Hello, its great to be allowed to be here http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Im still waiting for the authorization codes, but theres a few things im wondering...

How much information can we, who have oxygen, give out to public? Like can we tell other people (who do not have access here) what oxygen is like, how it works, screenshots, etc?

And do you, BIS, have any wishes on what we should and what we should not do with the tools?

Just disregard them

I think it was pretty clearly stated in the licensing agreement you signed. Basically, you're not allowed to give any information concerning the tools to the public so for example we don't think it's a good idea to post screenshots from Oxygen or to start discussing the tools on public forums.

We have only one wish concerning your use of the tools: that Operation Flashpoint gamers around the world will have some more great models and units soon.

Well another question then!
It clearly says ModMaker in my group
Won't it kinda give it away to other people on forum?

okay, I understand that so far Maruk. But do you want us to check back with you before releasing new addons??

Because when releasing new models everyone in the community will notice that we have the tools anyway http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So, if I'm right, if we finish a model or unit, we first have to contact you guys, and you will release it as an addon if approved??

Exactly! I think the best way how to tell people you have to tools is to create a model for them. But there's no point in saying: "Look, I have Oxygen and you don't. Look how good I am."

Sure, after releasing your new addon for the game people may guess you probably have Oxygen but what's wrong on it?

What about my question about ModMaker group?
Won't people get suspicious when they see it in forums or is it only visible for the ModMakers?

No, this is not correct. There's no restriction in distributing units created in Oxygen as along as they're available to the community for free. So just release any new units if you want and if you're convinced it's finished and good enough to be released.

I am not sure I undestand what you mean by "ModMakers group". If you mean "Breathe forum section". the answer is pretty easy. It was created at the beginning of April, as you can see by dates of some posts. Did you notice its existence before it was "opened" now and you were given access rights to it?

He means, I think.

Under your name it says: OF developer.
Under ours it says: ModMAker

Another important question -

Are we allowed to release a modified version of an original OFP vehicle model (for example the BMP or M113 model) to the public....? or is that against the rules....?

Up until now people have been doing this but I just wanted to clear this up in case of any problems.

Oxygen doesnt seem to be able to open the OFP models so I guess it doesnt matter :/ I would have very much liked to make things like an hummer with M2, UAZ with PK, etc etc

With OFP models the same rules apply as for any other copyrighted material - you are not allowed to release it in any modified or unmodified form unless the content maker explicitly allows you to do so.

In practice this often means that if you want to release something, you should start your work from the scratch.

Moreover, as someone already told here, Oxygen cannot even open models that are included in OFP.

I have managed to open, edit, save, and use in OFP some of the demo models.

So you meant 'no we cannot release your OFP models'....?

Strictely legal taken (as Suma has shown in his post), you're not allowed to use such content because it's our copyrighted material. But as long as we're happy with it, you don't have anything to worry about (e.g.: look at all the retextured vehicles and modification available already - we're entirely happy with it, but if someone would start to make profit from it, some legal consequences may follow).

OK! But will we ever get a chance to import ODOL format and edit the original OFP moldes?

Beside FileBank (and later Visitor) do you plan to release any other tools or updates for O2 (since its a "light" version)?

We do not have any tools for this and we do not plan to create them (ODOL models are not suitable for editing, as some editing information is not stored in them).

Nothing is planned yet. I would like you to be aware than even O2 LE is in many aspects much better tools than original Objektiv that was used to create most models for OFP. The only important feature missing is animation support.

Do you know of any 3DS converter that makes 3DS files that Oxygen can read? When I use the 3DS export in LightWave, the models will not load in O2 (I get an error saying "Missing KFDATA section").

Have you used any specific converters or have you modeled it all in Max?

Cheers

I can import my 3ds max files with no problems apart from parts being in the wrong place now and then

Airwolf

download a program called deep exploration its a trial version but it can import just about every file in exsistance and then export it into anything, including .3ds my airwolf helicopter has gone under 3 imports and exports to get it to .3ds and it works in oxygen, parts and all.
