Sickboy,
I have Six Updater installed on my PC and about a dozen large mods installed via it.
I want to install it on a new PC I'm building for my brother. Is there an easy way to set it up on the new machine so that I do not have to re-download all the mods?
IE Can I just copy the mod folders and the pac files across or something?
Thanks

ScottSure, just copy over the modfolders, pack folder if you have it set elsewhere, and backup and restore the SU settings if you want to keep them:

Hi, it already is; http://stats.six-updater.net/mods/show/a3029582-c40f-11e0-92ef-001517bd964c?_method=get
You can find search options over at http://stats.six-updater.net/mods and from within the Six Updater desktop client.

I have noticed a nice decrease in load time for Sixupdater, once it loads it runs very smooth and fast. These past few patches have been excellent. I will say Sixupdater ,to me, is a must have for ARMA2. It makes downloading, managing mods so easy. Thanks again for all the work you have put into this. (BIS really should consider this or something like this for ARMA3)

For some reason if you duplicate a profile and edit the new profile also the old profile is edited making the new profile obselete and the old profile mutilated. Is this a problem i can solve myself?
Also im looking for an easy way to find out what mods are on SU

Hi Sickboy, the new performance improvements are really great. But could you please disable the -showScriptErrors option by default or at least explain how default options could be disabled?
It is really annoying because at least half of the maps seem to have script errors. So it is a great option for map developers and they should use it much more often but it is annoying during regular gaming sessions.

Using 2.9.5preAre you referring at Mods from the official network or from CustomRepositories?
ServerModsPath is only used for Mods that are downloaded from CustomRepositories http://www.six-updater.net/p/communities.html, not Mods from the official network, required by servers.
Duplicating official network mods in separate folders for SinglePlayer/MultiPlayer, or even per server, seems to server little purpose.
In any case, if a server with CustomRepository mods defines it's own ServerModsPath in the customrepo configuration, then the client's global ServerModsPath is overriden by it.
However the user can still force a path by setting the ServerModsPath directly on the server record in the Server Browser. ServerModsPath field, available when you scroll to the far right.

Referring to official mods. The problem is solved (usually happens when i post about it!). I made changes in the "wrong" game profiles place; in the top one, not the one available in the main window. If that is understandable.
Seems like the only way to make a new profile "stick" is to right click in the main window when "Game Profiles" lower tab is open? A little hard to explain with all the duplicate GUI stuff :)
And thanks for the very swift reply, SB!

NEW QUESTION:
I'm looking for a fully automated server fed by SU. I can make the update run automatically, but it stops as long as the server.exe is running.
Anyway to force SU to take down the server before update?
My server control panel will start it up again. Or at least thats my plan.

SU can both stop and start the server, either from the UI, e.g confirmation dialog when running instances detected, or you could e.g use as startup paramter --execute=kill,install,startgame

Is there a way of doing this? That is what is supposed to be happening. When su detects you run a server, and have optional mods, it should add those mods as Special to your preset, with "incl" field set to *.bikey and thus only download bikeys.
Hover over the mod in the preset tree on the left to review status.
Did you try to run install/update? Did it not download just the bikey?

All looks perfectly fine. Run install/update, and you shall find the modfolder is NOT included in the startup line, while the bikey is the only file downloaded, and if Process Bikeys action is used, properly installed to ArmA 2\keys.
Ah but BlastCore_Visuals, try removing it from the preset in the treeview on the left, I think you might have added it manually to the preset, which takes precedence.
Also make sure blastcore_visuals is not included in the required mods list.

Hi Everyone
i have a question.
probably noob question..but as i wrote in the title i got exactly this message with six updater v2.9.5pre1: you seem to be running an old game version, latest: 1.60.0.87580 (your version: ), please get game update at:.....
i'm running steam version arma2, arma2 oa, arma2 co. i did the steam update.
i tried with game manager, downloaded and installed latest beta. nothing change.
on bottom of screen in red it says A2 op. Arrowhead (Combined Ops).
i read previous post disable the dedicated server checkbox up top but still got this message.
i'm wondering if this is why some of the mods i'm trying to install appears in black...but surely i'm wrong. I'm not so confident with mods.
Thanks to everyone in advance.

Can the auto-updater for SU start up SU again after updating? I can't tell you how many times I start SU, it starts to update then I completely forget what I was going and forget to update my mods since SU isn't running anymore. heh
Also having an icon on the taskbar while the splash screen is up and the program is loading would be helpful as well. Sometimes it takes so long during that update that I forget it's running (since another window has covered the splash screen) that I start it up again and kittens cry.

Fed.Hi,
Please make sure your games registry entries are in order, check; http://six.dev-heaven.net/Six_Updater+FAQ#Paths (Game, mods, pack etc)
(especially the part about separate combined ops installations).
Then restart SU.

Sometimes it takes so long during that update that I forget it's running (since another window has covered the splash screen) that I start it up again and kittens cry.Currently not, i've still got to dive into the (limited edition) InstallShield specifics, as a short inspection didn't reveal a way to handle this after performing a minor upgrade.
A major upgrade on the other hand does have the option at the end to start the software, however this procedure is more involving because the software is fully uninstalled and reinstalled, with the confirmation dialog "Remove configuration files" included as well.
Anyway, it's on the list :) https://dev-heaven.net/issues/28031
Icon on the taskbar during startup, while I suppose this is against expected windows app behavior, due to the length, considering auto sync with portal, and gamespy may occur as well, i'll see what I can do.
Perhaps a small pre-launcher with progress and status output appearing within few seconds of splash screen, including taskbar icon could be more in line.
https://dev-heaven.net/issues/28732
BTW, I cannot reproduce issues when trying to start up SU, over and over and over, while the splash screen is shown.
SU is actually designed as a single-instance application, and should not be able to be started more than once, while if an SU instance is already fully started, it actually responds to the startup-parameters given to the 2nd/n'th instance :)
Could you describe your experiences?
Thanks!

Ok, yeah, when you start it and it's in the "splash screen only" phase you cannot start other copies. No matter how many times I spammed it, nothing duplicated or anything. Didn't seem to take much more RAM and didn't seem to take any longer to start up, so ignore me. :)

Yes, userconfigs are never overwritten, the user can manually handle upgrades, or run the "Process Userconfigs" action, which will restore the userconfig files from the modfolder.

Does the latest pre 2.9.5019 do anything different with the display/display drivers? I'm using nvidia drivers from october, which have a problem with (pretty much only) Firefox when it runs in hardware acceleration mode, because the GPU is constantly powered up and down and Windows thinks the driver has crashed, and reboots it. It seems that the latest version of Six Updater somehow does a similar thing with hardware acceleration, and within moments of auto-updating it crashed my drivers (a problem I hadn't seen since it was only related to Firefox).
Is there a way I can roll back to the latest stable?
Any information about this, and if anyone has experienced similar, would be great. I've only just started using Six Updater again in the past few weeks but hadn't had any crashes with it.

Six Updater is WPF-based and utilizes the GPU/DirectX to render, this has been the case since the initial SU v2.0 release, over a year ago.
If you are experiencing driver crashes, there's something wrong with your driver, videocard or system, I recommend fixing the actual issue instead.
I reckon these issues can also occur if you are using 'special GPU utilities', like Radeon Pro, GPU Meter Gadget, older TS3 overlay plugins etc, probably also Overclocking etc.
Why not upgrade beyond the October edition? They're almost half a year old?

Is there a commandline trigger the I can use to disable all kinds of dialogs in SU?
I use a web based control panel to update my server, and it runs SU with a path to the .exe + the needed commandline. Somtimes the update stops because SU has a "question" for the user, but there is now way to answer when SU is remotely triggered; I just se the dialog standing there in the update log of the web based control panel.
Something like a -nodialogs f ex. ? or -justupdategoddamnit ;)
Which dialogs do you get? You can Disable various dialogs by going to Options, and either Ticking (checked), or Unticking (unchecked) options like AutoStartApps, AutoConvert, etc. As in Indetermined state (greyish-checkedish), these options mean: Ask the user.

Hi all I need some help.
I am using latest ARMA 2 beta version and when I do an update in SU and then tick the beta box and create a desktop short cut.
If I launce the game via short cut and look at bottom right of screen the beta version never matches the version I installed.
I deleted all versions of the old beta but still six dont see the latest version I installed.
Please advise.
Thanks
Try to delete the beta folder, it resides in the expansion folder.
Also remove any arma related folders and files from your VirtualStore folder (C:\users\yourname\appdata\local\VirtualStore)
Then reinstall the beta with SU and try again. Also make sure you recently synchronized with the SU portal.
Hi thanks for the reply.
I did delete the BETA folder BUT I did not delete the files from the VirtualStore folder so will try that all so did not synchronize SU so thanks will try that ASAP.
Still no luck.
I deleted old BETA
I have looked in C:\users\yourname\appdata\local\VirtualStore and I have nothing in there (show hidden files is enabled)
And I have resynced SU but still shows an old version of ARMA in SU not the latest version.
SU shows 89223 and when I start ARMA it to shows 89223 I have created a desktop short cut in SU BTW this is how I have all ways done it but now it just dont work :(.

Thanks for the reply. I was using the drivers because my performance was good with them. Actually, in the days just before I posted nvidia released some new drivers which have probably fixed the problem (no crashes with them since installing) but I hadn't got around to updating.
There was nothing wrong with my particular system, unfortunately this problem affects anyone with a recent GeForce card and any drivers from last year through February this year. Specifically, it's an issue with Windows 7 and how it monitors the GPU, when the card powers down for power saving, sometimes W7 thinks the card drivers have crashed, and reboots them (known as a 'TDR' problem). I guess the process is similar when using Six Updater (card powers up and down a lot when switching views/idling).
Might be important for you to know for future reference! Also, a fix would be to allow software rendering.

Cheers!
According to http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jgoldb/archive/2010/06/22/software-rendering-usage-in-wpf.aspx
you can disable the HW rendering yourself:
You set the global registry key. E.g.:
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Avalon.Graphics]
"DisableHWAcceleration"=dword:00000000 )
Otherwise I could deal with a setting in the program;
RenderOptions.ProcessRenderMode = RenderMode.SoftwareOnly;
I suspect the issue affects other WPF programs as well so seems to make sense to disable it globally instead.

I've been curious why when SU updates it uninstalls and reinstalls the entire program insted of just updating the old files?
and also why you're not allowed to close the program when its 'busy' other than ending prosess?

Mar 13 2012, 08:37
It only does an uninstall and full reinstall for Major Upgrades. Major Upgrades are sometimes needed to replace files that have no changing Version id's, or other major changes.
Minor upgrades are the ones usually performed, and these just deal with changed files.
Dealing with MSP's (patches) I find too cumbersome for the time being.
You may not exit when busy because it would have unforeseen consequences, data corruption etc. Close anyway on your own peril.
For starters, any changes made to settings or records applied during this session, will be lost.
Some actions, like executing the updater actions are cancelable. Press the abort button and then exit gracefully once aborted.

I wanted to see is an option to remove a mod was going to be added. When I install a mod SU seems to have this information and when I remove the mod from my arma game folder. SU seems to just reinstall the mod all over again. AFter I removed the folder from my game folder.
If you have an option to install the mod. Wouldn't it be nice to have an option where it would remove the folder and mod from SU. I don't mean completely remove the mod from SU. I mean just so that it shows as not installed.
The idea is I been wanting to try some of these other mods. I didn't really want to have to install all of the mods. And I'm thinking about another option to add, Some thing like a script helper into SU. This is for users who need more help when it comes to scripting for ArmA mission editing. It's just I been finding some samples in Arma and they don't all ways work in ArmA II. This is why I got Arma Gold. as a learning tool. It just that there's scripting options I just don't under stand.

If you dont want the mods to be reinstalled, you need to remove them from your preset. (As thats the whole point of Presets)
If the mods are required by other mods or by selected server, you should really want to have those mods installed anyway.
But if you really want to force them so they are not reinstalled even if they are a dependency for other mods,
go to the Mods tab, and check the Disabled column for said mods.
Scripting support/helper is out of the scope of the App, but the scope will broaden alot in version 3.0, so let's see.

Thanks, Sickboy, I know. I asked and I will keep my fingers crossed.
Having a hard time finding documention for this so i'll just ask here.
We have a rented server with FTP access and we just finished putting together our own modpack with different mods/islands and tweaks.
I don't know where to go from here. How do I specify what pbo's etc that six updater should download and so on? Do I just load up the server with our mod pack and it'll recognize all addons and then when a user wants to connect it'll download the needed files?

As a response on the question what are the plans with Six Updater for ARMA 3 / SU 3 (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?98609-SIX-Projects-Updater-Suite-Portal-Config-Browser-etc&p=2123769&viewfull=1#post2123769):
Plans and Prototypes for SU v3.0 are still in the Design phase, what I can divulge at this time, is the following:
The Six Updater team has grown from a one-man-show with some helping hands, to a team of 6 people strong, consisting of 3 programmers, 2 UI/UX artists and an analyst.
We will be deploying Behavior Driven Development - incl a pinch of Agile, CI
All libraries and applications will be fully unit and acceptance tested, documented, and API's and Command Line Interfaces should be top notch.
First class UI / User Experience / Usability is paramount in the next generation of Six Updater
Infrastructure is being improved and expanded, we are looking at Peer2Peer possibilities as well.
We are looking into community building features. The SU portal will be completed renewed, and a tighter integration with the Desktop client is planned
We are looking at possibilities to integrate with the game
We have far more in the works, but we will reveal in time.
Wow SB that's great news. What you achieved on your own with this was pretty amazing, but I am glad you have found a team to help you out.
Integration into the game along with six browser is the next logical step and it makes a lot of sense for this to become the official launcher for Armaverse. I mean look at the amount of support questions here, on the Steam forums and elsewhere that are regarding startup issues, loading betas, mods and missions. Most of these questions can already be answered simply by saying 'Use SixUpdater'. If people had it from the start (i.e it was actually also the Arma/ToH installer) then a lot of these questions would simply never be asked!
Well done mate - you did something quite brilliant with this product, long may it continue.
Looking forward to the v3 UI changes. As much as I love your launcher (I can't even imagine the countless hours of work that must be behind it, BIS should adopt it!), the UI could get some work. E.g., more easier selection (tick/untick) of mods to use etc.
However, in the current version, I have a feature request please - in Server Browser, resized/moved columns do not save their layout upon next launch of SixUpdater. I have meticulously resized and moved the server info columns to show the important information in full and leftmost, but upon next launch, it reverted to default sizing...[Windows 8 C.P. 32bit]
New build released taking care of some issues with TS3/ACRE: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?121729-A-C-R-E-Advanced-Combat-Radio-Environment-1-3-Stable-Release-Thread&p=2128048&viewfull=1#post2128048

I have a question, I am very much a noob at Six Updater, so bear with me :D. In order for the Six Updater Portal to have the latest version of an add-on, is it the responsibility of the add-on author, or the responsibility of someone like Sickboy at the SU Portal? I ask this because a new version of MCC Sandbox came out a few days ago, and it has not appeared in the Six Updater yet. I realize that people are very busy and such, but I just didn't want to go around bugging the wrong person to update it since I'd much rather download it through SU than download the new version manually. Thanks.

Heya - Currently it's my job, but the plan is still to make it manageable by authors as well, probably at v3.
If you like you can notify about new updates or mods to add at: http://www.six-updater.net/p/support.html

Take on Rearmed now fully supported, with few caveats until next update:
https://dev-heaven.net/issues/30329#note-9
Up on auto self update!
Thanks for the update SB. For my own interest only, is there any reason why you put the beta files in "beta_toh" rather than just "beta"? Confused me for a while 'cos I had the beta already and had added my own Rearmed profile! All sorted now, I just wondered.
Secondly...
I have been adding Arma mods to the ToH folder using the windows junction command for re-armed. Is Six going to be able to sort out which are Arma mods and which are ToH mods and put them and get them from the right place? Currently I am adding mods manually to the shortcut line in the profile for re-armed, but it would be good to be able to select them like we do with Arma and ToH - if only to get six to work out the dependencies. At the moment, it seems that Six wants me to install the Arma mods again in the ToH folder for re-armed when using your new game profiles.
I get the feeling that ReArmed might make life a little more tricky for you!!

There already is a beta modfolder for A2 Original's beta. Perhaps in the future SU'll support colliding modfolder names (cross games) :P
For the mods, you can do multiple things:
- Make symlinks per modfolder
- Set the TOH game profile's ModPath to A2 / OA
- Move all modfolders to a common location (say C:\mods) and use that as Global ModPath (in the Options), so you don't need to worry about it in any Game Profile
I personally use option 3.
Perhaps supporting multiple "ModPaths" at once could be an idea, but perhaps more trouble than it's worth :) (ticketed; https://dev-heaven.net/issues/30461)
I think SU supports Rearmed pretty well. Game, family and edition support is actually very flexible and future proof :)
some more improvements coming later, while CBA and ACE rearmed updates will be available tomorrow.
Moving the mod folders to a common place is a good idea - I think I will do that - all this symlinking is looking messy! I can't see a real need for multiple mod paths except for when Arma 3 comes out - probably want to keep Arma3 mods separate from Arma2/ToH. Unless it can traverse sub directories so you have c:\mods\arma2, c:\mods\toh, c:\mods\arma3, c:\mods\carriercommand (the last one being wishful thinking!).
I am impressed with the versitility of Six. I could run rearmed from the moment the beta was released. I can run all flavours of Arma (including PR) and ToH just by selecting a drop down box. It absolutely amazes me that people are still asking how to use shortcuts and switches!

Move modfolders in subfolder and you have to symlink only that one. :)

I've just updated (build 2.9.5030) and now in standard ACE preset I see CBA_A2/CBA_OA and it offers me to install both, but I have CO and can't remove them from preset, it says:
13:48:14: Please confirm: Are you sure you want to remove @<hidden> from CUST - A2 OA - A.C.E.
13:48:16: Didn't find @<hidden> Perhaps it is a dependency for another mod or selected server
What should I do?

I moved all my mods to a central folder (I:/mods as it happens) so that I can make use of them in both Arma 2 CO and Take On Helicopters : ReArmed. After doing so, I had a small problem with the Hinds DLC for Take on as it was now expecting to see that in central folder rather than in the ToH folder (which is as you would expect). So, I had to symlink Hinds from the ToH folder to the central folder and that got it working.
My central folder now has all my @<hidden> mods and all my @<hidden> mods and a symlink for Hinds to it's location in the ToH install folder. Six now works well with all the different flavours and I don't have to mess about with lots of symlinks or have multiple copies of mods.
Just thought I would mention it in case others are doing the same thing.
Lastly a quick question.
What happens with the 'userconfig' stuff? Do I need two copies for common mods, one in the Arma folder and one in the ToH folder?
Sickboy
Apr 16 2012, 11:54
Good point about DLC's - but don't they load automatically as OA auto loading PMC and BAF? I guess thats what makes it work in OA, but perhaps makes it fail in TOH? Did you try not specifying the DLC? :P
Userconfig stuff - good question. I guess do what seems best for you. I personally would keep seperate userconfig files, and if anything, perhaps symlink some of the userconfig subfolders, like ACE, from TOH to the OA variant.

I am currently keeping two copies of userconfig, so that's fine - they are tiny anyway and rarely change.
As for Hinds, ToH only loads the expansions automatically if you don't specify a -mod switch. If you specify a -mod switch then you have to load Hinds as part of that switch. So, if I don't add Hinds as a mod in Six then Hinds doesn't load (as I have other mods loading via -mod).
Not an issue for me as I have it sorted, but others may be confused.

I checked that page a few times, looked up .yml/.yaml setup, but that's the thing. I'm not fluent in web design and know nothing of it,
It's not even a webpage I'm setting up, I'm just using XAMPP to set up an FTP IP server so that I can, lets say, use this link in six by "Importing Server" so that I can download my custom repo/modpack
"sixupdater://127.0.0.1/TacticalKillersUnit.yml" for localhost, or"sixupdater://176.61.92.149/TacticalKillersUnit.yml" for external players.
Also, where is the skype groupchat on the website? Can't seen to find it on the side.
--Edit--
Got it working, however now the Download is on 0 B/s from my own FTP,
Anyway to increase this?

I need a bit of help with the server launching tool. For some reason I can edit most values in the server tab such as password but I cannot fill in a name. When trying I get a flashing cursor for text entry but the text box doesn't respond to any input from my keyboard. Because of this I have no way of finding my launched server other than over IP. I've searched here and have not found an answer. Another question for when I get that resolved. Is there a way to make an admin password (not a server password) so I may log in as an admin to chose a mission, etc?
If you want to use Six Updater to launch a server, you should read up on and create a server.cfg (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/server.cfg) file and enter this file name in SU, Game Profile, config field. You can edit the other startup parameters (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma2:_Startup_Parameters) in the Game Profile section as well. Also enable "Server" checkbox at Overrides or in the game profile.

Now i only have OA profiles and manually switch my 1 A2 profile i have with the use of the top bar if i join an A2 server maybe this is not the way to do it... This works basically the same since the dawn of SU:
You have Presets and Game Profiles, and you can select for each preset which Game Profile should be used. On either Ribbon Preset Tab, or just the Presets tab.
In this case, "Clear" the Game Profile override on the Home RibbonTab to make the one in the current preset active.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Thanks for the fast reply.NP. Yes that's possible. If you enable "Server" checkbox within SU, if you launch the game through SU it will launch the Dedicated Server.
You can configure the startup parameters (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma2:_Startup_Parameters) on the Game Profile tab.
Seems they wont allow me to run programs from the server...*Sigh*
So i re-read pretty much everything on that link you gave me. This is what I've done (must be wrong)
Started Six updater.
Created my preset im going to "push" to server
Click "advanced mode"
Goto "preset" tab
click on "upload preset" on the far right,
It then asks me for the remote folder (which is my FTP address?)
and a "Pvtkey"? (left blank)
Clicked on Push preset and....http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/6347/31151252.jpg
Obviously i know i didnt add any kind of password to access the FTP but where do i do this? and is this even the right way?
Thanks for you help :) << newbie

Lol wow that was easy. Thank you so much :D
Quick question? Does this upload from my PC ? or from the download links like your downloading straight from SU?

---------- Post added at 20:27 ---------- Previous post was at 20:23 ----------
Funny detail - I released the update to reduce some of the Exception storms im receiving at times (amongst fixes and exception message improvements), often caused by broken installations, dependencies etc....
Though I think that failed updated there actually caused one of the biggest so far! :P
Decided to change the Mod folder so they don't clutter my A2:OA installation directory. I've existing mods installed in it.
When I change the folder to e.g. "D:\Games\Arma2 Mods\", then all Mods in the presets to not appear green anymore but blue. I understand this is expected, changing the configuration does not move around the files. I move them manually, call "Sync with SU Portal" and they're found again and are green.
However, I'm using the A2:OA Beta and the version number and path/arguments and the very bottom are now red and read:
A2 Op. Arrowhead (Combined Ops) 0.0.0 | D:\Games\Arma2 Mods\expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe -nosplash -skipintro "-world=empty" "-mod=D:\Games\Arma2 Mods\expansion\beta;D:\Games\Arma2 Mods\expansion\beta\expansion;D:\Games\Arma2 Mods\@<hidden>"
The path "expansions\beta" is still in the D:\Games\Arma2\ folder, where the beta patches get installed. How do I properly fix this?
thanks
Sickboy
May 12 2012, 09:35
Also move the expansion\beta to the mods folder, or simply run Install/Update.
Also move the expansion\beta to the mods folder, or simply run Install/Update.
Thanks, I felt uneasy to do that, because (afaik?) this came from the beta-patches itself; won't this interfere with further patch updates?
Sickboy

No the beta patch is separate patch, not related to official game patches. You can put it anywhere you like.

First implementation of server queuing system added! https://dev-heaven.net/issues/31336
If you select a preset with a server, and enable the Server Monitor up top.
At the bottom of the server monitor is a checkbox "Auto-Join", and a combobox where you can select minimum required free slots (1-20 currently).
As soon as the required slots are available, SU will execute join on the preset/server.
At this time you need to count on the amount of time the game needs to startup, so don't put the required free slots too low.
Hopefully soon we can improve on that with background loading of the game.
Also queuing on multiple servers, with priority and other filtering requirements is planned for the near future!
Hopefully especially useful to all you DayZ players out there trying to find a spot ;-)
As soon as the required slots are available, SU will execute join on the preset/server.
Is there any kind of indicator that that this is active, when I'm doing it? Just so I know it is "scanning" or whatever in the background?
I'm just asking, because this feature is currently very very well hidden and will surely only found by people reading exactly this message you posted. And still then you don't see any indication that it's actively doing something in the background.
Btw, thanks for the feature :)

Tired of manually updating your servers? No time to check and restart your server?
A new feature is incoming for Six Updater, specifically aimed at Server admins.
You will be able to monitor for updates to Mods in your preset, and optionally close the running game/server and auto-update to the latest mod versions.
Once updated, optionally it can restart the game/server.
Your server will be updated and back up and running in no time, with zero effort required, enjoying SU's differential updates for reduced bandwidth usage and time!
This works with both, official network mods, as well as custom networks hosted privately.
A basic implementation is ready for deployment coming days: https://dev-heaven.net/issues/31381
More advancements will probably be made coming time... Stay tuned!

I'll be adding multi-server queue etc coming days so then the feature will be made more apparant/accessible.
Hello,
i´ve tested every Sync-prog, all working well, but at least i´ve chosen your Six-Up, because it is very stable, very simple in use
and always up to date.
Another big point is that you provide the opportunity to follow the progress of the Six-Up on your homepage and every news is available at once.
Thank you very much for the great work and keep it up!
Best regards

Did you make a custom preset with just the DayZ mod? This is what I did, from this point I've two options: 1) just start game or 2) I pre-select in the drop-down at the top the server I want to join (and usually have to use the queue feature otherwise there's no way in).
Btw, Sickboy, I guess I made a rather ranty post before but the queue feature is just awesome to have for Arma (it's something e.g. BF3 has for joining servers)! :yay:

Make sure you do not have a Server selected which requires ACE. (Otherwise you control this by disabling the ServerMods checkbox, but dont forget to re-enable if you want to join servers with the mods needed for that server)
You can choose to use Dynamic Preset:
Either a) follow this link: sixupdater://mod=84950cc2-8d47-11e1-baaa-001517bd964c.
or b) go to Mods tab, right click @<hidden>, select "Use in Dynamic Preset", or for instance "Updater Actions" -> "Install or Update, and StartGame".
Or you can create a new persistent preset:
1. Create a preset:
Either a) Preset Ribbon tab up top, and then select New Preset
or b) Right click somewhere in the white space in the Preset Tree on the left side, and select New Preset
or c) Enable advanced mode, go to the Presets tab in the middle, choose New Preset
2. Add DayZ mod to preset
Either a) go to Mods tab, right click mod, add to Preset
or b) go to Mods tab, and drag and drop the mod into the preset of your choice

Yes, see his post http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?118605-Six-Updater-Install-Update-mods-missions-Delta-patching-Server-browser-and-more!&p=2148754&viewfull=1#post2148754 . If you select your Preset and at the top, on the "leftest" Ribbon you can choose a server from one of the Dropdowns in the middle. Choose your US2 or whatever server and enable the queue.

Hi Sickboy, I have a suggestion or question for the server browser filters... I would like to filter by servers NOT running a particular mod, to be more specific to exclude all DayZ servers from the server browser list. Is that possible? For the times I wanna play normal Arma 2 ;-) ? Thanks a lot

I'm happy to announce a side project we've started, to better support the casual player requirements on the short-term.
The tool will leverage the existing SU technology and infrastructure, but with a much smaller footprint, and simplicity is paramount.
The tool will focus on a single mod(set) at a time. Currently we will start with support for both ACE and DayZ,
others will probably follow later.
You will be able to:
Start the game with the Mod
Install/Update the Mod
Join servers running the Mod, incl queueing for full servers
Find the server where a specific player is playing
Visit the homepage for the Mod
Lastly you can switch back to the full "advanced" Six Updater.
We're also improving Steam support, since that's one of the bigger gripes with SU - ARMA2 Steam edition registry entries missing in many cases which leads to unable to detect the ARMA2/OA games, or Combined Ops etc.
I expect we have a first release in the coming days, with stabilization in the weekend.
While the full, next generation Six Updater, is still being worked on very hard, and is still planned between the next couple of months and the end of the year.
Wow, incredible. I mean, this is so much work you're putting into this, so much dedication, IDK what to say. Thank you I guess.

@<hidden>
I seem to be having a problem. If i try and use sixupdater to join a Dayz server, I always get kicked with the same message... battleye corrupt memory #1. If I use the mod loader in Arma2 I can join a server just fine. I can't seem to figure out why sixupdater keeps causing me to get kicked. I have deleted and reinstalled, CBA and jayarmalib. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled battleye, twice. I am not sure what the problem is. I have searched the forums and googled "battleye corrupt memory #1" but so far I am at a loss. I also check the .rpt and it had no errors that I could see would cause this.
Nomadd
I am 99% sure its caused by jaylib. the dsound.dll will cause corrupt memory #X if i am correct
try using the latest beta and JayArma2Lib_new
this error should not be related to six updater at all
@<hidden>
I agree. It could be I have both jayarmalib and jayarmalib_new installed. Some servers require one , some the other (few running lastest beta), so I load which ever is needed. I also have the lastest beta. I am not sure why that would be a problem. I let sixupdater set the mods I need ,depending on the server. I get the error regardless. However, if I load the mods using the built-in mod loader in Arma2 I do not get the error. I have also tried just installing jayarmalib_new and lastest beta. I completely deleted jayarmalib and dsound.dll. I thought maybe there was a conflict somewhere, and tried to join a server with sixupdater I still get the error. I do agree it is something with jayarmalib, I can join servers (through sixupdater) that do not run jayarmalib with no problems. I will keep playing around with it. I am sure it is something simple.

I'm happy to announce that the new Launcher (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?118605-Six-Updater-Install-Update-mods-missions-Delta-patching-Server-browser-and-more!&p=2150635&viewfull=1#post2150635) is coming together really well, and a first version should be ready for release any time now.
Currently it are mostly graphical elements that still need to be implemented/improved.
Once released we'll obviously do active servicing of the release, while we need to focus on some other things the next 2 weeks,
after that we'll be gradually improving the new launcher.
Currently it fully supports DayZ and PR - since they are both mods that have specific server requirements without additional mods,
while also ACE, I44 and CWR2 are supported, in their pure form - no additional mods currently.
Startup time is about 3 seconds, and another 5-10 seconds are spent for retrieving server info :)
Switching to the full "original" Six Updater is possible as well.
We could use a few testers for feedback, anyone interested? (2-3 people should be sufficient)

No idea on how to fix, I haven't done anything with SU but let it do its thing, clicking to run it then let it update etc. So its SU that's f'd it up. Perhaps something to do with what sickboy says above. A full uninstall will do the trick.
Is there a way to sync mods across all presets? I.e. "just update all my mods"?

Related: currently, when there's update progress, I can't start adding more mods to sync/update/install; it says there's already an action in progress. From my perspective, all it would need is to add the mods to the Updater queue. thx

Six Launcher Beta Released!
http://i49.tinypic.com/f9vma.png
I'm proud and happy to present you the very first version of Six Launcher; The power of Six Updater 2, but without the Fuzz!
Simplicity, User friendly and Performance are key.
This launcher is the first product since we've become a team, and should give you a taste of what is to come in the actual next generation updater project, scheduled late this year.
In this first release we are supporting the following mods: ACE, CWR2, DayZ, I44 and Project Reality.
The features of the launcher are currently mostly useful to the mods with specific server setup (e.g DayZ or PR),
ATM we are extremely busy, but felt we should get you this launcher ASAP already, while we will expand and improve over time.
Current features
Automatic game detection, with automated Steam fallback
Convert/Install/Update the supported mods
Server Browser
Join servers (mods auto-activated, Beta is automatically enabled/updated depending on server)
QuickPlay - Auto pick a server
QueueUp for full servers - auto-join once there are enough slots free
You can switch through the various mods currently by the little arrow under the logo.
Please consider this a Beta, we plan to do servicing coming days, and provide new/improved features over the course of the next few weeks.

Trying it out just now. I have some UI issues - you are probably aware of them already so sorry and I know this is a prerelease :)
1) the one arrow to change mods isa bit unintuitive - there is no way to go back if I click one, I have to cycle it all through the mods, while waiting for Sync to finish.
2) no way to sort servers right now (by player count/name/etc)
3) the server name field is too small - can't see whole server name (with usually important info like TS address, or difficulty settings in DayZ)
Otherwise, great job!

Hehe, cheers mate, and thanks for all your input so far :)
I'm right there with you re the shortcuts, but short of removing the desktop shortcuts completely im unsure what we can do about them currently,
we're looking at either upgrading InstallShield or using another setup tool (though IS Visual Studio integration is superb).
But right now can't spend too much time on the installer :)

Should be related to your security suite - double check all the SU utilities are allowed/excluded from these.

Found a memory leak in the Six Launcher's Server list. Combined with Grouping Favorites from Servers (which disables a crucial memory saving feature of the server list),
this caused for quite high memory usages, even for Microsoft WPF / IronRuby ;-)
I've fixed the memory leak; https://dev-heaven.net/issues/31873 and for the time being i've disabled the grouping feature temporary until improved; https://dev-heaven.net/issues/31651 (The list is still sorted by Favorites and then amount of players by defeault, and re-sortable)
This majorly improves the memory usage and also sorting performance of the datagrid.
Will probably be deployed tomorrow.

It seems to be downloading very, very, very slowly though. Not sure why. 30 KB/s.
If I import somoeones server and I want to update my mods to server how can I skip one? For instance in my preset after importing a server I might have a map folder that is 1 gig. How would I tell 6 updater to skip that? I click on skip under custom repo tab then mods tab but it doesnt seem to do anything.

I'm pleased to announce our mirror network has once again expanded with another EU location, we now have 16 services active on about 10 servers world wide.
The latest addition sports a 10 Gbit connection and 30 TB traffic/mo and is provided by us.
Hopefully in the future we will also provide such server for the US region.
As of last week, MaSSive kindly provided another community mirror, also in the EU.
If anyone else (/community) would like to provide a mirror, feel free to contact us.
Enjoy!

It seems to be downloading very, very, very slowly though. Not sure why. 30 KB/s.What is "it" in this context? Downloading the software or downloading Mods with the software?
And then which, Six Launcher, or Six Updater, or both?
Usual reasons for slow downloads is security software - best exclude every SU executable from all security measures.
Also, Six Launcher does not yet contain any logic to prioritize mirrors, this will be implemented soon: https://dev-heaven.net/issues/31615

How would I tell 6 updater to skip that? I click on skip under custom repo tab then mods tab but it doesnt seem to do anything.Currently due to some limitations in the custom networks implementation this indeed is not controllable at this time.
This will be improved, but there are currently other priorities.
The best thing in any case would be to get the custom network manager to adjust their repo and properly split up the modfolders.
It's not as if there's any difference when SU is managing 1, 10 or 100 modfolders, apart from the improved manageability and flexibility when the mods are properly divided :)
More importantly, there should be very few reasons to host mods on custom networks, if they are already available on the official network.
By leveraging the official network, there are many advantages like access to the world wide mirror network, for increased availability and transfer speeds.
Yeah dayZ update is very slow here in Belgium :p
2.7kb/secPlease see my response above to Nicholas. Also updates do not require much bandwidth because with our software they are incremental - only downloading changed parts of a file, instead of the whole file.

How much disk space is required for a mirror? Are there any benefits to being a mirror or is it purely voluntary? What kind of access is required for your team?
Also, I'll reply to a message in the Automatic Mod Downloading ARMA3 thread since Max Power requested we move discussion of SU here:
We already have; the launcher, and the next-gen SU will leverage similar simplicity and performance.
Great :)
Choice of language(s) and UI frameworks have little to do with clunkyness and bad User Experience. You can build bad UI with any language or UI framework.
The choices are really about personal preference and fitting purpose.
To an extent - I think mixing languages makes code more difficult to manage and more difficult for other developers to participate in. That said, I'm not going to preach to the choir about Development 101 - I'm sure you have perfectly valid reasons for your choices, and I've not looked deeply enough at the code to make an informed observation on the matter.
The bad user experience / UI of the SU is more a design decision than anything else, where for years I was alone on these projects and focussed on functionality rather than user experience / UI, i'm a backend programmer more than anything, and i've had my hands full on the projects i'm involved in.
The launcher is an example of what we can accomplish as a Team, and was a very quick and focussed job.
I'm glad that you're looking more toward the launcher for the UI style - although I'm not overly fond on the mod switching mechanism, the overall concept is a thousand times better. Adding the ability to create your own combinations of mods, perhaps with a choice of a few presets for single player and minimizing interruption to the user experience by doing the syncing etc in the background would also be a long stride forward.
I don't see what the relevance is of Mono or WINE. We're talking about Windows games here, and the current version of the suite is designed for Windows.
For the future we are planning multi-platform support (in which case we should consider Mono), like was available in the legacy updater suite.
I mention WINE because I'm a Linux user :) I've got ARMA II working well on WINE for semi-regular gameplay (with a few caveats), as indicated by the sticky in the ARMAII/OA GENERAL forum but the only way to install and sync many mods that rely upon Six Updater is a poor rehash of an old bash script for Linux servers. For maximum compatibility, pure Mono or C++ with an optional Gtk/Qt frontend would provide a usable application on Windows (Server & Desktop, remember Windows Server is moving towards CLI interfaces, now), Linux (Server or WINE-run Desktop application) and Mac (Likely to be working sometime in the future).
Not only that, but Microsoft is apparently ceasing support for Visual Studio Express (a favourite of .NET developers) in the next iteration - it'll only let you create Metro apps for free. A concerning move for any .NET developer that relies on community development effort. MonoDevelop is a fairly full-featured IDE, similar in functionality to Visual Studio with a visual debugger, support for many forms types (that integrate with each OS's theme fairly fluently) and plenty VCS plugins. Mono happily supports pretty much anything useful that .NET has to offer (http://www.mono-project.com/Compatibility) and is frequently updated with new features. Having developed a couple of ASP/.NET and C#/.NET applications using Mono 2.6, I'm happy to recommend it to any intermediate to advanced developer for pretty much any implementation (in fact, it quite comfortably works with most .NET applications with minimum-to-no effort).
Yes DayZ was it's main goal, there are other mods supported though, and it's only a glimpse of what you can expect in the next-gen software.
It actually took me a few minutes to figure that out - I had to boot the VM up again to check. Are you looking for any help with development? I'm finding myself with some extra time on my hands.
How much disk space is required for a mirror? Are there any benefits to being a mirror or is it purely voluntary? What kind of access is required for your team?55 GB currently, but up to 100 GB for coming months should be sufficient. The access is rsync push over ssh.
It's pure voluntary. An indirect benefit is that the network grows, and generally the bigger the network, the more stable and performant it gets :)

Either the launcher will evolve into the next-gen SU, or it will be minorly improved, with the next-gen SU as a separate project.
Syncing is technically performed in the background, but we do prevent actions to be initiated while syncing. But it should be fairly easy to remove this limitation.

So nice that Mono can offer something in this area, we will consider it in the future, but we're not planning to change everything up, just to suite a marginal linux/wine/mono group :)
Ruby is multi-platform as well. We'll decide sometime in the future.

Ruby is a great language, I've used it for several projects. Pure ruby, generally - I'm not really comfortable with the massive maps of gem dependencies that some projects bring with them, and I've always preferred my own code to external APIs. But, as you say, it's all down to preference! :)

Perhaps not so marginal as you think, if ARMA 3 runs on WINE, too. Linux gamers have a habit of flocking to games that run well on WINE, or even better run natively! (Though we wouldn't see that without some drastic changes, such as BiS adopting OpenGL. Which would probably be for the best, really, since OpenGL is the standard on pretty much every device and would open up the Mac OSX, Linux, console and tablet/smartphone markets [perhaps not so much the last part, but in the future who knows? Moore's law, remember?] . I'm almost expecting Microsoft to stall Direct3D since Win8 is a tablet OS.)
Ruby is multi-platform as well. We'll decide sometime in the future.
It is, indeed. Ruby requires the ruby interpreter, though - it's hardly as widely installed as .NET or Mono. It's also not great for GUI apps.
That's incorrect. The legacy Six Updater Suite runs on both Windows and Linux, and it provides nearly everything the current Windows version provides, minus zsync and custom repo support.

I got that working, once, with some strange combination of git snapshot/ruby version/gem versions. I can't remember, for the life of me, how to get it working again. This is another issue I have with ruby - version 1.8 -> 1.9 broke loads of things and if it's not a new ruby version, it's a new gem version come to break everything. Rvm helps a bit, but you really can't ask end users to mess about with that sort of stuff with a videogame application.
Thank you kindly for the offer, help is always welcome, but we should discuss a few things first, perhaps we can text-chat on Skype?
Drop me a PM with your nickname and I'll be in touch shortly :).

Re linux etc - I wouldn't bet too much on it, I also disagree on Win8 only being a tablet OS (it's easy for the haters I guess :D), and besides its not as if Windows 7 suddenly just vanishes off the map,
anyway no use in discussing may or may not to be's, if the linux game bubble would really pop (i'm hearing that several years now..), we'll of course adjust.
Re the legacy Suite; sure, I didn't say it was perfect, but at least it's down your street as linux fan right? :)
As to Ruby versions - IMO there's no problem there, use 1.8 for 1.8 apps/gems and use 1.9 for 1.9 apps/gems, easy isnt it? :)
Bundler does a lot of good for Gems as well. Anyway, again, preferences preferences :)

Well, Windows 7 is all good now but I wonder how long Microsoft are planning to wait to release Windows 9 or whatever they're going to call it. Metro is clearly a tablet-focused system, c'mon - single windows? No start menu? Have you seen the video where a young lad shows the Beta to his word-processing father and the poor guy takes 20 minutes to find the app menu and can't figure out how to exit an app?
As for Linux, ooh - just you wait and see. Valve is releasing a Linux client with Left4Dead at least at launch. Phoronix has more info.

Bundler is useful too, but again it's pretty difficult for a non-technical user. Some gems update pretty frequently, and seem willing to deprecate or remove widely-used features on a whim. Linux usability has gone through the roof after Fedora/Ubuntu's competition for the desktop - Linux OSes have become essentially a free version of Mac OSX. Pretty much everything now just works without all the driver faff and web searches for ad-supported software the average user has to do on Windows. BSD is also taking strides with PC-BSD!
I've prepared running Sync without interrupting the user experience; https://dev-heaven.net/issues/32542
Looks good! :) Looking forward to the PM.
No worries, that's exactly what we'll do, wait and see :) For now they are just promises and wishes (and i've heard them before) :)
Re Win8, there's still the legacy desktop, the only difference in operation is Start menu -> Start Screen.
Launching from the TaskBar is IMO preferred anyway, and otherwise WindowsKey + start typing application name has been another preferred method ever since Vista. Both very much supported in Win8.
And even then you still have a whole desktop to put icons on (I really don't like that though).
Of course Metro applications etc are targeted at the tablet. But why that is a problem is a mystery to me; Don't like it, don't use it :)
All-In-All; again a big show of people's natural resistance to change, in my opinion.
Re Ruby/Endusers - you'd distribute a complete bundle for end-users, which means specific versions.
There should be no need to update libraries as a user so there is also no impact of changes in new versions,
IMO its up to the developer to test/confirm and distribute the correct bundle.
PM sent a wee bit back.

Indeed, but then there's the security implications of that - using a static build of ruby and specific gem versions could invite all kinds of nasty attacks, especially with any app that parses input from the web.
Added, by the way. I replied to your PM.

You are 9/10 times always dependent on the developer updating his software to include the latest dependencies, etc.
Maybe a little less on the linux-end of things, and open source in general, but we're not just talking about end-users anymore then, but actual power-users, or even developers.

Slow, awful and not really usable.Initial initializations are slow due to mirror prioritizing and gamespy fetches etc. Otherwise things should be rather speedy. If they're not, then something is wrong, often caused by security suites (AV/FW etc).
There's also a known performance/freeze issue resolved for next build; https://dev-heaven.net/issues/33749
Using Six Launcher is recommended over the Updater. The Updater has bad UI design and some performance issues, which will be taken care off in the upcoming next-gen software.
If you like, post your issues specifically, with details and preferably with log files, and we can look into resolutions: http://www.six-updater.net/p/support.html

alternatively you could try the web-installer; http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17113
Otherwise it should be available on Windows Update.
The thing is, is that I installed windows 7 on my mac and am running it through bootcamp. Six updater is a nice program, very useful. The real bad thing is interface.
In particular I have rarely seen server filters realized in a limitating way as in this program. You should really give a look @<hidden> ones (no, I am not a fanboy).
Example:

Initial initializations are slow due to mirror prioritizing and gamespy fetches etc.
Sure :) You can install, follow and update a handful or more mods faster than the tool, even with rapid and regular updates :)
If that's the case, something's definitely wrong :D I'm up for fixing if you provide requested details.
I didn't look too much into the tool to be able to suggest in details.
But: Don't get Servers on launch. Get them when I actually need them.
And the whole tool is overloaded as hell sorry.
My Suggestion: Look at the curse gaming client, it's an updater for UI addons for WoW, Rift and other Games.
That's how you do it properly. Ask Modders to send you informations about their addons, where to download etc.
Add them to a sqlite database. Download that database from a central server when the tool launches and when it has changed.
Display the Database in your tool nicely and provide a 1-click install method.
That would be much better. Make the server browser an extra part in the UI.
Do something like a tabbed UI or so. There are many possibilities.

Six updater is a nice program, very useful. The real bad thing is interface.
In particular I have rarely seen server filters realized in a limitating way as in this program. You should really give a look @<hidden> ones (no, I am not a fanboy).
Example:
- filters are never saved (first thing)
- we should be able to select a rule for server name or at least we should be able to put something that is "cointained" into the server name, not the beginning (example "1.7.1.5" would give as the result all updated servers, now just nothing)

Goodbye.
Thanks for the feedback! I've created a ticket https://dev-heaven.net/issues/33997 and also responded re the server name search: https://dev-heaven.net/issues/33997#note-1

I didn't look too much into the tool to be able to suggest in details. Perhaps give it another spin? Patience for the first launches and shutdowns ;-)
But: Don't get Servers on launch. Get them when I actually need them. In case of the Updater; you can disable Multiplayer and AutoSyncServers in the Options.
And the whole tool is overloaded as hell sorry. Are you describing Six Updater or Launcher? The former I suspect? Bad UI design is known and will be much improved in the next-gen version.
While the launcher should already be much more lean and user friendly.

In the Updater check the Mods tab, right click any mod and pick the action you wanna do.
Hey great work, all the mods add so much to the game. I just started using 6 last week and was wondering is there any manuals on how to use it? Since the update I have to add the mods to the preset every time I want to play. If I make a short cut Acre always has an issue. Any help would be great.

I'm just getting 9999 Ping for every server I look at. Doing "Update Server Info" doesn't change it. I get correct pings with Arma II Launcher, so I don't think my firewall/router is incorrectly configured. Certainly gslist is allowed Out with UDP and TCP, but I tried disabling my firewall anyway and it didn't help so I don't think it's that.

Another question. Is there any way to manually add servers by IP address, as I come across quite a few recommendations/websites giving the IP address that aren't found when I search for their name in the Server Browser? Arma II Launcher lets me add them manually, but I'd much rather use Six Updater and associate them with a mod profile, so that when I want to play on them it will automatically launch Arma II with the correct mods.

I've got that checked (as well as Main game only) but it still shows 9999 regardless. If I click on the date (Sync Gamespy Servers List) it does update some of them but leaves others showing 9999 (my firewall prompted me to allow UDP In when I did this, which it's never done before, so I seem to be getting somewhere). What I need it do is update the ping for selected servers only (i.e. those showing after filtering) not the entire Gamespy servers list though.
Also, I could have sworn this worked before but now when I click on a profile on the left, it doesn't change the Server list to show only the servers for that profile, but just continues to show them all. Some profiles are just for one specific server, so I'd like it to just show that but others are like "A2 OA ACE" so I'd like it to show only servers using those mods when I select the profile and then I could update the pings for just those servers before selecting one.
The filtering doesn't seem to be working right at the moment either. If I click Clear Filter then type ACE I get nothing, warfare gives me one server, insurgency gives me none, whereas if I try this in Arma II Launcher I get loads of results.
Also, I need to create an "A2 OA Vanilla (no beta)" profile, which I've done but even though under Game Profile "Beta" isn't ticked, it still lists the mod "expansion/beta" under this profile. Does that matter or will it just not use it if "Beta" is unticked?
Cool that there's a way to manually add servers though. Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to have worked for me and without a way to give it a name, I can't see a way to find the server, if it has been added.

Thanks for the update Sickboy. I haven't tried it yet so don't know if it will fix this problem, but when I try and Launch from Six Launcher it says "No entry '.profilePathDefault'.
If I use the startup switches -profiles=E:\Data\ArmaII\ and -name=doveman it creates the folder E:\Data\ArmaII\Users\doveman which is empty. Normally when I launch (with Arma II Launcher or a shortcut) with just -name=doveman, it correctly uses my profile which is in My Documents\ArmA 2 Other Profiles\doveman\ (no Users subfolder in there). The following is shown in C:\Users\Main\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\arma2OA.RPT:

I've got a feeling Dayz doesn't work with CO Lite (i.e. Arma II Free + OA) anyway, as there's an additional arma2oa.RPT created in the E:\Data\ArmaII\ folder with loads of "Warning Message: No Entry" messages. I'm not that bothered as I don't think Dayz is really my "thing" and I only wanted to show it to my friend.
I also don't understand what's going on with the expansion\beta;expansion\beta\expansion bit. expansion\beta should be the correct folder, which is created when I run the beta installer and that contains the beta arma2oa.exe, etc but now there's a @<hidden> folder in there and another expansion\beta folder nested inside that, which appears to contain duplicates of the arma2oa.exe, etc and a .rsync folder, so I presume this has been created by Six Updater.

But if a server requires the beta it might still activate, in that case you can force it off with the override up top.

That was the first thing I unticked but still the beta exansion was listed under the profile. I've managed to get rid of it somehow now by clicking various things (I don't know what worked in the end, but it certainly wasn't as straightforward as it should have been). I'm having another problem now, in that I can't get the profile assigned to Arma II Free. So I've got a Preset "A2 Any - Vanilla" which I've associated with the profile "A2 Standalone (forced)" which in turn has the Game setting on "Arma2FreeSt" but still the commandline at the bottom shows (even after switching to another profile and back) "D:\Games\ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead\arma2oa.exe -noSplash -noFilePatching -showScriptErrors "-name=doveman" "-mod=D:\Games\ARMA2-Free;expansion"". Also, after closing and restarting Six Updater, the Preset "A2 Standalone (forced)" has reset it's Game setting to "Arma2St". I even tried making a new Preset "A2 Free" and setting it's Game setting to "Arma2FreeSt" but still the commandline shows the same and that changes to "Arma2" after restarting as well.
Will look into.
Thanks.
Sorry if this question has been answered, but is there anyway to make each update an actual update, instead of a whole new install? Each time I open six I get a message advising that it's going to download a new version, and then takes me through a full install process.
Secondly, each time this new install completes I get a DayZ launcher coming up, is there anyway to stop this from coming up? Why don't all my mods come up in this launcher, and not just DayZ?

If you're in a loop, the installation might be corrupt, best would be to fully uninstall, delete Six updater folders and shortcuts, and reinstall the latest version.
The installation/upgrade process is being worked on.
The launcher will support more mods in the future, you can prevent it from starting up by unticking the option at the end of upgrades.

Is there any text documentation beyond this (http://www.six-projects.net/wagn/Six_Updater+Documentation)?

Tried the new version.. thanks, but no thanks.
* Get rid of all those facebook, google+, twitter buttons and all that shit. If I want informations, I get them. But don't shove it into my face all the time.
* Why must there be a internet-browser in the app? I don't use IE, IE is unsecure and I don't want to run that pile of junk. I have a real browser on my system. Totally unnecessary, eats up resources and clutters the interface. At least make a website that integrates nicely into the app, but you just display a blog.. lol.
* It is still faster to download and install mods manually than with your updater. Takes way too much time to figure out how he works.
* Why a launcher and a updater? I say it again: Look at commercial mod-updaters, they are way better.
If it would be open source I could take the time to improve it and submit a patch, but since you have chosen not to make it closed source ( for whatever reason, maybe Spyware? ), well not able to.
1: Dont use them if you dont want to
2: Planned for the future
3: That's why there is the launcher, so you don't have to figure too much out
4: Because there was a need and a demand for what the Launcher offers. If you read a little bit around you'll notice we're working on the next gen software which will unite the functionality.
It is more or less open source, you can even easily retrieve the ruby scripts even from the binaries. There's an issue tracker to report issues and feedback, but leave the attitude at the door.

Hi, sure mate!
http://www.six-projects.net/Six_Updater+CustomRepos_Setup
It's recommended to not host the mods files on your own custom repo, if the mods exist on the official network.
Instead it's recommended to just host configuration, while taking the mods from the official network.
As you will enjoy the huge mirror network if you use mods from the official network.
If a mod is specified as required for a server, but the mod does not exist on your custom repo, it will automatically be searched for on the official network.
This way you could for instance host your own small custom mods on the custom repo, while taking the big mods from the official network.

Hey, I checked my server, and as I'm renting, I don't believe I can actually run Six Updater itself on this server -- I have to actually manually upload all the mods I'd like to use. Real bummer!
How do most people who use the SU on their server actually do this? I'm a total n00b to server administration. Outside of remote accessing some of the servers we use at work (which run on Win Server 2003), I have no clue where to even start. How do guys host a server out of their bedroom? I've never seen any internet provider that offers the type of connection I think you'd need to host an arma2 game.
Hey probably a good place to start is: https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Dedicated_Server
You could use the Six Updater upload preset feature to upload mods to your server etc: http://www.six-projects.net/Six_Updater+Upload_Preset
if you do not have remote desktop access / cannot install SU on the server.

I've just tried your suggestion of deleting all traces and then reinstalling but the problem still persists. The desktop in question is a 4 year old Dell Inspiron 530 running windows vista. One cause could be that whenever i attempt to check for updates through the control panel it chooses not to respond. If this could be the cause, is there any way of getting it working without having to buy any extra software?

In that case, try running from an (admin) command prompt: sfc /scannow
to see if there are any system files missing/corrupted and to fix this automatically.

I've setup the repo and I've added the mod so it's shown as (L) under the preset and when I go to 'Use Preset' it lists my @<hidden> but it simply won't add it to the list of mods for the repo, it's even in the repository itself but it won't export it to the live public repo when I click commit/push. I just don't know what else to try so I thought I would ask here. Thank you.
Edit: Would someone be able to run me through how exactly to add a custom non SU mod that iv'e personally made to a custom repo?

if using SU, and a dynamic preset with latest beta, with cba/asr_ai and tpcw_ai loaded, I get an error in the editor if placed a group, and a player as me.
now, using another launcher, it works without error?
same files, beta etc....
Any idea what's the cause of this?
aargh,noFilePatching was not selected!
I should've checked :)

I've noticed a problem with the way SU downloads and installs mods, in that it doesn't move the userconfig or keys files to where they need to be (Arma2OA\userconfig Arma2OA\keys) but leaves them in the @<hidden> folder (i.e. ASR_AI\userconfig\asr_ai_settings.hpp). This means the user has to manually check each mod folder to see if there's any such files and if so, manually move them to the right place otherwise things don't work properly (I recently updated ASR_AI and the exisiting asr_ai_settings.hpp was no longer compatible, giving me an error message until I manually copied the new one over the old one).
It seems the .hpp files can go in sub-folders as well, e.g. userconfig\ASR_AI\ so perhaps you could find a way to automatically create such sub-folders (if not already present) and copy the .hpp files there. The keys files can just be copied to the Arma2OA\keys\ folder.

"Process userconfigs" does this. I hope SB will put in a dialog when SU detects new configs. Hint hint ;)

Both SU and SL handle Userconfig files, but it cannot know what changes are new, and what changes are done by yourself so it doesn't overwrite existing files unless you run "Process UserConfigs" action in SIX Updater.

Ah that's cool. So if I select a server preset and do "Process UserConfigs" it will copy the ones from the mod folders (for mods in that preset) to userconfigs\ but will it copy them to the root of that folder or to subfolders like \userconfig\ASR_AI as that's how I already have them and I'm not sure what would happen if SU puts another copy in the root of userconfig\.

Yeah, that would be cool. Perhaps SU could just make a backup of existing configs before copying the new one over, so then if the user finds they had made adjustments that the new config doesn't contain they'd have the old copy to reference and copy their tweaks across. Probably no need to prompt the user that there's an existing copy if it's making backups anyway.

It will install them where they need to be, subfolders.
Yes SU makes backups of the files when you run "process userconfigs". Still it seems not a good idea to just update them. The question is also to determine WHEN they need to be updated etc.
