying I would ocassionally find myself plummeting 500+ into the ground and it was much faster to push down on the switch then to lift up. Saved me many-a-time.
So, having happily re-mapped the keys and able to fly significantly better the the WASD config prior I am content with current settings.
However, there is one area I would like to see if others have had any luck in.
I may have overlooked multiple times the ability to re-map locking on? I was trying to config the trigger button 1 to lock on if possible and when pressed fully to then allow the selected weapon to fire.
Anyone out there with a similiar setup that wouldn't mind giving a little bit more input on this would be much appreciated.:)
Best of luck to others that had similiar experiance!

I find the controller settings aren`t satisfy yet. Can`t we just have similiar settings like in all other flight sims? Here is a picture of Rise of Flight response settings:

I use the G940 to fly in ArmA2, but I didn´t test Take On CP yet.
Has anyone using the G940 ever experienced any problems with the pedals?
For example different intensity of yaw left/right, or a yaw to left/right even if the pedals are centered?
I did recalibrate the pedals in the profiler, but after some time in the game it seems the pedals are losing their calibration.

No problems with my G940. How tight do you have your pedals set to? If they are really tight, loosen them up a bit.
Also, I'll be posting my config soon, I just have to get around to it.
i use a MS FFB2, seams ok just like in ARMA II/etc

I'm just using an old Logitech Dual Action game pad. Looks like a PlayStation style controller. Used it for flying in Arma2. It worked well for me in Arma, but didn't think it would be of much use in TOH. Turns out, it's not bad. Collective control is so-so, and landings are sometimes ugly, but hovering and maneuvering about is pretty good. it's not "realistic" but for $10, can't go wrong!
Ah sorry, was not aware that the section was non public.
I dont have the picture on a site elsewhere atm.

I've just swapped my good old Fox 2 Pro for a T 16000M, both Thrustmaster and very sturdy.
I have gained loads of precision with the new joystick.
Very Happy...:)...
Regarding controls. I use the TMW and i have noticed as with arma2 the switches on the throttle control does not function in the preview. Also notice that not all buttons on the stick works. This is a quite cumbersome workaround with scripts that most pepole wont want to go into i think.
So far i have mapped the start up procedure to the HOTAS, but i hope all the inputs can be used at a later stage.
E.g. id love to have APU switch on my throttle working, in stead of having to click it with mouse.

I have the CH pedals and they Are great for fixed wing, not so much for helicopters. The slide type aircraft pedals are difficult to use for heli's because you have to slide the pedal using leg movement rather than toe pressure.
I'm working on two sets of controls right now, a budget setup and something a little more in depth.
this is my in depth setup made from all aluminum:
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k385/zentaos/PEDALS.jpg
http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k385/zentaos/PEDALS2.jpg
I'm trying to keep the cost under $500. My aim is between the desktop joystick and full simulator. The box height is specific to work with a standard computer chair to put you in a seated position closer to a real helicopter. The cyclic will then be positioned at proper height between your knees so that you can have a good "weld" between your forearm and leg. The real world heli pilots will understand how important this is to making the fine control inputs required to fly the real thing.
I have the CH pedals and they Are great for fixed wing, not so much for helicopters. The slide type aircraft pedals are difficult to use for heli's because you have to slide the pedal using leg movement rather than toe pressure.
It's also possible to block the slide of the Pro Pedals and only use the toe brakes (use them like car pedals). Or are you talking about yet another different movement for using the pedals?

Yes, That's better than sliding, but still not very realistic. Helicopter anti-torque pedals are interconnected. when the left moves forward, the right moves back.

These are in the mail. I should have them by the end of next week. Cost me a cool 2 grand . I plan on using them for training students using X-plane and the Dreamfoil R-22 that I played a role in helping to develop. The combination should be very very realistic, and in this tough economy, I think helping students save money on flight training and maximize their skills in a low cost environment will be a good move. I might be able to lure a couple of students away from the bigger flight schools that are all about keeping rotors turning to generate more $$.
They may also make Take On a much nicer experience too! ;)

Mark from Rainman Sims here, I have been doing more R&D over the last few days and I expect to have the new prototype H300 version of the collective ready in the next few days, as soon as it is done it will be going into a commercial sim environment for testing along with the sports plane version of the helisim, the sports plane version has toe brakes type rudder pedals instead of the tail rotor pedals, I will post the photos just prior to packing it to ship
