View Full Version : Vehicle Mirrors
Please consider adding reflections in the mirrors of vehicles for drivers. having a mirror on a humvee that does not serve its purpose is pointless imo.
The benefits are obvious and will greatly increase immersion and realism.
Thanks

Take on Helicopters (another upcoming BIS game) will support RTT - the tech essential to make mirrors workable - and BIS have already said that the technology could find its way into other projects.
I think working mirrors for Arma3 are 99.9% likely to happen. :)

That would be great, especially for servers that do not allow 3rd person while driving a massive truck and needing to back up...

BIS is going to blow us all away this E3 when they show off some footage. :D

Yup, and not just with Arma3. Carrier Command is said to make an appearance too, and the screenies I've seen of that also look pretty damn awesome. :)
Good times for BIS, it would seem.

Mirrors! Mirrors! Mirrors!
:yay:
Sounds good for me, but not for my PC. :D

Fuck that PC, we will all have to get a new one.
Sounds good for me, but not for my PC. :D
Will RTT increase the burden of PC obviously?

It will certainly increase the burden on your graphics card, but exactly how much is dependant on the implementation. For one the resolution of the render target will play a role. For vehicle mirrors it will generally be quite small, but things like water reflections may need much higher resolutions.
There are more factors, but the discussion is rather academic at this point.
If you have a powerful graphics card, you will probably be fine.

I agree . It's a much needed feature . Also RTT can be use to simulate MFD's inside vehicles , that way CROWS can be simulated properly .

You better hope our programmers don't catch you saying that! ;)

I think we should rephrase it as:
It will be easy for addon makers to add once the BIS team have bust their nuts and spent months in therapy getting it to work.
BIS team, your time spent in padded cells and straight jackets is much appreciated.

If RTT tech is implemented, I'd like to know how it will be exposed to addon makers and scripters. :)
For example, it will probably be possible to define mirror surfaces and other kinds of RTT use cases within materials, but what about the scripting side?
Will there be something like hiddenSelections, except that the selection can accept real-time rendered data from a camera? This could, for example, be used to create a TV monitor that can show anything a mission maker wants, like a security cam feed.
It will be interesting to find out what BIS has done in this area.

Now I see some nice MP Briefings where the whole Squad sits together and watches some Live Footage from the AO on a huge Plasma

But there will be plenty to complain about regardless of what they show I'm sure.

It's not in 1080 p . I won't buy it , it's not realistic . Kthxbai
RTT has been wanted a long time in these games. i do really hope they get it implemented in ArmA3.

Keep your fingers crossed but don't get your hopes too high, otherwise the crash will hurt that much more. Don't get me wrong I would aboslutely love to see RTT but I'm very skeptical considering this is becomming a key feature in VBS2 and TOH isn't used the same way Arma is therefore there would be no 'threat'.

one of them was with mirrors ;) and we get RRT in arma3, so its like
this i believe.
i like how the mirrors are shaking when the engine starts. like in real-live.
if that is in arma 3 all is good. i mean we are talking about a game we
have already buyed isnt it so.
i am waiting and playing arma2oa/ace2/acre and PLING its 2012

Maybe we could get mirrors to look around corners?
I remember seeing that in 'SWAT2' back in the good ol' days XD

Working Corner Shots could be a possibility as well.

good idea. It'd also be good to change the angle of the mirror, I've always wanted to check myself out whilst driving. I think this would greatly improve the quality of gameplay and my own sense of immersion in myself.

For Take on, we've created a system which prioritises the resources: priority rtts (such as an in-cockpit monitor required by a particular mission) and ambient rtts (such as a mirror).
Currently, none are ever disabled, but ambient rtts will scale with your graphics settings, as they obviously do suck up a fair share of power.
Unless any one can officially confirm otherwise, I wouldn't expect to see any disco-balls in your Hamocs :yay:
Best,

No, I'm afraid they were outlawed following the great fluffy-dice purge of 2016.

RTT for Take On Helicopters has beed confirmed a long time ago (for example on its Facebook page with vids), there hasn't been any confirmation nor denial of RTT for Arma 3 :icon_twisted:
