So, finally it's released - I haven't played the original game, but after getting totally snowed in on HOI3 and HOI3:Semper Fi this summer, this game just felt as a must buy. From what I gather this game has a much grander focus than HOI3, and lets warfare take a back seat to managing economy, diplomacy and other matters of policy - But still allowing the more bloodthirsty players to get their conquering on.
Anyone sitting on any tips and hints for a budding Victoria player is more than welcome to speak up - I feel that my continuing failures in HOI3 do not bode well for the citizens of my simulated kingdom.... Ofcourse, general discussion, critique and admiration of the game is also welcome.

Afraid I don't have much advice, being more of a EU3 player (which I consider is much more... manageable than HoI3. I would like to like HoI3, but it's simply over my head), but I'll sure take Victoria II out for a spin. If nothing else to support Paradox for their utter awesomeness (in fact Paradox and Bohemia are my two favourite developers).

Victoria II shares alot more with EU3 then with HoI3. If you've played EU3 you're definetly going to have an easy time adjusting yourself to Victoria II. Economy and science are the two main parts that differs alot from EU3. On the other hand you got a unit management (same "One 3D character displayed in a region") and diplomacy which is quite similar, although the diplomacy part have been a little bit more simplified then EU3.
So far I like it. But I don't have any advice yet, simply because I haven't gotten futher then 5 years yet. ^^
EDIT: I miss the option to customize your starting date.

I was a fan of the HOI series, but even they had a massive amount of bugs. I doubt I'll vest in paradox in the near future.

Paradox and BIS are alike in that regard: Both deliver games smack full of bugs (although I got to say that I've encountered surprisingly few in OA), but both of them also take time to keep patching their games even a couple of years after release, and have a tight bond with their community :)

How is Vic2 compared to the original in terms of sandbox play? I'm more of the EU3-school of randomness and dynamical play than the EU2/Vic1-perspective of historical accuracy. Even though I really, really loved the game mechanics, that's why Vic1 bothered the hell out of me with all these pre-determined events.
Sooo, they've made it more organic or it's still as rigid?
