Why Winzip?

Why does Arma 2 use winzip, I want to play it but don't have anything that can open it. I had the trail version of winzip but it expired about a week ago.

Does anyone know of any safe, free winzip? Like one I can trust to not be a virus? I really want to try this game, but it used a zip file so I can't even download it.

Windows Vista/7 can natively handle .zip files.

Erm, my ArmA 2 has a installer which handles all extracting. Also i think to remember that ArmA 2 uses .gz compression.
