Anybody else getting constantly less than 20 FPS in this mission? Mine is around 15-20 but when i press esc key in pause menu it jumps to around 30, anybody else notice this horrible FPS lag in this mission?

You have the problem only in From Hell? What is a typical fps in other missions?

Baz

no I have it in other missions too... and FPS varies, its not remaining at stable values

I haven't played From Hell (went right to Sandstorm), so I can't tell you anything about that mission.

I would set video memory to default, shadow detail to high, PP to low (kills FPS), and HDR to normal and see if that looks good and gives you better fps. You may want to go down to 1680x1050 (what I use on a 1920x1200 monitor). The fps you are getting seems too low for your system.

If that works better, set AF and Texture Detail to High for a better look.

Also, BIS recommends using the new beta patch released today.

See this thread for more video settings:

I hope this helps.

Try this:

Open your ArmA2OA.cfg with notepad and change
AToC=7;

to

AToC=0;

and save ArmA2OA.cfg

AToC is quite new antialiasing setting added recently for Arma2. It is on even when antialiasing is off in video settings for some hardware setups it will cause a lot of slowdown especially when using scopes or other types of zoom like in tank gunner position.

Also Video Memory set to Default instead of Very High, works better for cards with more than 1GB memory. If I have undestood correctly there are no cards where Video Memory should be set to Very High.

did all that... I get in arrowhead benchmark mission avg of 31 fps and then in "From Hell" mission in campaign I get about 18 FPS and if i press esc to go into pause menu FPS goes to 29 which I suppose is the normal FPS I should be having... But why when I unpause the FPS drops back down to 18 instead of remaining at 29?

Goal would be to change that 18 FPS to 29 but even at lowest settings it just goes to under 25 fps... strange

What FPS are all the rest of you getting in from hell??? That mission seems to be demanding.

I do not know what is going on in that mission since I too chose to play Sandstrom intead of it, but I think I once read something about it beeing a nightmission and with lots of tanks.

So if pause increases FPS so much. I would assume there is so much happening in scripting that it will consume a lot of CPU power and when you hit ESC and pause. All that scripting and unit movement is paused too.

If somebody thinks unit amount or their movement cannot slow down the game. You are terribly wrong. I quite recently bought over 300 infantry units in Dogs Of War and the game went to a slideshow even though I got Q9550+GTX570 setup which should be sufficient enough.

As we know Arma2 is one of the most CPU dedicated game there is. So tweaking GPU settings may not help. If you could overclock you might see increase of FPS in this mission.

Whithout hardware changes, i think there is no "do-this-do-that"-answer for for this issue. My best advice is to accept that mission performace as it is or revert back to Open Season to play Sandstorm instead.

From 1.59 changelog:

[77289] Improved: Vegetation rendering using AToC (require antialiasing enabled)

So AToC is available only if AA is enabled, which is not the case for Baz. That's why I didn't mention it for this case. Do you think that it will effect performance even when AA is disabled?

Yes I do. Even BI Developer admitted it is possible. So if they don't know for sure, how could we know for sure.

I myself still keep AToC=7 but AA disabled, because it will not add detail, it will just smooth it.

But for some people who play with me turning AToC=0 helped a lot when they looked in their rifle scope and they didn't have AA enabled.

Wow. And that wasn't fixed for 1.59 final or the latest beta released yesterday? In that case, BAZ - SET ATOC=0 in arma2oa.cfg!!!!!!!!!
