Commander Keen or Dangerous Dave 2 anyone? ;)
Police & Space Quest? :)
Test Drive 2: The Duel? :)
LHX Attack Chopper?
Stock Cars or Grand Prix?
... there's just soo hard to pick just 5 :)
1. Stronghold Crusader
2. Mafia
3. Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
4. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
5. Call of Duty: United Offensive
1. Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines and Beyond the Call of Duty. (Used to play these games when I got home from school in the 90s. Good times.)
2. Lylat Wars / Star Fox 64
3. FIFA 96
4. Call of Duty (The original & UO)
5. Mass Effect 2
There aren't that many decent games out these days, even Mass Effect 2 doesn't have the amount of 'fluff' I'd like but the possibilitys for games continue to improve. So while I feel that there aren't many good games at the moment, the game engines themselves are probably more worth a mention.

Actually have a hard time choosing, only a few took as much time of my life like ArmA & OFP did:
The Sims
The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
Rainbow Six 3: Ravenshield (PC & Xbox)
Tactical Ops
Age of Empires
But also liked:
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Simcity
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Halo 1
Assasins creed
Abe's Odyssee
Full Spectrum Warrior
American's Army
Mario Kart :P
Must have missed a lot others though
My games taste is still hanging in 90s
1. Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri
- for the first open world, squad based, 1st person, tacictal shooter
2. Mech Warrior 2
- because It is just beautifull
3. Delta Force 2
- for the most impressiv landscapes off all time
4. Earth 2150
- because it was the first real 3D-RTS
5. Quake 2
- for its art style

Hmmm... Top 5
-Ultimas (VII being top): First game were I felt totally sandboxed. Lived as a serial killer in the woods with my ring of invisiibilty -woe to the many bloody tracks leaving those woods
-Madden/NHL Titles of the 90's: Huge fun with tons of beer and pizza with me college mates!
-Doom: First time I saw the 3d 1st persin shooter in action I knew this was a game I'd been waiting for. Housemates used to break in my room to play and broke my console out of demon reaction/controller-pulling fear. Great game. (Note: Never played Duke Nukem, probably would have had same effect)
-Half Life: Really one of a kind experience -great action storyline build up from start to finish. The first ecounter with Marines opened up the future of tac-shooters.
-Mount&Blade/Warband: Probably my #1 favorite game to this day. Fighting mechanics are so "fleshed out" as to never make the game boring. A stategy game is being built around this fantastic engine thru mods and expansions cementing its place as top game of its genre for a very long time.
Notables:
Swat 4: If ARMA ever gets half of that cqb action, I'd call it a life
Rainbow6: Preplanning baby!
Tribes: First time trying MP on PC and was a blast!
Deus Ex: Great game nuff said.
X-Com: Incredible tactical satisfaction that has never been rivaled imho.
Goldeneye: Great entertaining shooter!
Virtua Fighter: Arcade game showcasing the future of polygon fighting fun!
All the C-64 games from my youth: Bruce Lee; Larry Bird/Doc.J; Airborne Ranger; Adventure Construction Set; Gunship etc.........................

Tomb Raider a console classic?!
I´m having flashbacks of checking the videogame store daily to see if it´s released for PC already, that was years before PS1! :pet6:
PS: Adding #6 to my all time fav-five:
-Tie Fighter (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Just needed to mention that as i was awaiting it´s release more impatiently than anything else at that time. Die Hard Trilogy for PS1 plays in the same league.....and a bit of Mystic Quest for GB :turn:

Mmm... I played the hell out of it quite some years ago on PC. I never played it on PS.
The original Tomb Raider was a classic for the PS1. It was the first game I ever paid for with my own money, I think I was 6-7 at the time. I still have that original, none platinum, copy which I got on day of release.
I remember playing while my sisters read out instructions from the walk-through guide, good times.

Oh yeah, forgot about that, a classic for sure, one of few games I actually played until the end... I also forgot about C&C series, Starcraft series, Warcraft series, Total War series, and a few others mentioned since I posted.
A top 5 is impossible.
But a top 3 would be easy if I could include BIS products... Arma II, OFP, Arma

Yes, no one lives forever. How could I forget? I played the first (NOLF 1) game over and over. NOLF 2 was not so good, have to say.
NOLF is probably one of the most popular games of all times where I come from. In 2000/01 this, OPF, HL1, THPS2 and FIFA 2001 were probably most played games for us.

I've only really started properly playing games since 2001-ish. OFP was literally my first PC game. And in all honesty, since 2001, the 5 non-BIS games I listed have been the ones that have had the biggest impact on me, and I don't think it's possible to say that any of them weren't special in some way.
Half-Life 2 was special because of many factors, namely how cinematic it was and its impressive physics engine for the time. Mass Effect 2 is special because of how it has essentially mastered the technique of story-telling in a video game (in my opinion). Batman: Arkham Asylum is special because it's the only good Batman game since the SNES one, and it's actually very good at that. Spider-Man 2 was special because it, along with GTA 3, introduced the world to a 3D open-ended "playground" environment, and mastered the way to control a character such as Spider-Man in such an environment. Finally, I think Call of Duty 4 was special because of both its storyline (albeit short) and, of course, its multiplayer which I still play to this day. It's a shame what's happened to the brand since it, though.

I forgot to put in my top 5 'Links Championship Edition' - the golf sim. I've consistently kept a version of Links on my HD since 1997 (or thereabouts). Courses are still being produced - some really beautiful work, both to look at and play. It's tended to be my first install after the OS on new computer builds.

I have a 4 CD Version of 1998 or 1999 I believe.

Call of Duty 4 (Awesome story, great multiplayer, great memories)
World in Conflict (Awesome RTS game, too bad Ubisoft killed it to make room for Endwar)
Battlefield 1942 (Still play it)
Joint Operations (Great, semi-realistic FPS with huge maps and support for 150 players)

WiC has got to be my favorite RTS. I've also been involved with the Modern Warfare mod, those guys are essentially bringing ArmA-style realism into WiC.

I've also been working on my own mod, called Red Storm Rising.

I wish we could have named more than 5 games, there are a few more which I love but didn't include.
Fallout 3 & New Vegas
S.T.A.L.K.E.R Series
Killing Floor
Half Life 2(and it's episodes)
Red Orchestra 2(Because I know it will be the best game evar)

Can you use the mod in the SP campaign? Not right now, but you can use it on Skirmish against bots and there is official dedicated server support for it.
I remember having an alpha build where you had T-90s in one of the campaign missions so perhaps that might be planned for a later time. I've been out of touch with the rest of the Dev team, spending most of my time playing ARMA. :yay:
1. Mafia (PC version)

My brother has the Mafia 2 demo, I must admit I never played Mafia 1, however Mafia 2 doesn't look all that bad. Except that they completely overdid bloom effects and now 12PM looks like shit.
And I am glad to see some other Joint Ops fans here. Too bad that game died an early death, it had serious potential.

We still have a 24/7 IC mod server up.

It's basicly the same story as with OFP and arma. Daniel Vavrá, the guy who wrote the orginal story to mafia 1, and did a lot off hard work to it, left the whole mafia 2 project about 50% into the game.
New developers.. always fuck up sequels. Mafia 2 was just like DR: a stripped down game. But instead, a lot of shitty DLC were sold.
If you haven't played Mafia you should. Just buy it for PC and not for Ps2 or xbox. It's one of the best games I've ever played in my life, and story-wise, It's a damn masterpiece. The ending even gave me goosebumps and almost tears in my etes. You just HAVE to play it.. without any sneakpeeks.
Just look at It's opening:

Yeah, I was in the IC mod tournament, those were fun times but I never had the time to come to practice and later computer problems kept me from participating in Battle Day. I have an IC11 badge though, I was in the Bundeswehr team, first as a member of Luftwaffe and then in the airborne infantry.
Also for some reason I got banned from the German -SG1- public server. I don't cheat and I submitted an inquiry on their forums but all I got was "Thanks for giving us your new clan tag, we've banned that character as well".
All the servers are Coop these days and I don't really like that.

I'll see about buying Mafia 1, the problem is that playing it will steal time from ARMA :inlove:
JO is awesome, I just can't stand that sidestep lean shoot thing everyone does. It's worse than bunny hopping. Really a great game though.

Mafia 2 was a disappointment in some ways, but I don't think the contrast was as bad ARMA2 vs. DR.
The graphics were actually excellent, the story was decent, the city was amazing (especially in the snow), and the gameplay was good. The problem was length and a lack of content.
DR just plain sucked at everything.

Yes I know number one has more than one answer but really I look at all of them as one big game that have different chapters kinda like his books?!? Wrong am I?
5 is not really a PC game even though it did come out on it. The nintendo version was much faster and better.
Anyone ever play a little known game called Muzzle Velocity? Came out just before OFP and sort of had open world play like OFP but was confined to WW2.
PC:
1. Command & Conquer (1995)
2. Command & Conquer: Red Alert (1996)
3. StarCraft (1998)
4. Half Life (1997)
5. Age of Empires II: The Conquerors (2000)
Fun thing is that I still play these games from time to time. They work 100% in Win7 64-bit, Dune 2 needs DOSBox though :)
Console:
1. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysse (1997) (Playstation)
2. Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) (Xbox)
3. Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction (2005) (Xbox)
4. Metal Arms: Glitch in the System (2003) (Xbox)
